He is actively trying to do that, and there's a good chance it will transpire. So if I'm understanding you correctly you're saying Trump will lose your vote if the economic stimulus package includes checks to all Americans?

I’ll clarify.
This is an extraordinary situation, so no, if this is a one time thing. If it becomes a constant policy, he sure would. But it wouldn’t matter what I thought if all of that comes to pass. We will all be told what we can and cannot do and think after a couple of years of that.
And I’d rather starve than be given a handout. Worked my whole life thru a disability, believe in hard work. Now that I’m too disabled to work I’m punished by having to wait two years for Medicare. And I almost died this year. No doubt being uninsured for the first time in my life correlated to that. My own attorney, and the govt. told me had I not worked at all I’d have gotten Medicare immediately.

To me, that is very backwards. Encourage people to not work and live off of the govt.

Lastly, It seems to me that anything Trump does or doesn’t do is criticized mercilessly. More so than any POTUS I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. I can see good and bad in people from both ‘sides’ but it sure looks like the left is unable and or unwilling to reciprocate that thought process.

Of course, Sweden isn't a textbook definition of a Socialist State. There are very few countries that fit the definition. But Sweden, like many countries, does have a Socialist aspect to it. Same with France, the U.K., and so many others...

On the other hand, people think of the U.S. as a Capitalist State, and it is, but not even the U.S. fit the textbook definition of Capitalism. If the U.S. were 100% Capitalist, there wouldn't be a middle class, we wouldn't have things like utilities, or a G.I. Bill, or clean air and water... Martin Shkreli would still be making $750 for each pill he sold, and by this time, every single industry would be a monopoly.

That is utterly ridiculous... Guess you have never worked, lived or raised on a farm. A guy on welfare in the city can sit on his arse all day... A Farmer still has equipment to maintain, seed to buy, Gasoline, payroll on larger farms,, Still has to take his goods to market..Etc...

This is off the subject. But Before WWII the Nazi's would send City Children to go work on the farm as part of one of their Hitler Youth's Programs. This gave the city kid a chance to do something different. Get a understanding of what farming was like and the work involved. And it also helped the farmers in a time the extra help came in handy... Plus I am sure that few Parents were happy to have a break as well.

I am a registered Indepentant. I'll vote for whom I think is best.. If I was a Democrat right now, I think that either Tulsi or Buttigeig would be better qualified during this Pandemic and would make a better Nominee. Just my opinion with no facts...

But I would wager that if the early primaries were held again, that the votes would be wayyyy different.

If you do, I'd be happy to go through all his tweets, and comments and insults over the past 20 years. If you agree that he is being treated exactly the same way that he has treated others, then why feel the need to defend him, shouldn't he get back what he dishes out?

Second, how much have you listened to talk radio? Do you really think the right pundits and those who follow that are willing to see the good in Hillary or Bill?

There's a cognitive bias that makes people downplay when the "other side" is attacked, and amplify when their side is attacked. Do you think that could be at play with your perception?

Oh, and for the record, I really hate the way politics is going, but the fact of the matter is, it works. Trump's election proves that it works. Republican majorities proves that demonizing the opposition and launching investigation after investigation on your opponents works. The Democrats are just now catching up.

I think Trump deserves most of what he gets, since he dishes it out, and he violates basic norms and expectations we have of our leaders. But eventually the Democrats will lose me like the Republicans did. But the fact of the matter is people like me don't swing elections.

So until you personally decide that basic norms and decency outweigh your desire for tax cuts and deregulation (or whatever policy you think you want)... then this is what we're going to continue to get.

I'm not a socialism bad person, but I'm also not a capitalism is bad person. I'm generally a constantly watch the system and make adjustments as needed person. I'm also more inclined to try to minimize risks vs. maximizing peaks person.

Why not? We're giving them money they couldn't earn themselves right? If they go out of business a more efficient business owner will buy it up and then make money. That's the way the free market works.

I'm not against giving farmers money, but it is absolutely welfare. They can't earn the money on their own, so we have to prop them up.

Do you think the rest of the working poor don't effect your world Joe? You don't think it affects education levels in their children? Healthcare, which drives up your rates? What about crime rates? You don't think poverty levels effect crime rates?

Poverty effects everyone, whether you like it or not.

i fully recognize that there must be commerce - i would say capitalism is an engine for social advancement - but socialism (in whatever it's historic forms) is both a steering and braking system
without the steering and braking, the engine becomes destructive FAST

That’s a very nice post imo. Although we seem to have different perspectives you do not come across as bigoted or condescending there. Thank you for that, sincerely, not being facetious.

I absolutely cannot stand the way Trump carries himself in many many ways. He’s a terrible speaker, he’s very quick to visible anger, I could go on and on. However, to me he is much more fit for the office than any of the candidates I see opposing him. In a world where it seems most politicians now are pushing for something akin to the ‘S’ word (which I wholeheartedly loathe) he’s about all I have left. I wish there were better but I do not see it.

For instance, look at O’Rourke. Apologizes for being White. Heck he apologizes for just about anything and everything, trying to prove he’s ‘woke’ by pandering. As a white person that makes me sick. I will never apologize for being born white. As I’d never expect anyone to apologize for being born, however they are.

To me, the left is comparable to the old U.S.S.R in their ideology. If the far left does indeed take over, as I predict they will in 2024, I see things such as free speech and capitalism going bye bye. Which I think is a terrible thing. I try to ride the middle in politics as things are too fluid for me to just toe a company line. Some issues I lean left, some I lean right. I wish more would try and do the same. These are not static issues, we must have an open mind. IMO.

I am no Republican nor am I a Democrat. I’m just a human that watches and reacts as best I can to an ever evolving fluid world. (Politics)

I can point out so many examples of the S word not working. But you already know them all as you’re no dummy.

Greta post. I’ve been an independent my whole life as well. Politics and big issues socially are just too fluid for me to stubbornly pick a ‘side’.

Then sit in my figurative foxhole lobbing verbal grenades at anyone that dares think differently, as people on both ‘sides’ do.

If we’d get out of those foxholes and try to actually listen to the other side, once in awhile, meet in the middle....we’d all be much much better imo.

Just as stories usually have three sides, and the truth lies in the middle, so too do issue in politics. Same with social issues imo. Fluid. Therefore I believe we should be fluid as well in our decision making.
