it is sorta paranoid, don’t you think? It’s not like Spanish is a super secret code than nobody else could possibly translate, right? I mean, how weird to even think they were promising something right in front of everyone. I don’t like to think you are actually serious about that thought.
I'm sure a lot of people who only speak Spanish were happy to get a little moment to understand what was being said at all.
Frankly, it comes across as pandering to the woke.
If any of the "Spanish speaking" candidates wanted to tell Spanish speakers about their platforms, they'd book some time with Telemundo or Univisión. As far as I know, only Beto can carry an actual conversation in Spanish... the others are just reading or memorizing statements.
As for Spanish speakers who don't speak English, they are either not watching 3 hrs of debate to hear two people say 2 sentences in Spanish, or have SAP turned on.
He didn't break into English a few times; he said sort of an intro in Spanish then all English. But he sounds like he can understand and make himself understood in an informal conversation.Fair point.
I wasn't sure, so I looked. Looks like he did an interview with Tlemundo last spring. I don't speak Spanish, and he did have to break into English a few times, but he gave it a shot. how do you think he did?

Yep, that's what I meant when I said I think as a field the Democrats did some things that will hurt the nominee in November. Like when Castro promised abortion rights to transgender women.
You think that's going to hurt the democratic party in November? Lol. You're literally the only person that will remember that.
He's a polyglot. Speaks (or at least understands/can read, or get by in) 7 languages. Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, Dari, and French. He didn't break into English a few times; he said sort of an intro in Spanish then all English. But he sounds like he can understand and make himself understood in an informal conversation.
Yet, even though most of the interviews were translated, him coming on Telemundo fells legitimate, unlike 2 sentences during the debates.
Out of curiosity- why do you weigh in on Dem political flaws when it is abundantly apparent you can’t/won’t hold your guy to anywhere near a similar standard?Yep, that's what I meant when I said I think as a field the Democrats did some things that will hurt the nominee in November. Let's not quickly forget that the Republicans, while they sit back and yuck it up about the Democratic debates, are confidently and in unity trying to again elect an absolute inattentive, incompetent puppet for the corporate elite.
The best the Republicans can come up with is cutting social benefits for the middle class while throwing more and more money to the most wealthy. The pandering they do based on race and class status is laughable, but they know it works. And to top it off, with the predictable smoke and mirrors approach, use the stock market as a measure of success for how the average American is doing now. Haven't seen that one used before.
In short, they have nothing.
I was just coming here to post the same thing. I like the GOP's chances too.
Kind of like building a wall to stop illegal immigration.Yep, that's what I meant when I said I think as a field the Democrats did some things that will hurt the nominee in November. Like when Castro promised abortion rights to transgender women.
Hell, naw! This is AMERICA, we don't need no damn ENGLISH! We expect our candidates to speak AMERICAN.I think there is a substantial percentage of potential voters who would prefer that debates for the election of an American president be conducted in English.
Kind of like building a wall to stop illegal immigration.
Or something about "clean, beautiful coal" will come back.
There is obvious pandering done by most politicians. I get that it is easy to be smug about it when the other side is currently in debates and yours isnt in it, but if we were paying more attention, we could outline plenty of over the top pandering done by Trump. He is desperate for approval.
