The woman keeps claiming there are US biolabs in Ukraine. A contention that is moronic on its face. She has zero credibility with this guy who also considers himself in the middle of the political spectrum. Gabard is not a moderate. She really doesn't have any firm convictions in any direction. She is simply trying to feather her nest to grift to a certain section of this country.

As mentioned above, Putin is the only person who holds blame in this situation. And to argue the world must capitulate to him is lunacy. What if he wanted to annex Poland next?

Poland is a NATO country, if I’m not mistaken. Russia seems to be having a really difficult time taking Ukraine, so they can’t be feeling very ambitious. Honestly, the desperation that fosters is the largest concern for me. They’ve been positioned entirely in “can’t lose no matter what” and the might start chucking nuclear hail Mary’s.

The JRE audience is exactly who Tulsi is trying to appeal to. She's been molding herself to appeal to that crowd since at least 2015.

It's not hard at all to say things that excite a specific group of people. Especially if you don't really believe in anything.

Well, if nuclear war happens there's basically nothing you can do unless you have a spare million or so dollars to build yourself a long-term shelter with supplies. Might as well not sweat it. Ideally someone close enough to Putin will kill him before he's allowed to launch WW3. Also, I'm sure there are a few steps that have to happen before a nuclear launch even in Russia. I doubt Putin has a magic button that allows him to unilaterally do it himself.

That’s a complete misrepresentation of anything I said. I don’t even understand how you arrived at such a conclusion after asking a pretty simple question. In fact, I haven’t used the term “escalate” once in this thread. What I would like is de-escalation opposed to posturing. I think that’s been pretty clear.

If it would help, I heard some US administration person say that there are various channels of communication between US military and Russian military to prevent panic decisions. I’ll bet Tulsi is even aware of them. It helps her visibility to fear monger though.

The US has communicated with Russia what our response would be if they use a tactical bomb in Ukraine. They wouldn’t like it. I’m not overly concerned at this point.

Gabbard or any other politician is entitled to make statements that do not arbitrarily mesh with other members or even the majority of their party. Which is actually irrelevant. She hasn’t really been interested in being a member of the Democratic Party for a long time. Her staged leaving is best described as “meh”.

Western countries know the tell-tale signs because, after the cold war, they worked for decades with Russia to improve the safety of its nuclear arsenal under the Co-operative Threat Reduction (CTR) programme. Some of Russia’s specialist equipment and procedures were designed with the help of Western experts.

William Moon, a veteran of the CTR, says a large movement of warheads would be almost certain to be spotted. But, for a limited tactical demonstration, Russia could try to slip out one or two warheads concealed in ordinary lorries. Detecting a move like this would be “a coin-flip” he says.

Pavel Podvig of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, a think-tank in Geneva, notes that once mounted on mobile missile-launchers and hidden in forests, tactical nukes would be hard to find. But, he adds, “Russia will not know whether it is being watched. It will never have certainty.”

In any case, argues James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment, another think-tank, hiding the movement of warheads would be against Russia’s purpose: “Putin would want us to know he is preparing for nuclear use. He would much prefer to threaten to use nuclear weapons and extract concessions than actually use them.”
