With the increased scrutiny due to recent revelations in the press I thought maybe we can use a SCOTUS thread. We can discuss the impending Senate investigation and the legislation proposed today by Murkowski and King in the Senate that will formalize ethical guidelines.

We can also use this thread to highlight cases that possibly don’t deserve their own thread, like the following.

I saw this case today, and I cannot believe the US Government is allowed to do this. Unreasonable search and seizure? The examples he gives in the rest of the thread are just sickening:

Well, “x”as a designation is hardly accurate. And I didn’t say anything about making it better. The court issued the stay on the basis that the government will prevail in the lower court. The “x” designation was a creation of the Biden administration in April of 2022. If they can create it then the current administration can nullify it. Not really a matter of better or worse. It’s a travel document.

By "it", I meant your correction. That doesn't make the ruling any better. This is still a way to legally ignore the existence of trans and gender fluid people. Why is that a good thing?

Again I never said it was a good thing. Simply pointed out the why. And that it applied only to new passports

This was another shadow docket ruling. No arguments, no explanation. Just punishing people for who they are. There are people who will lose their passports over this. SCOTUS should never allow that to happen. But they are soulless mercenaries, bought and paid for.

Welp, like every other decision there is no real legal basis. It is personal opinion about something that really is none of their business.

    But, here we are…

The decisions from the lower courts were well reasoned and outlined the actual harm done by this policy. No matter what lies are told by certain members here - this is a punitive policy that could certainly result in people’s valid passports being revoked. They would then have to apply for a new passport that would misgender them and expose them to harm in certain countries if they have to show their passport.

There was zero harm in leaving them alone. Zero.

This is the sort of inane cruelty that conservatives love to inflict on others. It’s disgusting.

“This case concerns an Executive Branch policy requiring all new passports to display an individual’s sex at birth”

    Only new passports.

It’s a thing. On a travel document. Great Britain has two choices. Male or Female. Some countries have the “x”. As I said it’s a thing on a travel document.

As usual, you have no opinion of your own. Shocking. And for the record, the UK allows people to change the gender on their passports. The US, as of this ruling, will only use gender assigned at birth. That's erasure.

    And passport renewals/replacements.
A renewal or replacement is a new passport. Otherwise the current passport is good until it expires. No pasports are being revoked.

My opinion is it’s a simple travel document. Folks can be whatever they want. They can be a fury. I really don’t care one way or the other. It changes nothing about the person holding the passport. All the document says is who you are and what country and you can travel.

There is only one reason for SCOTUS to do this and it’s ideological, and punitive of trans people. They are bought and paid for and their masters want to punish trans people so they did this by a shadow docket ruling.

The administration has gone on record saying they may very well revoke passports if they got this ruling.

Some people just cannot stop themselves from lying to protect Trump.

    “Previously Issued Passports
U.S. passports and CRBAs with gender markers reflecting the holder’s gender identity— including those with an X marker — remain valid until they expire or are replaced.

In a recent update to the State Department website, the agency confirms that “[a]ll passports – including those with an X marker or those listing a sex different from your sex at birth – will remain valid for travel until their expiration date, under International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) policy.”  Some people are taking the precaution of traveling with a printout of the State Department’s webpage linked above to show anyone questioning the validity of their passport.

Note: Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry. Before international travel, always check the entry requirements for your destination. “

You never give up on a lie when it comes to defending Republicans and Trump.

You have never once said anything to defend Republicans or Trump that was the whole truth, the complete truth and nothing but the truth.

Everything you have ever said to defend Republicans and Trump has been loaded with intentional deceptions and misinformation. It's how you guys roll. Your dear leaders are honesty adverse, so you all are as well.

Trump demands dishonesty from everyone he is associated with. That’s just the straight truth.

This is pretty much how I feel about the 6. They should probably all be impeached.
