There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

Looking at non-citizens and their U.S.-born minor children redistributes 10 seats, with Ohio, Michigan, Alabama, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, West Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island each having one fewer seat. California will have four more seats than it otherwise would have; Texas will have three more seats; and New York, Florida, and New Jersey will have one additional seat each.

of course the part you missed is this is cumulative and no change from the previous census.

If it wasn't for the fact that whichever R's switched would be setting off a political suicide bomb, and would have to be under federal protection for the rest of their lives, it would make so much sense for the R's to go across.

These individuals would go down in history as true patriots.

They would hold all the power too. The stupid motion to vacate rule would still exist so they can extract demands from the Speaker or let MTG have her way. They could force Jefferies into being a center right Speaker.

But again, no such patriot - let alone four - exist.

I'm thinking four Reps could agree to alternate. I'll be Speaker a while, then you, then the other two. How many people can say they've been Speaker of the House? If each acts in good faith and works with the Dems, they can't be removed until their turn is over.

If Johnson does the right thing by allowing bills to be voted upon, Democrats should do the right thing by helping Johnson retain his speakership. He will need at least some Democrats to vote for him. Most Democrats May be able to abstain if he gets a majority of the Republicans. I would hope Democrats would allow the Republicans to vote first and then provide just enough votes to keep him in office.

He was censured by Texas GOP last year so not sure how long he will be around. He is in a runoff with some YouTuber called himself the “AK guy” for the republican primary in his district.

Trump wants Putin to stay in control of Russia. This aid and the coming European aid to Ukraine, will help Ukraine push Russia back, so Trump will not let Johnson go unpunished for hurting Putin.

That means the MAGA devotees in Congress are not going to let this go. The only way Johnson keeps his position is if he continues to work with the Democrats, because he needs their votes to keep his position.
