Thought we should start thread here - over weekend, US carried out strikes against Houthi elements in Yemen in retaliation for their actions in Red Sea.

This morning Trump took to Truth Social:



So any missile/shot fired from Houthi elements in Yemen will be considered coming from Iran. Obviously this is wrought with problems, but we know Houthis will respond and continue attacks.

So then what does this mean for Iran? Lots to unpack, but seems to me that the NO WAR POTUS is hell bent on getting into yet ANOTHER conflict in the ME. He is backing himself into a corner with statements and we could find ourselves embroiled in ME conflict again.

My take is Vance is trying to convince us the US Government is not putting a plan into action that has the goal of taking out the Supreme Leader. Whereas the Trump statement is him giving his opinion that if the current Iranian regime continues to make its country suffer, then likely the people of Iran will bring about change from within. So imo it is not a contradiction.

Of course you don't. Your takes always give benefit of the doubt and cover to Trump and the Republicans.

My take is Vance is trying to convince us the US Government is not putting a plan into action that has the goal of taking out the Supreme Leader. Whereas the Trump statement is him giving his opinion that if the current Iranian regime continues to make its country suffer, then likely the people of Iran will bring about change from within. So imo it is not a contradiction. Yet I am skeptical that Vance is sincere. We might say one thing and do another.

One strike doesn’t actually worry me - what does worry me are 2 things:

Real danger of a terrorist strike similar to OKC or 911

Trump will get favorable feedback and start thinking bombing things is the answer to his popularity issues.

Conventional wisdom is that if there is a strike (god forbid) it’s rally around the leader time and approval ratings in the 80s or higher

But is there a chance that the opposite happens and all blame is laid at Trump’s feet?

I think any terrorist strike will be seen by the majority as all Trump's fault and/or a false flag by Trump to seize power. I don't think Trump gets the benefit of doubt or support that most presidents get. Hell, even a lot of his MAGA supporters are turning on him just for making the strike.

It just keeps getting worse. We don't even know where Iran's uranium is, because they moved it and equipment away before the bombing. This isn't 3D chess by the Trump administration. If they knew where it was, they would have bombed there in the first strike. Iranian nuclear bombs are dirty bombs are coming soon to a city or cities somewhere.
