Control of the Senate is on the line. Assuming the current numbers will stand on recount, only 1.9% of the vote (90,295 votes) separated Republican incumbent David Perdue from his Democratic challenger, Jon Ossof. The third place Libertarian candidate received 2.3% of the vote (144,566 votes). In the special election, Raphael Warnock led the pack with 32.9% of the vote trailed by incumbent Kelly Loeffler who received 25.9% of the vote. Doug Collins, the other major GOP candidate, finished with 20% of the vote. Various other Democrat candidates finished with a combined 15.5% of the vote. Various other GOP candidates finished with 3.4% and roughly 2% for independent candidates.

Andrew Yang has posted that he will be moving to Georgia to help campaign for Ossof and Warnock.

Yeah, if anything, he runs further away from Trump. The Trump brand is about to crash and burn imo.

I dont know, i kinda see what Chuck is saying- maybe Mitch finds religion, er, Trumpism tomorrow as sort of a last-ditch effort to try and retain power.. Pardon me if i just can’t ever imagine Moscow Mitch doing the right thing, ever.

The blame game is going to be interesting. I imagine Trump will blame Mitch for not passing the checks.

Low bars and all, but he's been against the idea of challenging the validity of the electors and I believe he's already stated Biden won the election.

He's not a dummy and knows Trump will be leaving office on the 19th or 20th regardless. So I don't see him changing just because of today's election. But, who knows, maybe desperation gets him. We'll see tomorrow.

When Trump took office in 2016, Republicans controlled the House and Senate. After one Trump term, the Republicans have lost both. How can Republicans believe that he is good for the overall party?

Probably, but if it remains this close, this thing is gonna be challenged and tied up in the courts for a bit. I suspect it might not be until Friday before a winner is declared.
Plus the tinfoil hat voting fraud conspiracy crowd is going to absolutely eat up a result in which both Democrats win.

Grifts are never about long term sustainability but short term gain. In this case they rolled the dice on Trump and got three SCOTUS Justices and hundreds of lower court seats. He was good for the party even if they could only ride him for one term.

A lot of them will say that only happened cuz voter fraud. On internet forums, they'll talk about revolution and civil war, but in the real world voter suppression for future elections will be the name of the game.

I still believe that almost any Republican would have beaten Hillary. She was a terrible candidate. They could have had the same thing without Trump as President, and they would probably have held the Senate at least, and maybe the House. Trump turns out voters on both sides, but mostly against him.

Republicans reacted too slowly during the 2016 primaries to stop Trump. He became inevitable with so many candidates trying to stick it out for so long. They had no choice but to roll with him. I don't think they anticipated how much of an iron grip he would have on the party though and now they're stuck with him if only to please his rabid base, though that may change with him losing Georgia and both senate seats likely (possibly) flipping too.

How so? Would he suddenly decide to get on board with Trump's coup attempt? If so, I'm not sure how what happened today creates that incentive.

Because McConnell is a power player - being minority leader ain't dick.

There's going to be a play tomorrow and it's sad and disturbing and contrary to law and the Constitution, but if you're staring minority leader in the face and you know it won't cost you in your own state, why not support the coup? You can always re-configure later.

McConnell is Machiavellian of the highest order.

He will be looking to 2022. He has a chance to be majority leader again.
