This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. public health officials have been told to stop working with the World Health Organization, effective immediately.

A U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official, John Nkengasong, sent a memo to senior leaders at the agency on Sunday night telling them that all agency staff who work with the WHO must immediately stop their collaborations and “await further guidance.”

Experts said the sudden stoppage was a surprise and would set back work on investigating and trying to stop outbreaks of Marburg virus and mpox in Africa, as well as brewing threats from around the world. It also comes as health authorities around the world are monitoring bird flu outbreaks among U.S. livestock.

The Associated Press viewed a copy of Nkengasong’s memo, which said the stop-work policy applied to “all CDC staff engaging with WHO through technical working groups, coordinating centers, advisory boards, cooperative agreements or other means — in person or virtual.” It also says CDC staff are not allowed to visit WHO offices……….

What are they trying to hide....

This pandemic is moving too slow. We need a hero to speed things up.

What else should we expect. These people showed during the last pandemic that they are incredibly ignorant when it come to science and viral transmission and medicine.

Becoming a public-health expert means learning how to envision humanity’s worst-case scenarios for infectious disease. For decades, though, no one in the U.S. has had to consider the full danger of some of history’s most devastating pathogens.

Widespread vaccination has eliminated several diseases—among them, measles, polio, and rubella—from the country, and helped keep more than a dozen others under control. But in the past few years, as childhood-vaccination rates have dipped nationwide, some of infectious disease’s ugliest hypotheticals have started to seem once again plausible.

The new Trump administration has only made the outlook more tenuous. Should Robert F. Kennedy Jr., one of the nation’s most prominent anti-vaccine activists, be confirmed as the next secretary of Health and Human Services, for instance, his actions could make a future in which diseases resurge in America that much more likely.

His new position would grant him substantial power over the FDA and the CDC, and he is reportedly weighing plans—including one to axe a key vaccine advisory committee—that could prompt health-care providers to offer fewer shots to kids, and inspire states to repeal mandates for immunizations in schools. (Kennedy’s press team did not respond to a request for comment.)

Kennedy’s goal, as he has said, is to offer people more choice, and many Americans likely would still enthusiastically seek out vaccines. Most Americans support childhood vaccination and vaccine requirements for schools; a KFF poll released today found, though, that even in the past year the proportion of parents who say they skipped or delayed shots for their children has risen, to one in six.

The more individuals who choose to eschew vaccination, the closer those decisions would bring society’s collective defenses to cracking. The most visceral effects might not be obvious right away. For some viruses and bacteria to break through, the country’s immunization rates may need to slip quite a bit.

But for others, the gap between no outbreak and outbreak is uncomfortably small. The dozen experts I spoke with for this story were confident in their pessimism about how rapidly epidemics might begin.

Paul Offit, a pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and co-inventor of one of the two rotavirus vaccines available in the U.S., needs only to look at his own family to see the potential consequences. His parents were born into the era of the deadly airway disease diphtheria; he himself had measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox, and risked contracting polio.

Vaccination meant that his own kids didn’t have to deal with any of these diseases. But were immunization rates to fall too far, his children’s children very well could. Unlike past outbreaks, those future epidemics would sweep across a country that, having been free of these diseases for so long, is no longer equipped to fight them.

“Yeah,” Offit said when I asked him to paint a portrait of a less vaccinated United States. “Let’s go into the abyss.”

Should vaccination rates drop across the board, one of the first diseases to be resurrected would almost certainly be measles. Experts widely regard the viral illness, which spreads through the air, as the most infectious known pathogen.

Before the measles vaccine became available in 1963, the virus struck an estimated 3 million to 4 million Americans each year, about 1,000 of whom would suffer serious swelling of the brain and roughly 400 to 500 of whom would die. Many survivors had permanent brain damage. Measles can also suppress the immune system for years, leaving people susceptible to other infections..............

What an Undervaccinated America Would Look Like

I read that, today, Kennedy stated that 30 million babies are born in the U.S. each year.

……..Kennedy has long held support among naturopaths, the supplement industry, homesteaders and the Christian back-to-the-landmovement – many of whom distrust not only vaccines but modern medicine.

“This is our shot,” Karen Howard said she kept thinking about Kennedy’s nomination. She is executive director of the Organic and Natural Health Association, a trade group for the “nutraceuticals” and supplement industry. The group endorsed Kennedy in late January.

“No administration has ever publicly supported what we do – ever,” said Howard. She said she “never” envisioned an administration like Trump’s putting up a nominee friendly to her businesses, and that she feels being “neither” Republican nor Democrat “benefits the work I do”.

Labrada Gore, Fewell and Howard illustrate a potent new mix of wellness and conservatism – people who have adopted the alternative lifestyles once associated with the left, politically support the right, and advocate for a mix of the unobjectionable and potentially harmful.

