The failure comes just more than a month after the company’s seventh Starship flight also ended in an explosive failure. The back-to-back mishaps occurred in early mission phases that SpaceX has easily surpassed previously, indicating serious setbacks for a program Musk has sought to speed up this year.

It has to be a priority for the Democrats in ‘26 and ‘28 to make it a priority to oust Musk, and all his companies contracts with the federal government, and to cancel any and all funding and grants that he is receiving from our tax dollars. He is a cancer. I will vote for democrats who run with that as part of their platforms.
    I’m sure NASA would disagree.

NASA will be fine without SpaceX. They were fine before SpaceX. With the ISS scheduled to be retired in 5 years, the CCP contract doesn’t have to be renewed.
What exactly do you think SpaceX is doing for NASA?

And celebrated doing so in a smarmy way by clowning around with a chainsaw onstage at CPAC. He’s a piece of shirt person.
The chainsaw thing after cutting tens of thousands of real jobs was the icing on the cake for the Musk hate. He got an erection from die hard MAGAs, but it was certified cringe for the rest of the sane world.

After NASA taps SpaceX's Starship for first Artemis landings ...

In 2021, NASA awarded SpaceX a $2.89 billioncontract to develop a lunar lander, the Starship HLS, for the Artemis program, including a crewed landing demonstration mission, and later added a second crewed landing for Artemis 4 with a $1.15 billion contract modification in 2022.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Initial Contract:
In April 2021, NASA selected SpaceX to develop a lunar lander (Starship HLS) for the Artemis program, with a $2.89 billion contract.

    • Purpose:
The Starship HLS is designed to deliver astronauts to the lunar surface and support long-term human exploration of the Moon.

      • Artemis III:
The initial contract included a crewed demonstration mission to the Moon, part of the Artemis III mission, which aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon.
      • Second Crewed Landing:
In November 2022, NASA awarded SpaceX a $1.15 billion contract modification (Option B) to develop an upgraded version of the Starship lander and fly a second crewed demonstration landing mission for Artemis IV.
      • Ongoing Development:
SpaceX continues to develop the Starship lunar lander under these contracts, with the goal of enabling regular crewed transportation to the lunar surface and establishing a long-term human presence under Artemis.

I think a more useful thing to do besides banning companies is to set up stronger rules on procurement and conflicts of interest -- stronger firewalls on decision making etc.

We actually have those on the procurement side. Right now though, there is someone on the government side apparently making decisions on contracts when he bids on contracts himself... At the non-political level, government ethics prohibits those kinds of conflicts of interest, but is apparently not enforced for political appointees. That ought to change.

    ======================
Elon Musk says shadowy “larger forces” are working to ensure his demise—and that of his automotive company Tesla—because of his role as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The billionaire Trump ally and Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the claims in an interview Tuesday with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

He spoke against a backdrop of vandalism and arson attacks against Tesla vehicles, which appear to be in response to DOGE’s efforts to slash the federal workforce.

Early on Tuesday, a Tesla facility in Las Vegas was set ablaze by an individual armed with a gun and Molotov cocktails, in what authorities said was a “targeted” attack. At least five Tesla vehicles were damaged.

“It’s really come as quite a shock to me that there is this level of, really, hatred and violence from the left,” Musk, the world’s richest person, told Hannity.

“I always thought that the left, you know, Democrats were supposed to be the party of empathy, the party of caring, and yet they’re burning down cars, firebombing dealerships, they’re firing bullets into dealerships, they’re smashing up Teslas. Tesla is a peaceful company.”

“We’ve never done anything harmful. I’ve never done anything harmful, I’ve only done productive things,” Musk went on.

“So I think we just have a deranged…there’s some kind of mental illness thing going on here because this doesn’t make any sense.”

Musk alleged there are “larger forces at work” targeting him and Tesla for his work at DOGE.

“I mean, who’s funding and who’s coordinating it? Because this is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

Hannity displayed one of Musk’s X posts from earlier that day which said: “This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong. Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”...............

In response to Musk’s claims, several astronauts took to X to refute the idea that the astronauts were purposefully abandoned. Andreas Mogensen, a former SpaceX astronaut from Denmark, posted: “What a lie. And from someone who complains about lack of honesty from the mainstream media.”

In response to Mogensen, Elon replied: “You are fully mentally challenged. SpaceX could have brought them back several months ago. I OFFERED THIS DIRECTLY to the Biden administration and they refused. Return WAS pushed back for political reasons. Idiot.”

Mogensen responded by stating, “Elon, I have long admired you and what you have accomplished, especially at SpaceX and Tesla. You know as well as I do, that Butch and Suni are returning with Crew-9, as has been the plan since last September. Even now, you are not sending up a rescue ship to bring them home. They are returning on the Dragon capsule that has been on ISS since last September.”
Known liar, needs to believed and worshipped!

Knew something was off with his claim because the contract specifically stated 17 launches so the launch are pretty much scheduled. Crew-10 was launch on March 14 a few days before Crew-9 returned.
Maybe we could ask the Russian to send their Soyuz but that maybe for future missions.

They also awarded Blue Origin 3+ billion and are working on enhancing the SLS for the Artemis program.
    NASA likes multiple suppliers.

I’m sure they also like this

“SpaceX has a high success rate for its Falcon 9 rockets, with a 99.35%success rate overall, and the Falcon 9 Block 5 has a 99.75% success rate. The Falcon 9 has been launched 463 times over 15 years, resulting in 460 full successes. ”

And the exquisite Dragon Capsules. Didn’t realize it can carry seven passengers.

BS. Musk isn’t integral to anything SpaceX has accomplished now or in the past.

Musk is a sociopath who needs to go. He’s a security threat to our country.

I'd think congress with the president could force Musk to sell Space X on national security grounds and him being a unacceptable security risk. They could also nationalize it, but that's unlikely when we're not at war. The president might be able to also do it via executive order on national security grounds, but that's likely more challengeable in court. Trump was trying it with Tiktok, but I'm not sure where that stands.
