Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

The prime minister said today that they do NOT want to be Danes and do NOT want to be Americans. They want independence. He knows the only way to independence is through TRUMP!

Trump is the fox offering Greenland a ride across the river. He will promise not to eat them, and when he does eat them he will shrug and say “what did you expect”?

Under Trump America will not be trusted by any other nations, and they shouldn’t be. We will have an immoral corrupt man in charge.

Anyone who trusts anything Trump says deserves what they get.

    This part alone is terrifying.

    1. Putin and Xi. Trump is assisting Putin and Xi, making present Russian wars easier and future Chinese wars more likely. The international legal order is based upon the notion that states are sovereign and borders are inviolable. To be sure, these principles have been ignored in the past. But hypocrisy is a very different thing than nihilism. By advocating a violent American empire, Trump is saying that there is no international legal order. Worse still: he and the people around him are repeating arguments that Putin has made for more than a decade: borders are not real; people on the other side of borders want to be ruled by us; the law does not apply to big powers. It is objectively the case that this makes Russian and Chinese imperialism easier. Trump is removing the arguments, supported by most of the world, against a Russian invasion of Ukraine or a future Chinese invasion of Taiwan. The reactions of Moscow and Beijing make it very clear that Russian and Chinese leaders understand the work that Trump is doing for them. The only question here is whether Trump is knowingly or unknowingly doing comms work for Putin and Xi. In my view, he knows exactly what he is doing. He is enacting a policy of fighting with friends and enabling enemies.

A group of Greenlanders who attended a lunch hosted by Donald Trump Jr wearing Make America Great Again caps were not dedicated supporters of the US president-elect but homeless people enticed by the prospect of free food, it has been claimed.

Trump Jr visited the Greenlandic capital, Nuuk, last week, shortly after his father declared it was an “absolute necessity” for the US to take control of the semi-autonomous Danish territory.

During his visit, Trump Jr went to the Hotel Hans Egede for lunch with a group of people wearing Maga hats and put his father on speakerphone. The president-elect told them: “We’re going to treat you well.”

But Jørgen Bay-Kastrup, the hotel’s chief executive, said many of his guests were not Trump supporters but people his team had met on the street who found out only later who Trump Jr was.

Describing many of the group as homeless people, he said Trump Jr “had just met them in the street and invited them for lunch, or his staff did. But I don’t think they knew who they were inviting”.

“That of course was a little bit strange to us because we saw guests that we have never seen in our hotel before – and will probably never see again because it’s out of their economical means.”

The group of about 15 people ate a traditional Greenlandic lunch including fish and caribou. They were not, Bay-Kastrup added, Trump supporters. “They were just, ‘hey, somebody invited us for lunch, let’s go and join him’. I think they found out later who it was.”

A spokesperson for Trump Jr denied the claims, describing them as “beyond the pale ridiculous”.…….

Since Trump Jr’s visit, people dressed in Maga caps and American flags have reportedly been distributing $100 bills and filming it outside the supermarket opposite.

One man, Jacob Nordstrøm, was quoted in the Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq as saying his son, 11, had come home with a $100 bill. He told the paper, which described those handing out the money as Canadian-American influencers: “It’s really borderline shocking to find out that my 11-year-old son has received money from an adult he doesn’t know.”…….

Typical Trumpers. Everything is fake with them

Exactly. As the article mentioned, we actually lost more soldiers per capita in Afghanistan than the U.S., fighting in a war they led. The impression here is definitely that Trump is an unpredictable madman—not unlike others in history. The fact that there’s no one sane enough to tell him “no” only makes things worse.

He’s like a 5-year-old demanding ice cream, throwing a tantrum until he gets his way—except he’s also the leader of one of the world’s most powerful military forces. The whole world is going to pay the price for that election, and the U.S. most of all.

Few items of clothing have come to exemplify American far-right nationalism in the 21st century as much as the red “Make America Great Again” hats worn and sold by Donald Trump. But this week, the beloved – and reviled – headwear appeared to have met its match.

Before a high-stakes meeting with Canadian leaders in preparation for American tariffs, the Ontario premier, Doug Ford, strode into the summit wearing a hat emblazoned with a defiant message: “CANADA IS NOT FOR SALE”.

Canadian leaders are still scrambling to come up with a response to the threat of a trade war with the country’s closest ally if Trump makes good on his promise to inflict punishing tariffs on all Canadian goods and services.

And in the depths of a national crisis, the novelty hat has emerged as an unlikely expression of unity.

For the hat’s creators, “it’s been a wild and surreal few days”.

Liam Mooney, who runs a design firm in Ottawa with his fiancee Emma Cochrane, said the hat came about as a direct rebuttal to a viral Fox news segment in which the host Jesse Watters taunted Ford about Trump’s threat to annex Canada.

“If I were a citizen of another country and I was a neighbour of the United States, I would consider it a privilege to be taken over by the United States of America,” Watters told the Ontario leader.

Mooney and Cochrane were “shocked” at the hostile interview and spent the next few hours coming up with the “creative rebuttal” to the Trumpian threats.

The result was a cap with a Canadian-designed typeface and a simple but firm message. “It was a small act of patriotism to respond to these big threats and this big bluster,” said Mooney.……

President Donald Trump’s allies on Capitol Hill are working to translate his recent complaints about the Panama Canal into legislative action.

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri), an early supporter of Trump’s musings about seizing the strategic waterway, on Thursday introduced a resolution “calling on the Government of Panama” to cut its political and economic ties with China and Chinese businesses.

The nonbinding resolution, co-sponsored by Republican Sens. Tom Cotton (Arkansas), Roger Marshall (Kansas), Katie Boyd Britt (Alabama) and Pete Ricketts (Nebraska), won’t compel any action, but Schmitt said he hopes it sends a signal to Panama, and to Trump, that the Republican-controlled Congress is ready to act on his foreign policy ambitions.

“This is an opportunity, I think, for Panama to do the right thing,” Schmitt told The Washington Post. “They’ve now heard what President Trump has to say, and I hope they hear what the United States Senate has to say.”………..

So much for respecting a sovereign nation.
Let’s hope Panama stands firm and tells them to mind their own busines

If this blackmail succeeds, they’ll feel emboldened to dictate who sovereign nations worldwide can trade with, or worse, force them to deal exclusively with the US.

This is so stupid. The people who voted for him didn’t demand this - it’s strictly a power grab on his part. It’ll be interesting how long before the general public decides he’s not doing stuff he said he would do.

Don't hold your breath. I have NO faith that his supporters will ever see him for who he is.

I don’t know. It really feels like he believes he’s the most powerful man on Earth, expecting everyone to humor his every whim. His mental decline has been evident for years, yet those around him are too afraid to challenge him, fearing the consequences of opposing his ideas. No one in his inner circle dares to speak the truth.

It’s an old story, one that history has repeated many times.

Think of Hitler, shifting phantom armies on maps as Berlin crumbled, or Nero, playing while Rome burned.

When a totalitarian leader demands absolute obedience and refuses to face unpleasant truths, those closest to him stop speaking honestly out of fear—and that’s when disastrous consequences often follow.

Well, I agree about MAGA - they are lost and probably irredeemable. But a lot of folks reluctantly voted for him, I’m hoping they tire of his idiocies fairly quickly. That’s what I meant by general public.
