There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

How the GOP has reacted to the election
    ==========================

Just 27 congressional Republicans acknowledge Joe Biden’s win over President Trump a month after the former vice president’s clear victory of more than 7 million votes nationally and a convincing electoral-vote margin that exactly matched Trump’s 2016 tally.

Two Republicans consider Trump the winner despite all evidence showing otherwise. And another 220 GOP members of the House and Senate — about 88 percent of all Republicans serving in Congress — will simply not say who won the election.

Those are the findings of a Washington Post survey of all 249 Republicans in the House and Senate that began the morning after Trump posted a 46-minute video Wednesday evening in which he wrongly claimed he had defeated Biden and leveled wild and unsubstantiated allegations of “corrupt forces” who stole the outcome from the sitting president................

And whoever runs the Twitter feed of the AZ Republican Party is bat shirt crazy.

This is just dangerous and insane shirt beyond compare.

Anyone want to 'both sides' this one and give some examples from the left where you can show this is just all the same shirt over again?

    Anyone.. anyone?

    Bueller?

    Thought so.

And they're going back to court...again. This shirt is dangerous. Who would've thought - even when it was the GOP of W and Haliburton - that the GOP would be more akin to domestic terrorists than a political party. "Republicans" aren't trying to squash this violent rhetoric either. No, they're actually getting in on it. Ted Cruz says he's willing to litigate the PA case in front of SCOTUS. Lindsey Graham is calling for Brian Kemp's head in Georgia. Feeding Trump's delusion is going to get people killed. Sadly, I think that's exactly what Trump is hoping for at this point.

States' Rights...to do what other States want them to do.

Beyond pathetic. Which means I'm sure Jeff Landry will be joining in on behalf of Louisiana any minute.

Why aren't they also calling for the election results in swing states that Trump ended up winning to be overturned for the same reason? The same logic should hold there too, right?

I think someone from a different state needs to sue Texas to get them to overturn the results of their election....just to watch the AG there try and respond to the case without once saying that those persons have no cause to sue since they don't live in Texas.

So now I have learned that the state of Texas is suing four swing states, because, reasons.

Maybe the same person that called into Limbaugh's show and started crying on air about being ready to die for the president.

Good lord. It's now coming out that Jenna Ellis also has COVID and has been spreading it just as willy nilly as Rudy. These two shouldn't just be disbarred, they should be prosecuted.

White House is apparently scared that she infected a bunch of other people who refuse to wear masks and could have just spread it around even more because they refuse to wear masks.

    Texas AG, stand up guy.

Why is it that Trump can't find a lawyer who doesn't need a pardon?
Paxton is terrible. Corrupt as hell, and crazy. People keep voting him in because he has that "R" behind his name. Freaking embarrassing.

If you want to see how the kraken's legal team is faring in AZ today, here's a thread with the highlights so far. Sounds like this suit is getting tossed just like the rest.

I don't get it...why trump of all people? The GOP has their base begging for an authoritarian figure and they decide to blow their wannabe dictator wad on a 74 year old reality TV star who had no clue as to how government actually works. I'm of the opinion that in order to successfully subvert something, you need to 100% know how it should work in the first place. Thank God they didn't find someone smarter.

Maybe this was their dry run for that someone smarter? :covri:

All they're doing now is performing some sort of weird gap analysis fleshing out Democracy's vulnerabilities where "norms" and not laws can be exploited by someone a lot smarter than they are. The next time shouldn't be this easily exploited because we should put in actual controls that writes some of these assumed norms into law ensuring a smooth transition of power going forward.

If that were the case, it was a dumb idea. It pointed out the warning signs, and showed what would need to be done to fix some holes. It would make it more difficult later, but not impossible.

    Yeah...what he said

Lou Dobbs had the White House klansman on last night and was ranting and raving about Republicans not throwing enough of a fit to support Trump's attempted coup. In that rant he actually said something along the lines of "Why didn't the White House go out and hire Marc Elias to defend the president?" I really doubt he'd have taken the job. He seems to enjoy them losing. Then again attorneys are still attorneys and seem to like to argue either side of an argument just to win it. This still seems like to big of a deal to throw away your morals over.
