Now, that’s the true trickle down effect.

And I have plenty of friends from Europe who refuse to come to the U.S. until that dude is out of the office.

My wife and I are wondering about traveling to Europe this summer with our kids. Had a great time last year, but afraid/ashamed to go back right now.

Anyone know how Europeans are treating US Citizens on vacation?

I haven’t lived there in the last 25 years, but we go back at least once a year. It’s never been a problem, just don’t bring your red hat😀

These is so much economic, self inflicted damage on so many levels, created by one deranged Peice of work, It’s truly mind boggling, if not thousands of foreign college students being thown out, it’s tens of thousands of foreign tourists who want no part of this insanity, to contracts cancelled to seek other sources for God’s sake WHY?? 🔥

I actually don’t think he has any blanket thing against foreigners, although most foreign leadership thinks he’s unworthy… but as a sociopath that he is, he sees the hot button that turns on his xenophobic LOSERs and gives him traction. Besides getting rid of everyone in government who might be able to tell him no, he’s more than willing to shirt can every “foreigner who he thinks gains him support among his base, his gosh darned stupid nincompoops who will facilitate the economic destruction of our Nation, not realizing that he is the Capitalist Agent of Destruction. He just turned the US Brand to shirt, 🤬

I think that this is a lesson to the millions who felt that both parties are the same and felt that both candidates were equally bad. They didn't vote, and now we'll watch them complain about how terrible Trump is when they could have voted for the alternative.

Most of them don’t actually think Trump is terrible though. They like what he is doing, they just don’t want the stink of having voted for him. It’s all performative.

That seems to be true in many cases. Many of them defend everything he does but then will tell you they didn't vote for Trump and don't support him.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. Someone needs to go to Jail, someone really needed to go to jail between 2020-24, and it didn’t happen. Now we’re collectively paying. And it’s not foreign born US citizen who should suffer becoming targeted victims of the predatory Trump Admin who has lawlessly singled them out in his manufactured purity crisis.
Please don’t accept this. You thought the place was already trashed? You ain’t seen nuth’n yet.

    What could possibly go wrong?
    =======================

The Trump administration is shuttering the state department’s last remaining bastion to monitor foreign disinformation campaigns.

Known as the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (R/Fimi) hub, the closure represents a huge victory for rightwing critics who had alleged that the office, despite only looking at foreign state-level disinformation attacks on other countries, was involved in censoring American conservative speech. It comes as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to dismantle what it describes as government overreach in monitoring speech.

“Over the last decade, Americans have been slandered, fired, charged, and even jailed for simply voicing their opinions,” the secretary of state, Marco Rubio, posted on X on Wednesday. “That ends today.”

The move follows an executive order on “countering censorship and restoring freedom of speech” that characterizes previous efforts against misinformation as government infringement on constitutionally protected speech rights.

Rubio – who said in his own confirmation hearing that countering Chinese disinformation was critical – disparaged the office, formerly known as the Global Engagement Center (GEC), saying it “cost taxpayers more than $50m per year and actively silenced and censored the voices of Americans they were supposed to be serving”.

The elimination of R/Fimi leaves the state department without any dedicated resources to counter increasingly sophisticated government disinformation campaigns. Russia reportedly spends approximately $1.5bn annually on foreign influence operations, Iran’s primary propaganda arm had a $1.26bn budget in 2022, and China invests “billions of dollars annually”, according to GEC estimates.

Jeanne Shaheen, Senate foreign relations committee ranking member, condemned the shuttering, telling the Guardian in part that “Moscow and Beijing celebrate each time this administration dismantles another critical foreign policy tool”.

“The president is completely ceding the global information space to our adversaries, who are only too happy to fill the void with anti-American propaganda,” Shaheen said.……..

I noticed they don’t say the letter was false - just prematurely sent. They’re clowns, evil clowns to be sure.

This entire episode might as well be ripped from Veep. Unbelievable.

I noticed they don’t say the letter was false - just prematurely sent. They’re clowns, evil clowns to be sure.
It wasn't sent with their knowledge and had not been approved. It made everything more of a mess and contradicted dialogue the Harvard lawyers had been having for weeks. But Trump CANNOT admit to that sort of error, so he does what he always does: doubling down on it and declaring intent.

The justice department’s civil rights division is shifting its focus away from its longstanding work protecting the rights of marginalized groups and will instead pivot towards Donald Trump’s priorities including hunting for noncitizen voters and protecting white people from discrimination, according to new internal mission statements seen by the Guardian.

The new priorities were sent to several sections of the civil rights division this week by Harmeet Dhillon, a Trump ally who was confirmed a little more than two weeks ago to lead the division.

Several of them only give glancing mention to the statutes and kinds of discrimination that have long been the focus of the division, which dates back to the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Several of the mission statements point to Trump’s executive orders as priorities for the section.

The mission statement for the voting section, for example, barely mentions the Voting Rights Act and instead says the section will focus on preventing voter fraud – which is exceedingly rare – and helping states find for noncitizens on their voter rolls (non-citizen voting is also exceedingly rare).

The guidance for the Housing and Civil Enforcement section does not make a single mention of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark 1968 civil rights law that has long been a central part of the department’s work.

“It’s absolutely astonishing,” said Sasha Samberg-Champion, a former appellate lawyer in the justice department’s civil rights division. “This reflects the complete abdication of the core responsibilities of each of these sections.”

The justice department did not immediately respond to a request for comment……..

The guidance also says the section will “focus on challenges to racially discriminatory lending programs”. Samberg-Champion said that was a “code red”.

“They’re going to look for opportunities to challenge special purpose credit programs and other lending programs that are meant to enhance credit opportunities for people who have been starved of credit historically,” said Samberg-Champion, who served as deputy general counsel for enforcement and fair housing during the Biden administration.

“It’s just astonishing that what they’re trying to do is actually diminish the availability of credit for people and go after banks, go after lenders who presumably are trying to make their credit availability fairer.”

Guidance for the educational opportunities section focuses on preventing discrimination against white applicants and cites the supreme court’s 2023 ruling saying that affirmative action programs are unconstitutional. It also says the department will focus on anti-transgender issues.

“This mandate includes protecting the rights of women and girls to unfettered access to programs, facilities, extracurricular activities, and sports or athletic opportunities that exclude males from presence or participation,” the statement reads.

“The mandate also includes preventing racial discrimination in school admissions policies and preventing antisemitism in education wherever it is found.”………

The Trump administration is planning to narrow protections for endangered species, in a move that environmentalists say would accelerate extinction by opening up critical habitats for development, logging, mining and other uses.

The proposal is the latest deregulatory effort by Donald Trump, who has made it a priority to dismantle endangered species protections as part of a broader quest to boost energy extraction and industrial access, even in the US’s most sensitive and vulnerable natural areas.

The new proposal from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service offers a new interpretation of the of the 1973 Endangered Species Act, which would strike habitat destruction from regulations.

At issue is a longstanding definition of two terms in the Endangered Species Act: “harm” and “take”. “Harm” has meant altering or destroying the places those species live.

“Take”, meanwhile, is a term used in regulations to denote any actions that include hunting, capturing, wounding or killing a protected species, which has included altering or destroying the places those species live.……

The US Fish and WildlifeService and National Marine Fisheries Service said in a proposed rule, issued on Wednesday, that habitat modification and destruction should not be considered “harm” because it is not the same as intentionally targeting a species, which is defined as “take”.……
