I think this topic deserves its own thread, both to discuss generally the topic of government efficiency, and specifically the so-called 'Department of Government Efficiency' and the incoming Trump administration's aims to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies".

The announcements have been covered in the The Trump Cabinet and key post thread, but to recap, Trump has announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will work together on a not-actually-an-official-government-Department of Government Efficiency, which is intended to work with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to "drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before," with the 'Department' to conclude its work "no later than July 4, 2026."

Musk has previously said that the federal budget could be reduced by "at least $2 trillion", and Ramaswarmy, during his presidential campaign, said he would fire more than 75% of the federal work force and disband agencies including the Department of Education and the FBI.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a Florida version of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), following the federal government’s steps to eliminate “waste, fraud and abuse” but on the state level.

The governor said over a one-year term the state will attempt to sunset 70 state boards and commissions, cut 900 positions, require universities to undergo independent reviews and audits and look into local government expenditures.

“I’m excited about this effort to take some of what we’ve seen in Washington that they’re doing with Elon Musk and apply it to Florida,” DeSantis said at a press conference in Tampa on Monday.

Musk and the Trump Administration's DOGE have made drastic cuts to the federal government, firing thousands of probational and full-time employees from the Department of Education, Small Business Administration and the Energy Department, the Department of Defense, among others.

Florida already has a Government Efficiency Task Force approved by statewide voters in 2006 as part of a state constitutional amendment and "is required to meet every four years for the purpose of developing recommendations to improve governmental operations and reduce costs."

DeSantis also used his time at the lectern to blast the Biden administration for its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and criticize the federal government’s spending practices, saying, “You see what they need to do in Washington to try to right the ship. If they just make America operate like Florida, we will be OK.”

The governor, who said the state will accomplish its goals with the help of artificial intelligence, said the audits would be the “DOGE-ing of the state university system.”

Moreover, DeSantis said the state would conduct a deep dive of university operations and spending, including debt and financial management practices. It will also include examining course catalogues and staff to “ensure that Florida students are receiving an education that will best equip them to gain meaningful employment after graduation.”..........

Donald Trump’s administration doesn’t know, or won’t say, even in a courtroom when confronted by a judge, who is running the so-called U.S. DOGE Service, which Elon Muskand his team of engineers are using to wreak havoc across federal agencies.

During a hearing in Washington, D.C. on DOGE’s access to Department of Treasury records on Monday, government lawyers couldn’t answer whether an administrator for the agency even exists.

“Is there an administrator of DOGE at the present time?” asked Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.

“I don’t know the answer to that,” Department of Justice trial counsel Bradley Humphreys replied.

The question is the latest failed attempt to get, on the record, a clear understanding of the role of the world’s wealthiest man within the Trump administration, which is deploying Musk to gut federal agencies of thousands of workers and block the transfer of congressionally approved funds in a crusade against “waste” and “fraud” with little evidence to show for it.

A breakneck effort to hold the administration accountable in court has been met with what appears to be a rapid attempt among administration officials and government lawyers to obfuscate the true nature of Musk’s role.

Last week, a judge in a separate case noted that DOGE is trying to “escape” the “obligations that accompany agencyhood” — including being subject to the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act and the Administrative Procedures Act — “while reaping only its benefits.”………

We saw Sandhill Cranes flying North today, (we see them everyday that we actually look this time of year). Thousands of them. We can easily see 4 Bald Eagle nests within a short drive of our home, and one Great Blue Heron rookery. All from the road, you don’t have to go on a hike to see them. We see the birds themselves regularly. Canada Geese are ubiquitous in our town. Bluebirds are common now.

None of the above birds were evident to me growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. The environmental movement has been a smashing success. It should be celebrated, not dismantled.

What the video suggest is that you put an embedded code in the email response ( if you use a white font it wont be visible) that messes with the data collection. Usually that kind of stuff is used by spammers and should definitely not be used in an email like this even if it only collects the data in the reply.

If the judges are so concerned and haven't gotten a straight answer, why haven't they put and injunction on DOGE for acting in any capacity and issued a subpoena for the director of DOGE to appear in their court before it is lifted? DOGE is clearly carrying out illegal actions and lying to the court, somebody needs to put a roadblock in the way until it stops.

This entire thing is so stupid. They are going to blow up the deficit just like Trump did before and then there is a decent chance Trump’s tariffs and other policies re-awaken inflation, and we end up in a recession this time.
