Closing FEMA would disproportionately hurt the very states that have historically shown strong support for him, such as Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia. These states are among the most vulnerable to natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, and severe storms, and they rely heavily on FEMA for disaster relief and recovery.
Without FEMA’s resources, these states would face immense challenges in responding to and recovering from disasters, leaving their residents—many of whom already face economic hardships—in even more precarious situations. Ironically, dismantling FEMA would undermine the well-being of the communities that have been some of his staunchest supporters.
Huge tax cuts to his donors and himself is all that matters to him. He really don't care about regular peopleIt's pure idiocy. States don't have the financial capability to do it - and a state left in longterm ruin from a financial disaster is terrible for the economy, spills over into all sorts of other issues that become regional if not national.
And what for? To give tax cuts? It's just so stupid.
It's just so stupid.
The inanity makes my brain cells hurt.
Hey everyone with flood insurance with NFIP ( National Flood Insurance Program ) guess what happens if FEMA is gone?
For those who dont know, the NFIP is funded thru FEMA. Now, premiums pay claims, but if there is a massive flood disaster and the claims exceed premium in, FEMA can have Congress allocate the excess to pay claims. FEMA backing gives NFIP "gold status" for mortgage loans that require flood insurance.
If FEMA goes, so does NFIP and now you would be looking at private insurers to cover flood, aaaaand their pricing, depending on location, could be detrimental.
That's the very 1st thing that popped in my mind..."good bye flood insurance!"The inanity makes my brain cells hurt.

That's the thing - while FEMA itself doesn't have an organic statute and could theoretically be eliminated, the programs FEMA administers (e.g. NFIP, Stafford Act, Post-Katrina Emergency Reform Act, etc.) are statutory. Trump could end FEMA, but he can't cancel those disaster programs.
Of course, Congress could also simply stop funding them but it's hard to imagine that happening.
It’s not all THAT hard. The House would do it.Of course, Congress could also simply stop funding them but it's hard to imagine that happening.

I sure hope you are right. But when I see the Speaker giving an interview where he says he would withhold FEMA money from CA for the wildfires unless he gets concessions from the Dem Gov of the state, I feel like the entire GOP is on board with this nonsense.I don’t know if the House would do it. shirt gets real when they start to fear being voted out - GOP has a 3-vote majority. I don’t think they’re committed to destroying the federal government like Trump thinks they are. We’ll find out I suppose.
