I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

They may spread the disease to countless other people, some of those people will get sick and a few will die. This isn’t opinion, this is medical fact.

When people who want to deny that this virus is affecting all of us engage in magical thinking, which is the most charitable way I can explain your thought process, they are actually unknowingly contributing to the illness, financial ruin and death we are currently experiencing.

We have a common enemy in the virus. We should be united in our resolve to defeat the virus. Instead, we have national leadership that has decided it’s really only certain people who are the enemy, rather than the virus. This is not just wrong, it’s ceding control to the virus. It’s allowing the virus free reign, while instead accusing doctors and scientists of being the enemy. It’s ultimately not rational and is the mark of a twisted mind.

I think the most current view is that approx 1 in 5 (20%) are truly asymptomatic.

Last I checked, Louisiana never went into a complete shut down. The closest was New Orleans. Can't have a complete shut down when the governor allowed so many to be considered essential businesses.

I didn't say anything about you or your situation. I'm talking about my area and our situation. I've been going back to work for 5 1/2 months. We have bars, restaurants, hotels, and casinos open. My family vacationed in Florida over the summer. We went to a college football game last weekend. We're planning another the weekend before thanksgiving. I've been on a bunch of weekend trips. Next Sunday I'll be watching football in a sports bar. I've watched every monthly PPV UFC event in sports bars back to July. You are free to shutdown. Lock down your borders. I'm just saying the entire country doesn't need it.

None of that is evidence that we shouldn’t lock down.

Yeah, I was thinking that's why he moved it to the WH. It's obviously not illegal, but good lord, it's a terrible idea. I would say optics, but they don't give a shirt about optics at this point.

It’s another example of why we need to take some of these traditions and norms and codify them. The last 4 years has shown us how vulnerable a government so reliant on respect for traditions and norms actually is.

I go into the office twice a week, and every week I notice more and more closed businesses. The “lock down” ended months ago.

Places are going out of business because of the virus. My office is 95% working remote because people don’t feel safe working in the office because of the virus. As long as it’s a threat overall spending will be depressed, and people spending money is what drives the economy.
