There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

Honestly even without the stuff McCarthy said on Meet The Press.. I don't believe the Democrats would have saved him.

I think he provided them a very convenient excuse to use here though.

"Bring it on." Lol. Gaetz and co. were like "OK."

let’s reflect that pelosi had a razor thin margin and kept moving with business. This is all on the republicans, the maga branch, and mostly, McCarthy himself.
Well, she was very adept at keeping the caucus united and had decades of experience as Speaker. McCarthy couldn't hold a candle to her. For all the grief she gets, she really sets the bar high on how to be an effective speaker and knew when and what to compromise on. McCarthy is a noob in that respect.

I think he thought after that vote, that he would have enough Democrats vote to save him. He might have, if he hadn’t just hit the hands that fed him.

He truly was a terrible Speaker.
Yes, this is for sure. Lied to everyone, broke his word to everyone, weak-willed, self-serving (he thought), too MAGA for his own good with moderates, not nearly MAGA enough for them.

The first moderate R who is known to be trustworthy and approaches Jeffries with a reasonable power-sharing idea will be easily voted to be Speaker.

Dems would have worked with McCarthy had he been the least bit trustworthy.

I believe some moderate dems indeed wanted to find an off ramp. The dems played that video in their caucus. That sealed their belief that mccarthy will not be an honest broker. Plus he offered nothing. It’s pure hubris.

    I agree and that's fair.

I'm just having a difficult time imagining a world where Democrats come to the rescue of Kevin McCarthy even given the unique circumstances here. If he had said he would work with them then yeah I guess I could see it, but I have difficulty imagining a world where McCarthy does that as well.

Well, how did we get a 45 day CR then? You do realize he was a part of that? I mean, the government would be shut right now.
I forgot to point out that the shutdown stand off wouldn't have happened had he held up his part of the deal made with Biden. McCarthy caused his own demise.

All those years republicans chanted ‘repeal and replace’ about Obamacare

They never answered the question ‘replace with what?’

    They’ll need an answer now

Problem Solver Rs are evidently big mad at Dems for not saving McCarthy. The second tweet below has an answer for them:

It should be pointed out that McCarthy agreed to the rule that it only takes one Rep to force a vote to vacate, and all the Rs voted to pass that rule. Yet now it’s the Dems’ fault? This is why the party is not worth supporting.
