Obama talks about guns and religion
The irony is I think people respond more to authenticity. Presidential campaigns always feel way to focus grouped.

You don't want to be too authentic though.

Obama angers midwest voters with guns and religion remark

    Ed Pilkington

Barack Obama was forced onto the defensive at the weekend over unguarded comments he made about small-town voters across the midwest.

Obama was caught in an uncharacteristic moment of loose language. Referring to working-class voters in old industrial towns decimated by job losses, the presidential hopeful said: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The comments were seized on by his rival for the Democratic party candidacy, Hillary Clinton, who saw in them the hope of reviving her flagging campaign by turning voters in the important Pennsylvania primary on April 22 against what she classed as Obama's revealed "elitism".

Despite being made to look like a buffoon, I've read in a recent poll, Vance is ahead by 8pts
Yep, and why I thought Democratic money going to fringe candidates or their ads is ultimately stupid. You want a more forked up government? Because that's how you get a forked up government. Particularly in the Senate. Rand Paul gets a lot of heat because he likes to stall things in the Senate. These fringe candidates will do worse. And I forking hate Paul as a Senator. These crazy candidates are gonna win and make things worse. It was a terrible strategy from the word go.

Yet again, the Democratic party can't get out of their own way and looking likely to lose the house, and possibly the Senate. Crazy.

    Couldn't agree more!

That strategy was born out of flawed thinking by Democrats and that was believing that there were more sensible Republicans than the radicals. The Republican base is fully radicalized and they believe that everyone that is not them are evil. Democrats need to understand that they cannot overturn decades programming by radical right wing media and resort to promoting candidates that would appeal to Independents.

Indeed, and yet again they're losing the messaging war. And the shenanigans just sort of puts a bow on that. I have a hunch after this election, they're gonna have to go back to the drawing board yet again and think long and hard about what their messaging and brand is going to look like for 2024. Frankly, Biden is going to lose the Presidential election this time around. They need another young, energetic, passionate leader like Obama was and like Bill Clinton. I don't know who would fit that bill, but it needs to happen.

I don’t think Vance is ahead. Certainly not by 8 points. We’ll see, I suppose.

They are too busy fighting each other over what the party should look like.

I was a fan of Harris when she was in the Senate and once she decided to run, she lost her identity by trying to run to the extreme left of the party. She caved to the pressure of those that were beating her up over her AG days, which was one of the things I actually liked about her. The same thing happened to Klobuchar, they beat her up because she was mean.

Unfortunately they don't have anyone like that now. Obama was a once in a generation politician as far as charisma goes. The most charismatic active Democrat now is probably Bernie Sanders.
