Being out of touch with minorities and being racist are two different things.
I agree with that statement.
It looks like with Pete he is getting criticized for both though. I don't know what evidence there is that he is a racist. Unfortunately, that term is thrown around with little or no evidence these days.
He angered quite a few black leaders in South Carolina by running ads that made it appear they endorsed the Mayor for President.
He angered some minority residents in South Bend when his redevelopment program resulted in destroying low income housing
He angered some residents of South Bend in his reaction to a police-involved shooting of a black man.
There have been some bad gaffes on the trail, for instance telling a black woman that he wasn't asking for her vote.

I am not sure, but it seems that Mayor Pete's base is older Millennial/Gen X, upper income, educated, white, urban, liberal. He isn't going to get the younger black vote - which in the primary are almost all activists. Those voters are going to go with Sanders or Warren - and I don't think there are a whole lot of them.
The older black voters are, so far, sticking with Biden - who has a longer time connecting with the constituency.
I am sure any calls that Pete is a racist are coming from the more younger block of voters. And really it probably has a lot to do with his perceived lack of left-wing credentials as opposed to anything that is overtly racist. It seems common with that crowd to categorize political differences as coming from a racist mindset.
And I'd love to be able to use the word polyglot more often so the longer he's in the race, the better. I've been Team Mayor Pete pretty much since the beginning. He just seems to be the most authentic candidate out of all of them. When he doesn't know something, he goes and learns it. He doesn't just learn how to answer a difficult question, he seems to actually go learn everything possible in the amount of time he's got.I agree with your assessment, but I think Pete needs to just keep being himself.
He gets himself into binds sometimes when he responds authentically like telling that lady he wasn’t trying to get her vote.
If people have the wrong idea about you, the best way to cure it is to be consistent and eventually reality overcomes perception.
Many politicians make the mistake of trying to overcompensate to combat a misperception and it just comes off as pandering.
Pete’s political career is just beginning.
Yang is done, he will be a bad man for saying he supports Nuclear Power.
Now we pay money and a fast track to citizens to the families that were separated? Yea sorry but fork all that noise.