“It used to be seen as the whole hippie, left-leaning movement from the 60s, which is funny, because homesteading doesn’t have anything to do with politics – until it does,” Fewell said.

Howard also recognized that “we definitely are on the fringe on this” in endorsing Kennedy. “We are not mainstream even amongst our own peer organizations.”

Influencers such Labrada Gore push for less screen time, more exercise, and fewer chemicals, dyes and preservatives in the food supply. Other favored causes are implacably resistant to evidence of potential harm – such as unregulated supplements, raw milk and vaccine refusal.

Like a growing minority of Republicans – about 20%, according to Gallup – Labrada Gore now believes vaccines are more dangerous than the diseases they are designed to prevent.

“They’re more dangerous,” she said, acknowledging this is a “spicy” perspective – the overwhelming majority of Americans still support childhood vaccinations.

Her theory is that vaccines go “directly into your bloodstream” and “giving it an easy path to bypass the body’s defenses”.

She then espoused what many researchers regard as a fraught misunderstanding of the danger of measles, a disease rarely encountered now by Americans. Measles was declared eliminated from the US in 2000, but has since made a resurgence amid vaccine hesitancy.

“Some diseases like measles – they are kind of natural rites of passage, I would say, for children to develop naturally. It’s like a hurdle, and when they do they are stronger afterward,” said Labrada Gore…………

If I’m not mistaken, I read that a surprising percentage of raw milk contains the H5N1 virus already. And we can rest assured that any agency led by RFK, Jr and Trump will do exactly the wrong things.

We should prepare as if we will have another pandemic within the next 4 years. Chances are that we will.

I also just read that we are having another spike in Covid currently. People are not getting the new vaccine as they should.
Why is there a good chance of a pandemic? Curious

The real shock comes when people realize that classical childhood diseases don’t just pose a risk to children—adults can also suffer severe complications.

For example, a pregnant woman who contracts chickenpox faces not only the risk of miscarriage but also the possibility of serious birth defects, including brain damage, deafness, or blindness in the fetus.

An adult man who contracts mumps risks becoming sterile.

Several of these so-called childhood illnesses can also lead to encephalitis in adults, a potentially life-threatening condition with lasting neurological effects.

By choosing not to vaccinate children, the danger extends beyond them—it also puts vulnerable adults in their families at risk. This includes those who were never vaccinated and even vaccinated individuals, as immunity to diseases like measles and chickenpox can wane over time.

Why is there a good chance of a pandemic? Curious
Because H5N1 virus in unpastorized milk have already shown to be able to infect people and in one case they suspect a person-person infection. That is the first step towards a pandemic since no one will have any natural immunity towards the H5N1 virus..

Not taking a Zoo born virus seriously is just what happened in China with Covid.

Why is there a good chance of a pandemic? Curious
H5N1 can infect humans and is pretty deadly so far. We have animal to human transmission happening. If it mutates just a little bit it can gain the ability to transmit human to human and that’s all it will take.

And we’re putting someone in charge of HHS who thinks the polio vaccine didn’t get rid of polio as a health threat in the US.

Robert F Kennedy Jr is many things, but he is not a tropical fish. Someone should probably tell him this because he appears to be guzzling fish medicine.

Last week, a video of RFK sitting on a plane and putting a strange blue liquid into his glass of water went viral. It’s not clear what he was taking, but online sleuths are convinced it was methylene blue, which is used to treat parasites in fish as well as aquatic ailments such as swim bladder disease.

To be fair, methylene blue does have human uses – in the US, it is FDA-approved to treat a rare blood disorder.

Over the last few years, however, it has been touted as a miracle drug in wellness circles and people have been using it off-label in the hopes of staving off everything from jet lag to ageing.

“Looks like RFK Jr is in on one of the best-kept secrets in biohacking – methylene blue,” wrote one prominent wellness influencer after the viral video. “When used correctly, it’s a gamechanger for mental clarity and longevity.”

That’s a stretch. While some studies show methylene blue may help with those things, self-medicating is a bad idea. Too much of the stuff can turn your urine blue, for one thing.

More importantly, it can interact with certain medications, which can have serious consequences……

It's also been suggested that vaccines can boost the immune system beyond the specific diseases that they are intended for. The Small Pox vaccine for instance, showed some improvements on other diseases besides just Small Pox, because it primed the immune system to be on the lookout for pathogens. It's called immune fitness.

We're entering a phase where half of the population has vaccine hesitency and we're likely going to have a health secretary who doesn't like vaccines. It's a setup to create lots of bodies who are refusing vaccines and priming their bodies to be breeding grounds for variants.

If I'm being honest, if those who are having vaccine hestitency are the ones hit hardest by a new pandemic, so be it. Darwinism at work.

It won’t be limited to the vaccine-crazies though. The rampant spread through them will allow for a more rapid pace of mutations which will render any existing vaccines less effective on a quicker time frame.
