Frankly, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the Critical Race Theory curriculum. What is it, where does it come from, and is it legitimate? Has anyone here read it and maybe give a quick summary?

If this has been covered in another thread, then I missed it.

If you ask a person in the year 2000 if the USA would have a POC president they would say NO WAY JOSE. The progress is obvious. However, the progress has been nullified by people that have acquired this new gadget call a dog whistle detector. They generally set it on high sensitivity and all of a sudden racism is everywhere.

Enrollment in the KKK and other such groups went way up after Obama was elected but it's the dog whistles that caused it

We have some posters here and the old PDB that said they had close friends and family and coworkers that they would have sworn on a bible didn't have a racist bone in their body.....until Obama was elected

Wash, rinse and repeat with Trump's emergence, but supercharged. People felt comfortable saying things publicly that they never would have X years ago (they always believed the things, but wouldn't say them)

    Please explain your vituperous response.
I was in high school in 2000. I fully expected we would have a person of color be president in the near future. I'm sure I'm not remotely the only one. You stated that no one in 2000 would believe a person of color could be president, but just 8 years later we elected one?

    Utter bullshirt.

Also, calling out your bullshirt is hardly vituperative. And your "NO WAY, JOSE" in response to a person of color being president could be construed as kinda racist.

But you're from "Latin America" so it's fine I guess.

I am glad you are an optimist. Congratulations!
Your youth is obvious, it is reflected in your language. No big deal.
"No way José" is an idiomatic expression with zero relationship to racism. I am puzzled by that.

Progress doesn't mean there aren't still significant issues of race that permeate across society. And this is only when people like him say the quiet part out loud.

Today in 2021 we still have racism, that is not a revelation. However, every day that goes by racism is less and less. The problem is that we tend to compare the problem to and utopia that will never happen. The old men that still use the N world will eventually die no worries.

If it wasn't directed at you or your race, you don't get to decide that it's no worry.

Only to be replaced by twenty-somethings that say it. I don't think it's receding at the rate most of us perceive. The rise of Trump exposed an ugly side of this country that was largely unseen. I'm not saying CRT is the answer, but I scoff at the GOP making it some kind of legitimate issue in a country that is facing far more serious challenges.

I'm fine with ensuring the realities of slavery, Jim Crow era, and the Civil Rights movements are taught in high school and leaving the deeper stuff to college electives. Heck... there were many on the right that wanted to teach creationism in public schools when there are zero facts to back it up. So I don't see the problem with teaching the factual realities of slavery and the resulting impact.

Also, where do you think he learned it from? An old white man that eventually died. If racism died out as racist people died, why has it persisted for so long? It is a learned behavior that gets passed down through the generations.

    Nope.

Going over many decades this can be true. Certainly better today than in the 50s and 60s… but today is not less racist than 20-25 years ago and that is fact.

    Youth?

I’m 37. I’m a district-level education administrator. I have two degrees, one of which is in English.

And your posts are utter bullshirt.

I was discriminated quite a bit when I came to America as a very young man. In my situation I see less discrimination today, but at the time I lived in an area that was totally different in terms of demographics. I now live in a very blue upscale county where the immigrant types have PhDs and everyone gets along just fine. Those that discriminate tend to be less educated. However, I have seen an improvement in tolerance in that group.

However, you are correct, I do not know what is like to walk in the shoes of someone else.

1964 was only 57 years ago. The old racist men were alive at that time and are still around. I suspect the racist attitudes among millennials and Gen Z are way down. Today in the era of social media everything is massively amplified and hence this has created the sensation that things are worse. In reality the is the most prosperous peaceful time in world history.

I realize that your perception is your reality. I also accept that Trump created hyper nationalism. Furthermore, Trump played the race card to gain votes. But the other side also played the race card. I detest that strategy, it turns my stomach to see how this nation is heading to balkanization.

Even the most conservatives have no issues with the teaching of history as it was. However, they do not want the teachings that say all white people are oppressors. and POC are all victims. That will never go down well with the right.

I believe this is your opinion which is based on your perception of reality.

In the 1960s, almost half of white respondents in the US suggested they would move if a black family moved in next door. But the proportion of Americans reporting to the World Values Survey that they were uncomfortable living next to someone of a different race fell from 8% in the 1980s to 6% today.

Again, in 1958, only 4% of Americans approved of interracial marriage according to Gallup polling. Support only crossed the 50% threshold in 1997. It has now reached 87%.

Although people can lie to surveyors about their beliefs, the polling matches up with behavioral change: in 1980, less than 7% of marriages were between spouses of a different race or ethnicity in the United States. That climbed to 15% by 2010.

There were 6,336 racially or ethnically motivated hate crimes reported by the FBI in 1994—that dropped to 3,310 in 2015.

You are a typical person that lacks ammunition to make a point and hence needs to use acrimonious remarks and insults to make a point. I will ignore your babble. You do not post like a gentleman, that is what I meant by the term youth.

Well, at least in my family, I feel like we've broken that behavior to a large degree. We still have our own blind spots, but racism of any kind isn't tolerated in my house.

My kids are even brag that they're not racist. Not exactly how I taught them, lol. What the lack in racism, they make up for it with a little too much arrogance, lol. But they'll learn...I hope.

I do think there are areas of progress and that relics of old thinking are clearly fading. My grandfather was big into Civil War reenactments and was proud to wave the Confederate flag. But as far as I know, none of my aunts/uncles are doing that sort of thing. Some likely have their prejudices, but it's not near what it was before and their children, and my kids don't really care what you look like, they treat others with respect. So that learned behavior has changed, at least from where I sit.

So...now you're resorting to insulting youths? That's not very gentlemanly.

So it it your age that makes you post contradictory statements, avoid answering questions you don't like and make statements that have 0 basis in reality because there are other here around your age that don't do those type of things?

Or is it something else? Personally, I find your schtick shallow and pedantic to quote the great Peter Griffin.
