Thought we should start thread here - over weekend, US carried out strikes against Houthi elements in Yemen in retaliation for their actions in Red Sea.

This morning Trump took to Truth Social:



So any missile/shot fired from Houthi elements in Yemen will be considered coming from Iran. Obviously this is wrought with problems, but we know Houthis will respond and continue attacks.

So then what does this mean for Iran? Lots to unpack, but seems to me that the NO WAR POTUS is hell bent on getting into yet ANOTHER conflict in the ME. He is backing himself into a corner with statements and we could find ourselves embroiled in ME conflict again.

He starts a war with a nation with posible nuclear weapons and then pat himself on the back for stopping it - despite Iran publicly saying no such deal was made. What kind of universe is he living in? He is acting like Hitler during the final months ordering non-existing armies around and claiming non existing "victories".

Like Iran would agree to allowing Israel to keep attacking them for an hour after they cease fire. Trump, as usual, bit off way more than he can chew. So has Netanyahu in my opinion. I think he mistakenly thought he could fool Trump into the US fighting the ground war on Israel's behalf.

President Trump said Israel and Iran had agreed to a cease-fire that he said could lead to the end of the war between the countries.

"It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL."

Israel’s military referred questions about the cease-fire announced by Trump “to the political echelon.”

The Iranian mission to the United Nations didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s announcement.

I'm thinking they are saying Iran agreed to a ceasefire that they haven't. Then when Iran responds to another Israeli attack, they will claim Iran broke the cease fire agreement as justification for a ground invasion of Iran.

I just don’t think that’s on the table - Iran is a big country. Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth and his merry band of TV personalities don’t have what it takes for that and they know it. Even under the best of circumstances it would be a massive undertaking.

Then he says both sides will remain peaceful during each other’s ceasefire. What. The. Hell.

And they said Biden had dementia, which he didn’t, but this makes zero sense. Ceasefires aren’t carried out unilaterally.

Does anyone care to interpret this nonsense?

I agree that's the smart way to go and I very much hope it goes that way. I hope that I'm overestimating Trump's and Netanyahu's hubris and will be absolutely delighted to be completely and utterly mistaken.
