There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

At the same time, the Dems could've worked with McCarthy, and kept him the Speaker, while severing McCarthy's concessions to the fringies, and asking for concessions of their own.
But why? He has consistently betrayed his own word to them and the WH even after the D's saved him from shutting down the government.

Jeffrey's and the Democrats tried to do that. McCarthy blew them off and subsequently lost his speakership. Jeffrey's has said they're willing to work to elect a compromise Republican Speaker with some rules changes to defang the hard right. He's been rejected over and over.

Why are people working so hard to blame Democrats for this? It's not their disfunction or fault.

It's the American voters fault for voting for the Republicans that are responsible for this (and really all) disfunction. Maybe people should stop voting for Republicans if they want an actual functioning government. This isn't anything new, we've had repeated examples of how horrible Republicans are at governing when given power.

Maybe Dems should get in touch with the realities of the voters.
Maybe Dems should learn to play the game.

I'll tell you, things would be different today if Dems didn't shove Hillary Clinton down people's throats.

Maybe, but that's not really here or there. If Americans continue to vote for and elect Republicans, this is the disfunction they're voting for. Nobody should be surprised.

This mess was all foretold when McCarthy caved to his parties hard right and was elected Speaker after 15 rounds. The only surprise is that it didn't happen sooner.

Why would the Democrats support an election denier in Jeffries?

What's ironic about this whole situation is the Democrats were in a similar situation when Pelosi was last elected Speaker. Many progressives wanted the Democrats to force a vote on Medicare For All in the House. The squad, especially AOC, campaigned on Medicare For All.

The squad refused to force a vote on Medicare For All when Pelosi was getting elected Soeaker again. The refused to stand up to Pelosi and fell in line. But let's worry about the recent "chaos" from Republicans.

Because Jeffries is a good, rational lawmaker. Nothing he said in the clip was wrong.

Why do Republicans support the insurrectionist, election denying Donald Trump?

What does this have to do with Hillary ? She would have been a 100x better president than Trump. But no - she was female and a strong independent woman. That is something that a lot of conservative males feel threatned by.

Sadly she's also as genuine as a Wish.com Rolex and as likable as a botfly.
She should have done her own oppo research and campaigned hard in those states that ended up costing her.
That said, she's the most qualified person to run for a first term in my lifetime.

So it's okay if Democrats are election deniers but not Republicans? Good to know you are consistent.
So your contention is that Jeffries saying what actually happened - Russia tried to interfere in our election in 2016 (and 2020 tbh) - both times in an effort to help Trump win is THE EXACT SAME as what Trump did after 2020? Is that your assertion?

    [Mod Edit: :nono: Unnecessarily rude]

Have you seen her recent interviews? She's quite pleasant when she's not trying to be mistake free. She really made a lot of mistakes in 2016, but really, it was a perfect storm. Comey being the big factor.
