Why are the Republicans doing their convention during the day? Isn't the roll call and nomination normally done at night?

Anybody watching or going to watch in parts?

What are the expectations of the convention for those who support Trump?

    Fact check from night one
    ====================

Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Convention started off with a parade of dishonesty, in stark contrast with last week's Democratic convention. While CNN also watched and fact-checked the Democrats, those four nights combined didn't have the number of misleading and false claims made on the first night of the Republicans' convention.......

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump made a dizzying array of misleading claims about voting fraud and health care Monday as fellow Republicans opened their convention with speeches distorting the agenda of his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Trump falsely asserted that he was the one who ensured that people with preexisting medical problems will be covered by health insurance; actually that was Democratic President Barack Obama.

Several speakers accused Biden of proposing to defund police, ban fracking, take over health care and open borders — none of that true............

Not sure - I think it’s over. His eyes are certainly bloodshot and he’s sweaty. And cocaine is trending on twitter, ha.

But he seems to deliver the speech so who knows.
Could have something to do with this article...

Trump Jr.'s biggest concern appears to be that if his father doesn't win in November, various prosecutors investigating the Trump Organization will be waiting to charge them, the activist told the Times. Trump Jr. also shared with the activist that he does not believe there could be a "peaceful transition" between the Trump and Biden administrations, and they plan to "shoot the prisoners."

That was everything I imagine a Trump rally being.

Moderates will be loving on Tim Scott and his speech.

Guilfoyle is bat shirt crazy. Like damn, TAKE A VALIUM AND STOP YELLING AT ME! Her and junior are perfect for each other.

Disclaimer: I did not watch the whole thing - just bits and pieces.

Nothing surprising... Everyone I know on the right loved it, and touted every word as the unbridled truth... and everyone I know on the left hated it, made light of everyone, and claimed everything was a lie... very similar and the complete predictable opposite of the DNC last week... rinse, wash, repeat....

As for my take on the actual content... I couldn't watch Don Jr (cringy)... Tim Scott, Herschel Walker, Vernon Jones, and Nikki Haley were worth listening to and made their respective point/case... everyone else was "meh"... or "wat"?!?!?

After watching it... I came away wishing Haley was the REP candidate for POTUS. I don't agree with everything she says or all her policies (nor do I for either side)... but she seems sensible and sincere at least (and not a pompous - self absorbed - douche) . Which would be an improvement over anything being presented thus far from either side.

Overall, I thought it had a positive "Rah Rah" feel... about what I expected.

People on the left are calling it all lies because, well, it was. They told more confirmed lies in one night of their convention than the Democrats did over four full nights.

I thought it ranked up there the show Hamilton. I found myself crying in parts, yelling in anger and then weeping with joy. It was a terrific and roller coast ride of emotion.

Just kidding. I watched Longmire on Netflix (fantastic show too). I did see Haley and Hershel's speeches this morning and they were very good. I think Haley has a very bright future. Hershel was fantastic.

Yeah, the word "fact" when used in any political context means nothing to me at this point... and I don't care who checks who (especially CNN, FOX, MSNBC, WAPO, NYT, etc).... these "facts" tend to be more a matter of perception and interpretation - than a matter of verifiable truth.

There is a lot of presumptive reality/facts that are actually partial to all fiction on both sides...

For example - the REPs will say that Biden will Ban Fracking... while he may not have said that specifically... there is a direct correlating assumption that his support of Green New Deal agenda policies ( and overall being a puppet/placeholder for who really controls the DEM party ) would do just that...

This is an issue from both sides... and it's hilarious no one even talks about it.

    Damn. That is disappointing.

    Then the propaganda was successful.

Edit: This is also more evidence that you are not the "middle of the road" guy you say you are. Only one side of the aisle is peddling the lie that facts don't matter or exist, that fact-checking is a hoax, that "alternative facts" are a thing, and that everything that's said politically is open to interpretation.

This is not a both sides problem. As I stated before, you are squarely on one side of this issue.

This is a side question that probably doesn't belong in this thread, but I'm just hoping for a quick response, not really to challenge you on what you think. Who it is that controls the democratic party to you?

I think we can all agree that it's Trump and the republican base that control the republican party. On the Dem side, it depends on who you ask. Progressive tend to think it Wall Street in conjunction with neo-liberals. Minorities think it white-upper class liberals who harbor underlying racist sentiments. Republicans claim in the progressive wing, AOC and the squad. Many dems feel it's the party hierarchy, political power brokers and the special interest. The white supremacist in the country think it's minorities. The Q and other conspiracy theorist think it's George Soros and other powerful Jews. Many say it's the media, etc.

Again, I'm not trying to challenge you, just curious where you fall because I hear this a lot, but the answer is always different depending on who you ask.

    Then the propaganda was successful.

The propaganda is only successful when you buy what they are selling... both sides are selling half truths, and perspective-based lies as fact - to their collective bases in order to farm votes, perpetuate false narratives, and ultimately retain/gain power...

I don't buy either brand... I am pointing out the ridiculousness of the propaganda - on both sides - that's sole purpose is to "sound byte" any information out of context (or purposefully omit contextual information) in order to spin any story into "political truth"... which... isn't truth at all.

I'm not buying any of it... I'm not sure why anyone does, unless they actually like being lied to and duped.

I watched Haley, based on the general reception, and I thought it was a total mess. The comportment might have been different, the tenor might have been more civilized than others, but the actual content was nowhere I would hope actual opposition in a party might be. She's a typical 'politician' in that regard. Blech. No thanks.

I watched Don Jr and Guilfoyle because of the reception as well, though for different reasons. And both were circus routines. People were talking about Don Jr as a candidate in 2024 or beyond and I just can't see it after that.

I don't like Trump, but the dude is charismatic and can get people to pretty much believe anything he says. He plays in the mud masterfully.

I don't see any assets that Jr has that makes him a viable candidate. He's not a natural 'showman' (in a charismatic Christian prosperity preacher sorta way) in the same way his father is.

I used to be a political convention junkie - loved them. I am confident I have watched, at least once, every part of every political convention on film up until 2008 or at least 2012.
But they have become meaningless. There is less substance to them than even Presidential debates, which are very very thin on substance. The substantive parts of a convention have been gone for at least a generation, and even before that the substance started getting light - little to no disagreement on platform, on leadership, on party structure, etc. And probably any real or potential substantive fight is done behind closed doors and kept as secret as possible.
And even personality drama is largely absent given that the nominee wants the production to be as smooth as possible and showing great unity.
I didn't watch the RNC in 2016 although I sort of followed it via written reports and the fact that there was no drama from people being opposed to Trump or to aspects of Trump just shows that the conventions are largely meaningless.
I am not criticizing people for watching these things: obviously they have some importance as showcases for the party, for the nominee, and potential "stars" but they really annoy me now that they are essentially big ads for the nominees and the party in general.
