Forget the fact they control the Supreme Court, most state governments, the House of Representatives, and they make up a sizable chunk of the electorate there are other reasons Conservative Republicans will be fine even with Trump and MAGA.

They know how to get beyond their base to reach Moderate Independents. These voters are open to persuasion and messaging so the Republicans go after them on wedge issues like urban crime, healthcare reform portrayed as socialized medicine, and reducing LGBTQ Rights issues to bathrooms for transgender youth.

Secondly, the Democratic base is often divided and demoralized. They often stay home saying it doesn't matter. Even worse they say there's no difference between the two parties. If Bernie Sanders had managed to get the Democratic nomination in 2020 Moderates Democrats would have stayed home. And in 2016 more than a few supporters of Bernie stayed home rather than voting for Hillary Clinton.

Lastly, MAGA and Conservatives opposed to Trump are still Rightwing. Whatever their differences over Trump these two will always come together against Democrats.

The Republicans only appear dysfunctional and divided. But there's a method to thei madness. Everything is just fine for them.

Biden beat Trump by 9 points on independent vote in 2020 - and that was before Trump led an insurrection, absconded with boxes of classified material, was found liable for sexual assault, and arraigned four different times on 91 felony charges.

Given the state of the economy, there is very little reason to think Trump will improve his showing on independents.

In the 2022 midterms, on the whole, democrats outperformed GOP candidates in the independent vote by 13 percent! This idea that there is latent support for GOP governing among “moderate independents” is not borne out by analysis.

And I think the problem is that independents were typically keen to support Republican efforts on issues like tax, regulation, and foreign policy. But today’s GOP is far more focused on culture war, manufactured grievance, and has inextricably married itself to a reprehensible leader. Republicans don’t even bother with general governance/ policy anymore - whether in Washington or in the state houses, they’re too busy making performative gestures about woke and retribution. All while riding this new wave of anti-intellectualism and anti-institutionalism.

That is not appealing to independents. It’s not governance.

If Independents ever hold the Republican Right accountable for threatening shutdowns, hearings that are more like show trials, and impeachments that are just posturing the GOP is in trouble and rightly so.

I think the data show that’s been happening. And likely will continue to happen in elections where independents matter - which means national elections and in districts not dominated by the GOP.

Independent share of voters has grown substantially over the past 20 years and and is now almost equal to party affiliated voters. I think it’s about 60/40 party to independent, but that means I’s outnumber either party.

I think NY is in the process of banning gas stoves.
People, incorrectly I might add, think "what is the harm?"
well gas stoves are a health hazard + contribute to climate change.

"The Environmental Protection Agency regulates outdoor NO2 emissions, setting standards for their safe exposure limit. But there are no similar standards for indoor exposure. Nevertheless, studies dating back decades have shown harmful effects from the NO2 in gas cooking stoves."

"It is also well-established that the health effects of pollution disproportionately hit vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, as well as low-income households and communities of color. Affirming a 1992 summary study on childhood respiratory illnesses, a 2013 peer-reviewed summary report in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that children living in a home with a gas stove have a 42 percent increased risk of experiencing asthma symptoms.

Emerging research also shows that the gas delivered to stoves contains air toxins and chemicals such as benzene, a known carcinogen with no safe exposure level."

Sure, maybe(?) not as bad as diesel engine smog or whatever, but only people who have this libertarian "I want to be allowed to do whatever I want without the gov't interfering' shirt is how/why we got here in the first place. Because left to their own decisions, they can't behave.
I'm sure a lot of people moaned and complained about seat belts.
I'm old enough to remember smoking and non-smoking sections in restaurants - I bet these same people would moan and complain about that being taken away from them as well.
Or complaining about incandescent bulbs no longer being sold
or toilets that use less water (but according to one person, you must then flush 3,4,5 TIMES!!)

and on, and on, and on it goes
Induction as a technology rocks. In practical application it bites arse. My Samsung will boil a pot of water in a blink. Provided it doesn't randomly shut off because a stray drop of water landed on the controls. They also warp your pans unless you're super careful about warming them gradually. Which defeats some of the purpose.
Gas is the superior cooking method right now.

If Dems really wanted to accomplish something, they'd go after the top 100 polluting companies and then take a look at Ma and Pa gas-cookers.

I can't disagree with this, but I think some is unavoidable (unless more people become vegetarians) - isn't it something like cattle is one of the largest producers of methane gas in the world? But about the whole gas stove thing, I think is more to do with indoor (unregulated, I think) carcinogens they produce vs climate change. https://news.stanford.edu/2023/06/16/cooking-gas-stoves-emits-benzene-2/

"A new Stanford-led analysis finds that a single gas cooktop burner on high or a gas oven set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit can raise indoor levels of the carcinogen benzene above those in secondhand tobacco smoke. Benzene also drifts throughout a home and lingers for hours in home air, according to the paper published June 15 in Environmental Science & Technology."

Living in a country that went 95% induction more than 20 years ago I cant recognize this. Yes we bought some new pans and pots over the year, made specifically for induction. But we havent had house fire caused by leaking gas in Denmark for years and no leaking gas deaths either. And shutting down due to stray drops of water - well after +10 years I have never experienced that either.

Really? What kind of controls does yours have? Because mine, I swear on my children's lives, will shut down or change power on a whim if water or oil gets on it. I have the one pictured below and I'd love it if the controls weren't so janky. As it is, it takes up a huge amount of countertop real estate and I can't afford to put anything on it for fear it'll randomly turn on and begin cooking something.

The technology, again, is great. Efficient, FAST and super hot. This thing sears like a dream. It's the implementation that sucks balls. I loathe these controls. Hatehatehatehate and despise them. Give me analog dials, please. What's wrong with a damn dial?

Well for one thing the controlls are on a separate panel next to the actual cooking surface so there is no chance of water or oil getting on them. Having the controlls like in your picture is really weird and a really bad design, Another thing is a master off switch to ensure pets or children does not accidentially turn anything on

Maybe samsung went for the cool-ness factor. IT looks really futuristic and cool... maybe form over function?

    Absolutely.

I picked this particular model because it has the rectangular "dual zone" on the left that fits a griddle perfectly.

None of the other models I looked at had analog controls. They were all touch based. Some in a line along one side, some in the middle.

And unfortunately more expensive to repair/replace vs analog. I've seen similar controls, integrated into the door of microwaves vs on the side of the door. So if something goes wrong, you have to get an completely new door - which can sometimes cost as much as a new microwave. Sometimes I wonder if these designs are intentional (planned obsolescence?)

I got a Bosch induction stove. Controls are in a slanted front panel, so no spills can reach them. Haven’t seen any issues with pans warping, even when I crank it up. But it also isn’t a super fast heat, although much much better than the regular electric I replaced. Maybe they have fixed the warping by slowing the heat down somewhat?

for sure. ours has two burners giving errors. its only 2.5 years old and we thought it would cost around 400.00 with labor to fix only to find it would be more like 1200.00 since the stove cost 1299.00 it was not practical.

    Maybe so.

With mine, if I use the cheap 99 Ranch stainless pans it'll warp them so hard and fast they go *bang* the first few times I use them.

Idk. I got a pretty cheap set of pans, since all of my previous pans wouldn’t work except for the 2 cast iron ones. 400 for the set. They were Green Pan.
