I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Those saying “open it up! We have to save the economy!” Have no idea what drives the economy or how it actually works.

Industries have been back for months. The best example of this is the amount of people that have gone back to work. Guess what our actual economic collapse is coming in the next 18 months. The first was the reaction to the virus. The second is going to be the reaction to the new world that comes out of it.

the airlines are tanking and it has nothing to do with being locked down- they never were. People simply aren’t flying. Hotels the same. Meetings have gone virtual and they won’t be coming back. The travel industry is going to go through a culling of mass proportions as significantly less business travel will occur. Hope you didn’t like conventions- I don’t know how you could- because they are dead. All of this falls into the “business hospitality” industry. Which is officially dead and will never return in it previous state if at all. There will always be recreational travel and some meetings have to be face to face but the engine of the travel industry was business hospitality. And it is gone forever.

Retail? Dead. In person entertainment? Dead. These are high overhead, low margin industries that have already been replaced by Amazon ( they are already approved for drone delivery by the FAA and hired 240,000 LAST MONTH) and streaming services (Disney has determined to shift their business model to online material vs the parks which I dare say won’t be around for more than 10 years).

Manufacturing? Dead. Well deader than fried chicken now. Assembly plants will be in fashion but JIT manufacturing has been taking hold for a while now and this will just cement it. Pushing more and more raw material production overseas and we will just be putting things together- until that too leaves.

I don’t want to venture a guess as to how many are employed by these dinosaur industries but they won’t be doing them for long. If we don’t rethink our whole economic base and focus on the actual growing industries we are forked four ways from Sunday. I dare say it is too late already

Just pulled out kids from school and put them remote. My wife is a teacher and has no choice. Omaha is spiking bad. We are up 30% week over week and nothing is being done. With Halloween, it’s going to get worse. The kids school had 17 new cases last week. We had maybe 17 cases for the previous 6 weeks.

The broader point still stands. Even so, if a person is going around without using a mask, just acting like the virus doesn’t exist, they are potentially infecting innocent people who are trying to be mindful and responsible.

Of the people I listed that I know, one had zero respiratory symptoms and didn’t realize he had it until he lost his sense of smell. Another had very mild symptoms, one night of fever, nagging headache for a couple of days, felt like he had a slight sinus infection until he lost his sense of smell also.

Technically, losing your sense of smell is a symptom, I suppose, but by the time they had that show up they had most likely been infected for a while. Luckily they both were being careful about exposing others, wearing masks always, and practicing social distancing. They don’t seem to have infected others as far as they can tell.

He has already iced him out of the task force because he doesn't push the insane "herd mentality" approach. I think Fauci may choose to retire if Trump wins. I think a lot of good people will.

I really haven't prepared myself for what another 4 years of Trump would mean. I'm prepared for the polls to be wrong and for Biden to lose the election, but not really gotten ready for anything beyond that. I know it's a possible, but it's just hard to truly fathom how much worse it will get. If he wins, the day after is going to be real bad.

I agree, but four more years of Trump will destabilize our position as the leading economy of the world. Our laws and institutions give us our credit. Without that the dollar is cooked and now our the banks and defense industries take the hit. The true powers won't let that happen.
