There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

Why pretend? Just be up front about your avoidance. If she's a friend, she'll understand. Either way, you stick with your decision. The health of you and your family is more important.

Yea, the few people who have said something to me about not going anywhere have basically been told “you’ve made the decision you believe best suits you and your life situation, and I’ve done the same”
I don’t necessarily distrust those people, but mentally going through 5 layers of contact tracing isn’t worth it.

Yeah, I know, I'd rather just not argue with her. Having known her for 20 years, she'll make a stink about it, so I'll just let it be. Hopefully it's nothing, but will wait and see how it pans out.

So, the more I think about this, I have to ask.

have any of these crackpots who want to contest the vote actually done the math? If they get everything they want, and GA, PA, MI, WI, and AZ all get discarded....Biden is still president, winning the electoral vote 242-232.

Quite possibly, but changing the results isn’t the actual goal here. Kowtowing to Trump for their own political futures is more important than doing your patriotic duty of standing behind our election systems.

Indeed, they're about scoring brownie points with Trump now so that if he runs in 2024, they've curried favor with him for when the time comes.

Actually, he's not. It takes 270 votes to win the presidency. So if the Rs are somehow successful (still don't believe it will), Biden doesn't win.

Now CNN is reporting the 11 more Republican senators including John Kennedy, are planning to oppose Biden's election. forking shame.

I think what they are doing is more than scoring brownie points at this point. Graham mentioned that Republicans will not win another election if states continue to expand mail-in votings. I think the same maybe true with early voting. They are raising objections now so that Republicans control states can point to this as the reason to put more restrictions on early, mail-in votings. Why can the US make Election Day a national holiday? Some employers don’t even let their employees off unless the employees use their vacation hours.

Based on what? The 12th amendment says that whoever has the most electoral votes is president. I can't find anything that legally states that 270 votes is required. Everything I see simply says that a person has to have the most votes to win. You only have to go back to the 50's to see when less than 270 votes was a majority.

If you throw a state out, 270 is no longer the number. The bar lowers to half + 1 of the available votes, if I remember correctly

I wouldn't be surprised if he also believes in the Q bullshirt

    • GOP Congressman-elect Burgess Owens of Utah on Thursday said that he will support the challenge to President-elect Joe Biden's presidential victory on the House floor and contended that there was "no question" that President Donald Trump was reelected to a second term.
    • In an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, Owens said that his goal was "to make sure that I'm doing everything I can to take this to every legal end we have."

What Gohmert’s suit was trying to do, and what the rest of the treasonweasels behind that statement might be trying to do as well, is not just deny the votes to Biden, but have the electoral votes from the swing states awarded to Trump. Gohmert was actually arguing that Pence could just decide to award the electoral votes as he sees fit.

That way they think Trump will be “re-elected”. If Democrats had tried this, we would be seeing them all stroke out, btw. It’s un-American as hell. The Cruz statement contains several falsehoods, and Gohmert is on some network, Newsmax or OAN, openly calling for violence, since the courts won’t hear his case. He says people will have to take to the streets and be as violent as antifa.

I think everyone should complain to the Bar Association for each of the senators and representatives who are lawyers. Then we should demand that the ones who were just elected not be seated, since they are alleging the election shouldn’t be recognized, they shouldn’t be allowed to take office. Write to your representatives at the very least and let them know how you feel about the fact that the Republican Party no longer believes that certified elections are valid.

Sadly, my representative is one of the OG treasonweasels. Bradley frigging Byrne.

no surprise Ted Cruz is part of this

The 11 senators, led by Ted Cruz of Texas, said they will vote against certain state electors unless Congress appoints an electoral commission to immediately conduct an audit of the election results. They acknowledged they are unlikely to change the results of the election.

“We intend to vote on January 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed,” they wrote in the statement.

So was mine for the Texas lawsuit. I just finished writing him and both of my Senators, asking them not to lend their names to this sordid business. I appealed to them to remember their oaths to defend the Constitution and stressed that the actions proposed by Hawley, Cruz and others are being done without any credible evidence having been provided to the American public. I expect that my pleas will fall on deaf ears. Actually I know that the emails will be read by staffers and will never be seen by my elected officials. The staffers will tally the pros and cons on an issue and they will report any significant spread of the numbers. Beyond that, the email was simply me blowing off steam, since I know it was an effort with no possibility of having a desired impact.

I did say that I will never vote for someone who lends their name to this anti-democratic sedition, so maybe that will resonate with whoever reads their emails.
