I think this topic deserves its own thread, both to discuss generally the topic of government efficiency, and specifically the so-called 'Department of Government Efficiency' and the incoming Trump administration's aims to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies".

The announcements have been covered in the The Trump Cabinet and key post thread, but to recap, Trump has announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will work together on a not-actually-an-official-government-Department of Government Efficiency, which is intended to work with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to "drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before," with the 'Department' to conclude its work "no later than July 4, 2026."

Musk has previously said that the federal budget could be reduced by "at least $2 trillion", and Ramaswarmy, during his presidential campaign, said he would fire more than 75% of the federal work force and disband agencies including the Department of Education and the FBI.

I’m seeing some coms to this effect: OPM does not supervise the entire executive branch. Each agency would have to confirm and instruct their staff to follow it.

DoD has told their employees NOT respond

NASA is very happy with the results from Spacex. Transport to and from the space station. Space Station resupply. The Dragon capsules. Reusable rockets. Starship HLS for Artemis III.

Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. 450 launches. 99.34% success rate.
The problem isn’t past performance. The problem is he will be able to manipulate future contract awards. Previously he had to compete. It’s assinine. Would you put out bids for anything, then hire one of the bidders to choose the winner?

No one is going to personally read the responses to those emails—they'll all be fed through AI, scanning for specific keywords. You know, the "forbidden" ones: environment, protection, caring, immigrants, safety. And who knows? They might even cross-reference the results with the employee’s race or gender (which raises the question—why does the U.S. even register race? As a European, that in itself seems divisive; we're all just humans).

If enough "buzzwords" are flagged, that employee would be fired. This isn't just surveillance; it's pure Big Brother and outright fascism.

NASA’s whole history is private suppliers.

So now you think he has shut off Starlink multiple times.

But when a single supplier dominates the market—and Musk is now in a position to eliminate all competition—it creates a dangerous monopoly. This lack of competition gives him unprecedented leverage, allowing him to wield that power for both financial and political gain.

He has already demonstrated that he is willing to shut down services that were paid for and contractually agreed upon for political reasons. With NASA facing funding cuts, his influence has only grown. If you believe he wouldn’t use this power for his own benefit, you’re being truly naive.

Elon has doomed all of his ventures that use large government inflows of capital.

Any future Democratic adminstration will cut him off at the kneecap. He has no respect for American democracy.

All of his companies will be blacklisted from government contracts, and not allowed to bid.

Sendai also once again proving he doesn't even understand the conversation.

The dude is hated. He did a Nazi saulte, and then tried to coup the government. No one cares about SpaceX performance.
