  • Here’s my Matt Gaetz question.

He resigned his seat, leaving it vacant. According to the law, vacancies have to be filled by a special election.

    But…

He won his election, and that term starts in January. Since he withdrew his name, can he still take his seat in January?

I believe that his resignation was clear to include the re-election. He even use that as a fake explanation for the timing.

My astute politico friend says same. Why wouldn’t he want the Rubio seat?
He doesn't want to put himself in the position for investigations. The Senate can do an ethics investigation as well. Because of the mess he caused in the House he is despised in Washington. The far right controls Florida with an iron grip and won't investigate anything.

I have my doubts he can win a state wide election anywhere, but right now the crazies are emboldened and falsely believe they are now the mainstream.

I think Republicans and Congress gave him a choice either stay in it and let the report come out or drop out

The report should come out anyway. Why was he not prosecuted? From what I have read, they have him on sex with a 17yo high school student. And drugs as well as sex trafficking.

This may not be correct, but I vaguely remember the friend took the fall or something right? The FBI investigated all of this, and the buddy got some serious time.

I don’t think even the friend got charged with everything. There is probably plenty of stuff to charge Gaetz. He’s getting off because of who he is, point blank. Just filthy corruption.

Donald Trump is reportedly considering right-wing radio host Dan Bongino to head the Secret Service, as the embattled security outfit seeks to rebuild credibility after multiple near-miss assassination attempts against Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign.

The host of the Dan Bongino Show political podcast previously served as a Secret Service agent, and was a regular commentator and host on Fox News until last year.

Trump is also reportedly considering Sean Curran, the current head of the president-elect’s security detail, and Robert Engel, the former leader of his detail, for the position, which does not require Senate confirmation.

The Independent has contacted Bongino and the Trump transition team for comment.

Bongino said on his podcast last week he hadn’t had any formal conversations with the Trump administration.

In addition to his stints in the Secret Service and at Fox, he has previously served as a New York City police officer, and ran unsuccessfully for Congress three times...........

This right here is what is wrong with the GOP. What a cluster you know what of a party.

there you go nothing like bad employees that are protecting your life.

I mean, more people voted for this than didn't. It wasn't particularly close.

So it is what people wanted. So let them have it.

As a 25 year sober recovering addict and a 14 year sober recovering alcoholic the one thing I can tell you is, you have to hit your rock bottom before you can recover.
Is that bad habit you're perhaps characterizing as an addiction, would that be your own activism in politics?

I can't think of anything else which would contextually make sense. The next presidential election will be when I'm about to turn 70. I'm considering taking the approach for the future, of ignore politics until then,,, then ask my daughter who I should vote for.

She's pretty sensible, she'd choose as well as I would. And this way I would get to watch old movies every day. Ignore news which irritates me, and increases my blood pressure.

Positives abound with this oddball idea I have of just blowing it off from now on.
