I'm sure polls won't change no matter what happens but I am hoping that Kamala absolutely destroys Trump with a healthy helping of petty bait designed to make him lose his mind and goad him into saying something unfortunate

I've said this before but I hope there is some fact checking thins time and Trump isn't allowed to rant about after birth abortions, immigrants eating cats, and lunchtime sex change operations for 3rd graders

While Donald Trump made baseless, dangerous claims that immigrants in Ohio were eating people’s pets in front of millions of viewers at Tuesday night’s presidential debate, Johnson Salomon, a Haitian man who moved to Springfield in 2020, was watching cartoons with his kids before putting them to bed.

He got a text from a friend telling him to turn on the debate. When he saw the headlines about what the former president and Republican nominee in November’s election had said, he was in total shock.

“This was a false claim. I couldn’t believe that such a high official could make such a claim,” Salomon said.


Trump’s running mate JD Vance, Elon Musk and prominent Ohio Republicans had already spread the false rumors, lying about how Haitian immigrants had been killing and eating people’s pets in Springfield, a blue-collar town of 60,000 people in western Ohio.

But the rumors, leaving Salomon and other Haitians in fear of being targeted for violence and discrimination, didn’t start with them.

They were initially spread online in August on social platforms used by far-right extremists and by Blood Tribe, a neo-Nazi hate group.

Springfield officials and police say they have received no credible reports of pets being harmed by members of the immigrant community, instead suggesting the story may have originated in Canton, Ohio, where an American woman with no known connection to Haiti was arrested in August for allegedly stomping a cat to death and eating the animal.

But that hasn’t prevented Republican party politicians from scapegoating Springfield’s 15,000 Haitian immigrants as Trump and others attempt to propel immigration to the center of their fall political campaigns.

In addition to Tuesday’s debate, Trump held a news conference Friday in which he rambled without evidence about how Haitians had descended on Springfield “and destroyed the place”.…..

But the glut of new arrivals has also stretched hospitals and schools in the area, angering many locals who resented their presence. The outragereached a crescendo last August, when an 11-year-old boy was thrown from a school bus and killed after its driver swerved to avoid an oncoming car driven by a Haitian immigrant who didn’t have an Ohio driver’s license.

The child’s death fueled anger and racism on Facebook and at Springfield city commission meetings, where public comments about immigration have often run for more than an hour. Locals upset by the growing immigrant community wondered if they were being taken over – if Springfield had become ground zero for the baseless “great replacement theory”.

Soon, rightwing extremists seized on Springfield’s unrest.


Armed neo-Nazi members of Blood Tribe – a hardcore white supremacist group, according to the Anti-Defamation League – flew flags bearing swastikas and marched through a prominent downtown street while a jazz and blues festival was taking place nearby in August.

One witness to the march, who declined to be interviewed by the Guardian due to fearing for their family’s safety after being doxed by rightwing extremists online, reported thatmembers of the group pointed guns at cars and told people to “go the fork back to Africa”.

A Springfield police representative, however, appeared to downplay the scene, telling local media that the hate group’s march was “just a little peaceful protest”.

Several days later, a leading member of Blood Tribe who identified himself as Nathaniel Higgers, but whose real name is Drake Berentz, spoke at a Springfield city commission meeting.

“I’ve come to bring a word of warning. Stop what you’re doing before it’s too late,” Berentz toldSpringfield’s mayor, Rob Rue. “Crime and savagery will only increase with every Haitian you bring in.”…….

“Blood Tribe celebrated Donald Trump bringing up the [immigrants killing cats] lie during the debate,” said Maria Bruno of Ohioans Against Extremism, a non-profit founded last month in part due to a rising presence of extremists in Ohio. “They are thrilled that there are politicians willing to echo their talking points.”……….

This is eye-opening. If the media can gang up on Biden, they should be doing more reporting of this.

There definitely has been a double standard. It’s a poor excuse to say Trump’s got a following so we’ll treat him as a serious candidate, versus spending everyday calling him out for what he is, a mentally deficient, malignant, threat to our democracy. And after he’s defeated, we should be looking at the millions who think he was a good candidate. Not for retribution, but to better understand why and possibly change some minds. This base is the cancer, Trump is just the boil that appeared on the surface.

Yesterday I was in our not quite supermarket. There was an old codger in there who if asked how he was, he would very loudly exclain, NOT SO GOOD, they're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats. And he would go on and on about it.

That was fun.

So I walked over to him and asked him how he was doing. Then when he was in another asile I asked him again, "how are you doing." Again, we met in the checkout lane so of course I asked him how he was doing.

Trump posted on truth social that he won't debate Harris again. Didn't see the actual post, just reports on it.

Really weak.

I hope Harris really pushes for another debate. I think America deserves it. Hopefully a town hall.

And if not, at least she can poke him for being a wuss.

Probably one of the few smart moves the Trump campaign has made.

I know Trump was wrong but Germany has no business bragging about their energy policy at this point. Our energy bills are up 400-500 percent over just a few years....and there seems to be no relief in sight.

From afar, I've been very impressed with German governance, so I was surprised that they made decision to close their nuclear plants seemingly in reaction to the Fukushima accident. I don't keep up with Germany, but I thought that decision got reversed, but it probably caused some of the energy price spikes. What do you think caused the spike?

Closing nuclear plants definitely was a factor. Then came COVID. Then Ukraine. We get most of our oil from Russia so that was a whole thing when the war started. Most houses are heated with oil so suddenly it became super expensive to keep warm in winter.

The issue with closing the nuclear plants is there was no plan to replace than energy. so even before COVID our energy bills doubled....I wish it stopped there...we didn't know how good we had it haha.

Between this and the housing crisis it has become a VERY expensive place to live compared to the salary levels. They don't seem to have any desire to fix either issue.

We are lucky to have higher than average salaries so we aren't struggling. Still, due to this and other issues we are planning to move ASAP to another country. Looking now into how we can make that happen.
