    There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

    Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

    Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

    During Fox and Friends they were talking about Rudy presenting proof of widespread voter fraud during Maria's show. I watched the entire thing with Rudy and he states he has proof of a back door in the voting machines. Then he said all those scary commie names and Soros, babbled a little bit but did appear sober. IF there really is proof, and Rudy really has proof people should be going to jail. But alas, I suspect it will turn out much like the Presidents committee to investigate the millions of illegal votes for Hillary, nada. I am not sure if it was the first thing, but one of the big things that caused me to realize the Repubs were duping me way back in the 90's was this voter fraud thing. There is either very little voter fraud, or the Repubs are too incompetent and too impotent to do anything about it.

    I like how he keeps lauding his win in Texas “by a lot” and how there was no corruption or fraud involved.

    He won Texas in 2016 by like 15% (I forget the exact spread) and by 6% in 2020... now extrapolate that to the battleground states that he barely won in 2016 and well, yeah, it speaks for itself doesn’t it? You lost the election, Donald.

    Pretty much this. Some are arguing the Republicans did gain House seats and overall did better than expected, so they then claim that this is good evidence something was fishy. But, I think it's clear there were more split ticket voting going on. I mean, I can't be the only one who voted split ticket.

    I absolutely split my ticket, voting for men and women, candidates of all races, old and young. :winkthumb:

    I'm so done with these "fraud" talks by trump and his minions, when Jan 20 comes either Biden is going to be sworn in or the SoTH will be, either way I'm good.

    If this was meant to be anything other than red meat for Trump's base they wouldn't have put Rudy Giuliani in charge of all of it.

    My dad's been a strong Trump supporter but when he saw Trump's press conference early Wednesday morning following the election he said he knew the Trump team knew they didn't have the numbers necessary to win.

    My dad isn't a big social media guy so that probably plays a role, but he doesn't believe this election was illegally stolen away from Trump and thinks it would be better for Trump to stop going down this path with Giuliani.

    My point being, I think we're about to the point where it's only the true Trump cultists and conspiracy nuts who believe this election was stolen. Which amounts to, if I had to guess, around that 30% number we tended to look at as Trump's floor of support. I'd like to think that that number's actually significantly smaller and that the internet throws off your perception and that they're just loud as fork, but 30% is probably about it.

    Oh for the love of...

    These ballots aren’t included in the count. This changes nothing. For the love of all that is holy the Republican Party is insane.

    that inconvenient fact isn’t mentioned at all in the stupid write up by Gregg. BTW we should never trust someone named Gregg spelled with three Gs. We know better. 🙄

    This could go here or the Covid thread
    ============
    Despite painstaking efforts to keep election sites safe, some poll workers who came in contact with voters on Election Day have tested positive for the coronavirus, including more than two dozen in Missouri and others in New York, Iowa, Indiana and Virginia.

    The infections cannot be tied definitively to polling places. Because COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in the U.S., there is no way to determine yet whether in-person voting on Election Day contributed to the surge, public health experts said..........

    Interesting article on perceptions on losing
    =======================
    ..........For generations, Americans have hated sore losers, whether in playground disputes, affairs of the heart, sports or politics.

    But Trump’s refusal to concede to President-elect Joe Biden and his insistence, without evidence, that the election was rigged against him has focused a spotlight on a rapidly shifting culture’s growing acceptance of losers who push back against the truth.

    The refusal to acknowledge clear results — Biden won a higher percentage of the popular vote, 50.8 percent, than any challenger to a sitting president since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932 — is not unique to Trump.......

    A majority of Republican voters — 70 percent — say the election was unfair, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll conducted last weekend; 90 percent of Democrats, meanwhile, said they believe the vote was free and fair.

    There always have been people who refuse to admit defeat. But in a society that puts a growing premium on self-regard and empathy for long-excluded groups, sore losers can be redefined as unfairly maligned victims, according to psychologists and political scientists who study changing attitudes toward losing.

    In sports, for example, “fans are now more likely to insist their team would have won if it wasn’t for some fraud, if it wasn’t for that one bad call,” said Jimmy Sanderson, a professor of sports management at Texas Tech University who has studied the psychology of losing.

    New technology and social media have given fans and players a way to find others who share their grievances, and that has emboldened people to reject the fact of defeat, Sanderson said.

    “When I grew up, you lost, you admitted it, you moved on,” he said. “Now, players are more willing to challenge league commissioners and fans refuse to admit a loss — even though they know it happened — because we don’t want to give the other side the satisfaction.”...........
