This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

A survey supported by Solar Energy UK has found that solar farms deliver significant biodiversity gains and have the potential to offer even more.

Conducted in collaboration with ecological consultancies Clarkson & Woods and Wychwood Biodiversity, the ‘Solar Habitat 2024: Ecological trends on solar farms in the UK’ study found that solar farms can become “safe havens for biodiversity” and play an “important role” in nature restoration.

The study analysed a total of 87 solar sites in 2023 employing a standardised methodology, which Solar Energy UK helped develop alongside Lancaster University in 2022.

Their findings revealed that vulnerable and red-listed species, such as skylarks, are among the most common wildlife present on UK solar farms.

Yellowhammers, linnets and starlings – all red-listed bird species – were also present at the observed solar sites.

On the ground, brown hares, a species under conservation concern, made up 40% of mammal observations across the 87 observed sites.

The report also included a number of case studies which found that it is possible to grow chamomile for commercial use between solar panel rows – an effective application of the concept of ‘agri-PV’.

Additionally, the report found that planting plugs and pot-grown plants underneath the solar modules have an 80% better survival rate after two years than sowing seeds. The most successful of these were wild garlic and bluebells.

Report analyst Hollie Blaydes, PhD researcher at Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University, said: “Our understanding of biodiversity at solar farms is growing as more ecological monitoring data are collected across an increasing number of UK solar farms. Groups such as birds and invertebrates appear to respond positively to biodiversity-focused management at solar farms and we hope to continue working with the data

On another note - We're getting a solar farm less than half a km from where we live. It is going to be a 5 acre solar farm combined with a biodiversity program rewilding marginal farm fields

Just to add some objective data to this, let's be polite and just say, overly simplistic idea, if we did actually halve the population of the planet, that would take us all the way back to the population levels we had in... 1974.

Without addressing what makes population a problem - how people live in an unsustainable way - even the insane notion of killing half of humanity would only take us back less than fifty years.

Conversely, if people were living sustainably, we wouldn't need to halve the population in the first place. Hence, that's where the attention should be, and largely is, albeit to a still insufficient degree.

Donald Trump’s promise to upend public health policy across the US by installing Robert F Kennedy Jr as health secretary is resonating in Florida, where experts say the nation can learn from its own experience of a vaccine-denying state surgeon with unorthodox scientific views.

Like Kennedy’s relationship with the incoming president, Dr Joseph Ladapo was championed by, and is closely aligned to, a powerful rightwing political leader – Ron DeSantis, Florida’s Republican governor.

Since Ladapo’s February 2022 swearing-in, he has been at the heart of several controversies. Some have included advising parents to send unvaccinated children to school during a measles outbreak, personally manipulating a study to try to show Covid-19 vaccines pose a greater health risk than they do and urging municipalities to remove fluoride from drinking water despite proven dental health benefits.


His fringe opinions, and public guidance often in direct contravention of that from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are parallel to those of Kennedy, an equally polarizing figure who has peddled numerous conspiracy theories including the discredited link between vaccines and autism, promoted raw milk and denigrated the pharmaceutical industry.
