I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

What brings down the efficacy is that the J&J vaccine was tested against the South African variant, where the others we not. Not considering that variant, it's over 85% effective.
J&J is a good vaccine. If we step back and say a vaccine works if it protects against severe cases and hospitalization it’s as good as the other two. I would gladly take it, but I’m almost set to get my second dose of Pfizer.

Beyond the racism this is the danger of the states lifting the mask mandates and some businesses still want to have one (as is their right) that removes the cover of saying 'it's the state saying to wear a mask not me, the owner of Joe's Grill'

now it is Joe saying it and people are mad about it

Now why couldn't he urge his supporters to do this while he was in office? I guess later is better than never...

This should go in the media tracker thread. CNN is lying. Trump didn't urge anyone. "Would recommend, but..." is not "urging".

    :hihi:

I cut him some slack for that. That’s probably about as much of an endorsement as he is capable of giving. He has a large anti-vax following that he’s trying not to alienate.

I fully expect to see more of this, and won't be surprise if some of these incidents turn violent
    ===============================

A Texas woman was arrested on Wednesday over refusing to wear a face mask inside a business, just days after video went viral showing her being detained in a similar incident.

Terry Lynn Wright, 65, was arrested by Texas City police just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a statement obtained by ABC 13. She had been asked by employees at an Office Depot to leave unless she put on a facial covering.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) lifted the state's mask mandate earlier this month, but businesses can continue enforcing their own mask requirements.

This is the second time police have been called over Wright's refusal to wear a mask within six days.

She was placed in handcuffs by police inside a Bank of America branch in Galveston on Thursday for not wearing a mask.

"Ma'am, if they ask you to leave, you have to leave," an officer can be heard telling Wright shortly after he approaches her in the bank.

"My money's in this bank, and I'm going to take it out," Wright says.

"Well, then you have to abide by the rules," the officer tells her, adding that "businesses have the right to refuse service, even if you're not wearing a mask.".................

With all the cash apps and ATMs to get cash out of your bank, what's the point of going to the bank? Do people not know they can do most of their transactions electronically these days?

She wasn't there to get her money out though. Clearly she's trying to make a stupid point about mask wearing. Too bad the bank can't just keep her money.

    Some good news

Pretty impressive. Need to stay the course though. Once we get to half of everyone vaccinated, we're gonna start running into populations who intentionally avoid getting the vaccine and/or those too lazy to get out and go get the shot. I suspect that's gonna amount to an awful lot of people.
