Should there be presidential debates for this election? (1 Viewer)

I am starting to hear it being floated by some that there should not be any debates for this presidential election?

Is there a precedent for this?

Honestly, after Clinton and Trump, how can the presidency be further diminished? Satanic ritual in the oval office? There's already been sex (Clinton) and lies, gaffes and theatrics (Trump).

I imagine that if Trump is reelected, we would find out how it can be diminished further.

To not have a debate because it might 'tarnish' the image of the office of the presidency is a little weak kneed if you ask me. Out of the those two that might 'tarnish' the office, will in fact be in that office after the election so the damage is done.

Trump and his organization is currently under investigation for tax fraud.
Trump has bilked the tax payers out of at least 1.2 million dollars in charges for stays at his resorts.
Trump is responsible for 180K+ deaths of Americans
Trump has repeatedly sided with Russia over Americans
Trump has allowed Russia and Putin to put bounties on and kill American soldiers and refuses to do anything in response.
Trump is responsible for gassing American citizens exercising their 1st amendment rights.
Trump has revealed classified information to Russia.
Trump is responsible for the worst economy in US history.
Trump is a laughing stock to the rest of the world and our allies no longer trust the US.

Yeah.....Biden is going to have to be damn busy to accomplish all of this. What's really sad is that you were dead serious when you posted this. You know it's true but to save face, you are doing the same thing the man you admire so much does. It only works for him because he has people like yourself who will cheapen themselves to defend him.

The debate should not be be on zoom. I don't trust either side to not have handlers outside of camera view feeding quickly sourced information to them. This is especially true for Trump, since he will have much greater resources to do so.

They need to be on a stage, say 15-20 feet apart and not allowed to walk toward each other.

I probably won’t watch, and I’m of the same opinion as Richard. When one of the participants is literally the worst president we’ve ever had, and responsible for our “worst in the world” response to the current pandemic, there’s no reason to watch. 25% of the world’s deaths. That’s his legacy, that should be enough to lose him re-election.

Debates don’t matter one bit in this case.

I am not intentionally trying to be a contrarian here, but I would be fine with no debates. Don't get me wrong. I believe there should be debates, but this time around, I see very little value in seeing these two candidates in that format. As UTJ suggested, there is the allure of a possible train wreck and with these two guys, it's almost a guaranteed train wreck. However, as much damage that has been done recently to the dignity of the presidency, I have no desire to see Trump and Biden potentially further diminish the office with lies, gaffes or theatrics.

That one was a town hall where they would walk around to answer the person asking the questions. They can't do a town hall in this climate. At least, not a full one.
