Thought we should start thread here - over weekend, US carried out strikes against Houthi elements in Yemen in retaliation for their actions in Red Sea.

Houthi leader issued this statement- no US ships in Red Sea

Houthis then attempted to strike US Carrier group

This morning Trump took to Truth Social:

So any missile/shot fired from Houthi elements in Yemen will be considered coming from Iran. Obviously this is wrought with problems, but we know Houthis will respond and continue attacks.

So then what does this mean for Iran? Lots to unpack, but seems to me that the NO WAR POTUS is hell bent on getting into yet ANOTHER conflict in the ME. He is backing himself into a corner with statements and we could find ourselves embroiled in ME conflict again.

The Middle East Power Paradox: How the Iran War Will Transform America’s Military Role

“Epic Fury also put a stark spotlight on the immense material demands of modern warfare-and the United States’ unreadiness to fight for a sustained period. That the economics of war is changing had already been illuminated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent protracted war. High-end air defense systems and cutting-edge munitions are financially and operationally unsustainable against low-cost, long-term drone attacks. The Pentagon’s current inventories enabled it to overmatch Iran during Epic Fury. But it did so at a cost to other theaters and priorities. Washington expended an extraordinary amount of munitions striking targets within Iran itself: as the defense strategist Mackenzie Eaglen has pointed out, the U.S. military fired more than 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles in a few weeks-but it can only produce 90 to 100 per year. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, to counter Iranian missile fire, the United States expended at least 190 THAAD interceptors and 1,060 Patriot interceptors between February 28 and April 8 alone. Those figures represented around 53 percent and 46 percent of the United States’ prewar inventories, respectively. At the rates that it can replenish these interceptors, the United States could not counter air threats in multiple theaters if it needed to.”

This mess will impact the country for multiple years.
I have no problem with war becoming too expensive to wage. I know that's an oversimplification of what's being said, but I do hope that's what ends up happening.

On Thursday, trump announced that the US would remove Syria from a list of designated state sponsors of terrorism – on top of lifting sanctions last year – after meeting Mr Sharaa on the sidelines of the Nato summit in Turkey.

[in theory] The deal will help pave the way for American businesses to invest in Syria, which the US government has encouraged by issuing an investor guide with specific guidance for the oil, gas, electricity and banking sectors.

[in theory] a pipeline through Syria could be a way to bypass the Strait of Hormuz....

I’m extremely skeptical of this. Why would Iran want to kill Trump? He’s giving them so much - more than any other US president.

Tbh, tactically speaking...it isnt a bad idea for an enemy of this country to take him out. Think of the internal fall out of a Trump assasination especially if they make it look like....one of us did it. You want "Death to America"? Do something that'll cause it to tear itself apart...I mean it already is....but that'll pour gasoline on the embers

It'd be just another chokepoint, though. Even more vulnerable to hostile action.

Huh. Just had a thought. If ending Iran's nuclear program was really the true goal, it'd be a great use case for RFGs. Virtually any static target can be waxed from space without using nukes and getting an RFG platform up there is something only a very few nations could do.

Sounds like there will be an Iranian assassination attempt in the near future

I’m sure he’s thinking ‘support for the war shoots up to 90%’
===============

Donald Trump has revealed that he’s “left instructions” in case he’s assassinated with dire consequences for Iran.

“I’ve been on their list for a long time”, the US president told the New York Post. “I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before”………

Yeah, no.

I doubt there is an attempt. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Trump wants to keep things riled up.
