This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

    Not until he does, anyway.

We've seen time and again, Ron DeSantis wasted millions proving it to the world, that nobody riles these deplorables up like Trump. Nobody.

    Exit Trump, exit MAGA.

There is Trump and then there's Trumpism

I don't think Trumpism will go away when Trump does. Someone will rise to take up that mantle. We (and they) thought it was DeSantis but it clearly and hilariously was not

But it will be someone. That someone may not appear for years but there will a Trump 2.0, hell if he's learned some lessons, and people skills it may be DeSantis in 2028 (doubt it though)

It's like losing your long term franchise QB.

Sometimes you get lucky and go from Joe Montana to Steve Young or Favre to Rodgers

But more often than not there's a gap, and sometimes a long one

I think a good analogy might be Huey Long. A lot of people rode his coat tails to office after he died, but none of them ever threatened to build a movement or following like he did.

An interesting question is what happens to Trump if he loses AGAIN to Joe Biden in November. The Republican Party can't afford any more of that kind of "winning" if they plan on staying relevant.

We've had an obstructionist GOP with only one economic play in their playbook (tax cuts for the rich!) for decades. The thing Trump brings is the ability, inscrutable as it is, to get otherwise reasonable, proud people to lick his damn shoes anytime he says so.

That's the secret sauce to Trumpism and without Trump it's not going to be the same. Nor nearly as dangerous.

The next Trump is going to have a decade or more of demographic change to battle. He's maybe, just maybe, going to have the death-rattling remnants of GOP power to wield. But the gerrymandering and voter suppression can only go so far. Eventually it just gets overwhelmed.

Then again, the Dems show no signs of learning how to use power when they have it, so the door is open for the right charismatic scumbag to reassemble MAGA in some hideously futuristic form.

On Tuesday this week, US House Republications submitted a resolution of disapproval that would use Congressional Review Act authority to kill the anti-discrimination rules. "Under the guise of 'equity,' the Biden administration is attempting to radically expand the federal government's control of all Internet services and infrastructure," lead sponsor Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) said.

Clyde alleged that the "FCC's so-called 'digital discrimination' rule hands bureaucrats unmitigated regulatory authority that will undoubtedly impede innovation, burden consumers, and generate censorship concerns," and that it is an "unconstitutional power grab."

I agree, unfortunately I think there is another Trump type out there that they will prop up, I just hope it's later rather than sooner.....there are way too many folks in this country that want to drag us back to the dark ages....

That will just open up another seat for a trump acolyte. These, so called, "moderate" Republicans have surrendered the GOP to extremist and have put the country on a path of self destruction.

I found the motivation. He was not running again regardless, but wanted to disadvantage Boebert.

Why is it that Republicans get their way whether they're in power or not while Dems can't do squat no matter what?

They've already been working in the shadows and unlike Trump, they really are billionaires and they are very much Christian Nationalists.

Trump wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the shadow efforts of propaganda and influence of Dunn and Wilks in Texas:

Trump probably doesn't win in 2016 without the Mercers money and data mining support:

Trump did Leonard Leo's bidding to stack the Supreme Court with Christian Nationalists, specifically Catholics, as did both Bush presidents. Leo's been working on this long before Trump ever considered himself a Republican or conservative.

Trump sowed the crops planted by these and many other billionaires who do the real work of waging war against our democracy. Their propaganda, misinformation and manipulation efforts brainwashed the cult that follows Trump. They can and will use that same apparatus to brainwash the cult into following a new leader when Trump outlives his usefulness.

Trump gets way too much credit for Trump happening. He's the giant, imposing head of the Wizard, but the people really pulling the mechanisms of corruption and authoritarianism behind the curtain are the people above and others, including foreign adversaries. Trump wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the financial and propganda support of these people.

Remember that Trump had faded into oblivion as a failed businessman, until a lot of money from Russian oligarchs propped up Trump Organization and Trump started plastering his name all over New York which lead to Burnett choosing him for The Apprentice which is what made Trump a celebrity again. Trump is not a self-made cult leader, he was a chosen cult leader. People can deny it all they want, but authoritarian billionaires in Russia, the US and likely other countries chose and groomed Trump, and they continue to prop him up from the shadows.
