The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

They don't know what he really believes. He lies every time he talks about anything. He's a showman.

I don't think he believes half the stuff he says. You have someone who has to be the center of attention, has no problems lying, and gets a room full of applause when he says the word "wall" in front of a group. The adulation is what he cares about, not the message.

i read a psychological description of a grandiose narcissist yesterday, not sure if I could find it again or not. I’m not even 100% sure grandiose was the term she used, but she meant the specific narcissist who thinks he knows more than anybody in the world about everything and has absolutely zero of what we call a conscience. I think some call them malignant narcissists. Anyway, it fits Trump exactly.

according to her, it’s not that he is plotting this grand scheme of lies in order to get an objective, it’s that he cannot grasp that he lost. People were asking ”does he believe what he is saying, or is he lying” and she said both. He can never believe he lost the election, he’s incapable of having that thought. He truly believes at some level that there just had to be massive fraud, because he is the winner. And he will just tell crazy lies, biding his time until the fraud comes to light, and then he will be redeemed.

It’s delusional, of course, and the truly scary thing is that if there were a civil war over it, and millions of people died, he would not lose any sleep. It just wouldn’t matter to him, and it wouldn’t occur to him that he should care about it, as long as he gets what he wants.

I agree with all of this. I call it sticking it to the left, but fundamentally it's a belief of a large swath of Americans that in the pursuit of diversity and inclusion they have been left behind in their own country. They don't feel like anyone is listening to them. They have a grievance against "the establishment", which in their mind is the left, and Trump is the agent of that animus.

It makes them vulnerable to crazy messaging, and a crazy messenger, if it/he is saying what they want to hear.

More from CNN...looks like this was going on over the summer. The big question for me is whether a pardon was granted or not. Was this just one side scheming unsuccessfully, or were there actual negotiations?

It's a pretty short name on the redacted court filing. Seems short enough to be Flynn. Could be any number of people though.

Plus Flynn wouldn’t have to pay for his pardon, Trump had his own reasons to pardon Flynn (IMO).

Anywho...raise your hand if you think Barr spent two hours at the White House yesterday only for a previously scheduled appointment with Meadows that took place right after it was revealed to the media that the DOJ investigated and didn't find any election fraud but didn't even speak to Trump himself. So to our lawyer friends (Superchuck & DaveXA and others).... accepting a pardon doesn't officially mean you are guilty of something (or does it) but you do lose the 5th amendment protection. What happens if they still refuse to answer questions? Does it become obstruction of justice?

This was being talked about this morning on some cable news network and an attorney said that accepting a pardon does equal an admission of guilt. Specifically referring to Flynn's pardon, even as broad as it is, they mentioned that it doesn't prevent him from being subpoenaed and forced to testify against others even if he can't be charged himself. I'm not a lawyer and wasn't paying very close attention but that's what I gleaned from the discussion. I would also appreciate further insight and correction on my interpretation if I got it wrong from the lawyers on here.
