After months of internal arguing among Democrats over whether to impeach President Donald Trump, the dam is finally breaking in favor of trying to remove him from office. The Washington Post reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would announce a formal impeachment inquiry on Tuesday, following a bombshell report that Trump illegally asked Ukraine’s government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, one of his political opponents. (He essentially admitted to having done so over the weekend.)

“Now that we have the facts, we’re ready,” Pelosi said Tuesday morning at a forum hosted by The Atlantic. At 5 p.m. the same day, she was back with more. "The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the constitution, especially when the president says Article Two says I can do whatever I want," referring to the segment of the Constitution that defines the power of the executive branch of the government. Pelosi's message was that checks and balances of those branches are just as central to the Constitution. And one more thing: "Today, I am announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry," she said at a conference broadcast on Twitter by the Huffington Post. ...

I agree with slowing down to let the courts rule. It will push the impeachment well into next year, but that'll be Trump's fault for not cooperating. The result will be that impeachment will be fresher in the minds of the voters if it is pushed into Spring of next year. Voters will be reminded of Trump's wrongdoing. The courts will probably force many more witnessed to testify and many more substantiating documents to be released. The only reasons to rush it are to reduce the impact on the Democratic Senators that are running for president, to avoid the argument that we should allow the elections to decide Trump's fate, and to avoid implicating Biden. The counter is that Trump's actions are undermining or have undermined the integrity of the election, so he needs to be removed, and if Biden is implicated, then so be it. If it does get too close to the election, perhaps the senate will fast track the trial, but by that point, the House will have uncovered much more evidence.

Honestly, I don't care about the election.

Ok, that's a lie, I do care. But, I don't care more about the election than doing the right thing.

Process does matter to a point, and while I believe enough has been stated or shown to the public to build a case, the smarter thing to do would be to force the subpoenas (through the courts as needed), get key witnesses to testify in closed or public hearings, and get key documents.

I was sick of hearing how Obama couldn't have his SCOTUS nominee heard because the election was a year away. And I don't want to hear that impeachment or investigations of credible situations is off limits due to an election. That also means they don't need to get ahead of themselves, because of elections.

While I feel like the case leans this way, and they will never win everyone over, they need the case to be icon clad and have the moral ground. Specific corroboration evidence.

Heck, subpoena the NSA. I bet they have Trump's calls, since he uses his unsecured cell.

I'm behind on these judiciary committee hearings. I wanted to listen today, but I was caught up in other things.

If you go to about 3 hours and 15 minutes (about 15 seconds early), Rep Dean starts to get into the case about obstruction and why Democrats are pushing this faster than some would like. Why they didn't push it all in court.

Berke is a touch aggressive (which is being a bit nice), but man, the Republicans wanted to object all over the place. I haven't watched the minority counsel video yet. Were democrats constantly interrupting too?

    It was a bizzare situation
You had one staff attorney, who had just testified, questioning another. Two peers, one was given a smidgen of "authority" and let it go to his head. That's never a good look.

Well I hate to tell you guys people are waiting for all kinds of politicians to age out just not the old rural white guys.

The vast majority of young people don't think policy for us should be made by people with only a ten to fifteen year life expectancy left.

The politician over retirement age should retire!

Sorry if that ruffles feathers here but it the truth!

Here are some articles talking about this apparently bannable topic I like to call: "Changing Demographics"

Edit to add: In case you don't know, there are two major factors for how someone votes: Age, and Education

Just think the Outrage if someone had said.. "Problem with our government is they are young and black."

Funny how one side can be openly racist and get away with it.

    Are you calling me racist?

I'm going to have to start an entire thread about demographics, and older GOP voters. I had no idea this was such a strong trigger. You can deny climate science all you want, but good luck with actuarial tables.

Perhaps you should start another thread. You're clearly digging a hole in this one. :hihi:
