Control of the Senate is on the line. Assuming the current numbers will stand on recount, only 1.9% of the vote (90,295 votes) separated Republican incumbent David Perdue from his Democratic challenger, Jon Ossof. The third place Libertarian candidate received 2.3% of the vote (144,566 votes). In the special election, Raphael Warnock led the pack with 32.9% of the vote trailed by incumbent Kelly Loeffler who received 25.9% of the vote. Doug Collins, the other major GOP candidate, finished with 20% of the vote. Various other Democrat candidates finished with a combined 15.5% of the vote. Various other GOP candidates finished with 3.4% and roughly 2% for independent candidates.

Andrew Yang has posted that he will be moving to Georgia to help campaign for Ossof and Warnock.

So Loefler just gave the weirdest speech I have seen from a candidate on an election night.

to paraphrase- “We’re gonna win and I am going to fight until the end.....But I gotta go catch a plane right now so we will be seein ya!”

Yes but where’s the risk? He’s been re-elected for six years. And he can calculate that by fall 2022, people will have forgotten about the coup and fallen back into party politics.
I think that calculation also presumes that Trump's influence is pretty bigly diminished by fall 2022... which seems logical after tonight but honestly who the eff really knows how this plays out?

Because McConnell is a power player - being minority leader ain't dick.

There's going to be a play tomorrow and it's sad and disturbing and contrary to law and the Constitution, but if you're staring minority leader in the face and you know it won't cost you in your own state, why not support the coup? You can always re-configure later.

McConnell is Machiavellian of the highest order.
Unless he's worried about being primaried by a MAGA cuckoo in some future election, I don't understand how these "establishment" politicians think they're successfully ingratiating themselves to MAGAWorld by engaging in these shenanigans.

Cruz, Hawley, Graham, Rubio, etc. don't get it. Trump may be a serial lying sociopathic, incompetent clown, but one thing he isn't is phony. And his supporters love him for that. They despise the rest of them because they are walking epitomes of phony.

She has to be in DC for the electoral college vote.

Trump's probably looking at either fleeing the country or facing criminal charges in at least New York and possibly multiple states. He's either going to fade like a fart or his base is going to be screaming about him being persecuted for the next few years.

It’s like a two hour flight from Atlanta to DC. Her husband is the head of the NYSE and she is a billionaire.
I know she has a vote but she is skipping town - her loss isn’t even in the margin to request a recount. For a white supremacist that’s gotta hurt.

Oh, he is definitely a phony.. he’s been a Manhattan limousine liberal all his life, then switched parties when it suited him.. he claims to be pro-life, but I’d bet my 401k he’s paid for multiple abortions.. his entire existence is phony, ESPECIALLY his net worth... hypocritical and phony.

Tbh, I don't even think she cares. She's got money to burn.

I get most of what you're saying, but I think he's smart enough to see that there's nothing to be gained by trying to support a coup attempt. It's going to fail. He knows that, and I would think he'd calculate that there's no sense in wasting any political capital on that.

He needs to pay a political price for losing the Senate majority imo tho. Time for someone else to lead the party.

A lot of them will say that only happened cuz voter fraud. On internet forums, they'll talk about revolution and civil war, but in the real world voter suppression for future elections will be the name of the game.
Just happened to switch to Fox News and they already talked about it. Mandatory voter ID and no mail-in voting because of course Mexico requires their citizens to vote in person.

Something to watch. Ossoff is currently up 9,500 with a little under 4,400,000 votes in. Assuming a total vote count of up to 4,500,000, he needs to win by about 22,500 to be outside of the margin for a recount.

Now they’re talking about getting Manchin to switch parties.

He will be looking to 2022. He has a chance to be majority leader again.
Any equation involving McConnell and/or Trump in the next 2 or 4 years must consider the fact that first they need to live that long. McConnell is 78 and Trump is 74, both look to be in crappy health.

I'll shed no tears on their passing.

A Republican commentator said on FoxNews that the entire "overturn the election stunt is assinine and is ruining the party (can't find the link now). He went on the further state that the party must focus on what it did wrong, and how it can reset for 2020.

It's going to be fun watching the rats desert the sinking ship over the coming days and weeks.
