    WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

    Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

    I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

    This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

    If prices jump in the US for oil and lumber from Canada or for fruits and vegetables from Mexico, no problem for Trump.

    Most Americans don’t understand how tariffs work, anyway. Trump will blame Canada and Mexico. And then threaten them with, say, 50% tariffs. Kaboom!

    Which brings us to the second technique Trump is using to expand his power: unpredictability.

    What makes an abusive parent or spouse, or an abusive dictator, or Trump, especially terrifying? They’re unpredictable. They lash out in ways that are hard to anticipate.

    So, anyone potentially affected by their actions gives them extra-wide berth – vast amounts of obedience in advance.

    Trump keeps everyone guessing.

    He demands Denmark sell Greenland to the United States. He chews out the CEO of the Bank of America at Davos for allegedly discriminating against conservatives. He attacks birthright citizenship.

    What’s next? Who knows? That’s the whole point.

    How else to explain the bizarre deference – cowardice – we’re seeing among CEOs, the media, almost all Republican and even some Democratic lawmakers?

    Presumably, they’re all saying to themselves: “He could do anything, so let’s be especially careful.”

    In 1517, Niccolò Machiavelli argued that sometimes it is “a very wise thing to simulate madness”.

    The “rule of law” is all about predictability. We need predictability to be free.

    But much of what Trump is doing is probably either illegal yet would require months or years before the US supreme court decides so, or is in the gray area of “probably illegal but untested by the courts”. Which suits his strategy just fine.

    The media calls it “chaos”, which is how various people and institutions experience it……..

    Some United States military women are fuming over the Air Force’s new uniform guidelines, which prevents them from wearing colored nail polish.

    Air Force Chief of Staff General David Allvin alerted military members of the guidelines in a memo on January 24, which was shared on an unofficial Facebook group about the Air Force.

    In the memo, Allvin noted that on February 1, the permitted colors of nail polish were being reduced from 60 to three, so only “clear, or French or American Manicure” were allowed.

    Female service members have since shared their candid thoughts about the new rule on social media, including one woman on TikTok named Elora Jean, who’s in the US Air Force.

    “The entire section about nail polish colors that women could or couldn’t wear in uniform is gone,” she said in a recent clip, before showcasing all the nail colors that were initially authorized in 2024 but are not anymore………

    Donald Trump Jr - son of President Donald Trump - is accused of breaking Italian and European Union environmental protection laws when he hunted rare ducks in December.

    According to two Italian Green party lawmakers, two separate parliamentary questions have been filed urging regional and national authorities to take action against the alleged offense.

    The questions were filed by Andrea Zanoni, a member of the Veneto regional assembly, and Luana Zanella, a national parliamentarian.

    In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Zanoni claimed he had seen footage of Trump Jr hunting in a "Natura 2000" European Union conservation zone in the Venice lagoon, standing near a dead ruddy shelduck, a protected species.

    "The video shows Trump Jr. with a ruddy shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea) in the foreground, a duck that is very rare in all of Europe and protected by the EU Birds Directive and by the Italian law on the protection of wild fauna ... The killing or holding of this animal is punishable by law," Zanoni said.……
