I think we need a new thread just about this guy. It seems like every day brings new awfulness.

George Santos, and Trump for that matter, are not your run-of-the-mill political liars. They are pathological, unwell, possibly sociopaths. We can’t keep pretending they are not mentally ill.
That gets back to the whole Dark Knight 2008 analogy scene where Albert tells Bruce Wayne/Batman that perhaps he doesn't understand the Joker's mindset and motivation and why because of how successful Batman was in cleaning up crime, disrupting arms/drug trafficking, money laundering these mob crime bosses were so desperate that in their desperation, they turned to an edgy, political novice, authoritian demagogue with no experience that they didnt fully or truly understand and because he seemed to have the right mojo, rhetoric, alarming, but enough to make them have a chance at winning the POTUS in 2016. The GOP had run two, highly-qualified, well-respected, moderate candidates in 2008 and 2012, respectively and while Romney fared better, they were both desicively beaten and the impression, wrong one, was that moderate, likable candidates couldn't or wouldn't ever win Presidential elections.

So, they were desperate, just like those mob bosses at the beginning of Dark Knight, and in turning to someone who was highly unorthodox and dangerous, but who initially succeeded, many in the GOP leadership felt they couldn't turn back and admit 6-7 years ago they were wrong. Probably a pride or massive over-inflated collective ego trip complex.

I’m sure this would be Comer’s opinion if a Democrat had done the exact same thing
    ===============================

The New York Republican congressman George Santos, whose résumé has been shown to be largely fictional and whose campaign finances are the subject of increasing scrutiny, is a “bad guy” who has done “really bad” things but should not be forced to resign, the new House oversight committee chair said on Sunday.

James Comer of Kentucky appeared on CNN’s State of the Union. He was asked if Santos should quit.

He said: “He’s a bad guy. This is something that you know, it’s really bad … but look, George Santos was a duly elected by the people. He’s going to be … examined thoroughly. It’s his decision whether or not he should resign.”

Saying Santos was “not the first politician unfortunately to be in Congress to lie”, Comer aimed a barb at Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic senator from Massachusetts whose claim of Native American ancestry was widely questioned………

That would depend upon if how big or small the Democratic control of Congress or Senate would be under such scenario. Its all about knowing and realizing that if Santos was kicked out, censured, or removed, Gov. Kathy Hochul would appoint or call another special election to replace Santos' vacant Congressional seat in a heavily blue, Democratic region? Which means GOP's Congressional lead would be down to 7 or 8(?), if Comer framed his answer from that vantage point, maybe we can call him or other Republicans cowards, but at least the MSM couldn't label them as dishonest or lying.

Right... they'd call them dishonest lying cowards instead.

This isn't completely accurate. Hochul cannot appoint anyone to a seat in the House. That power is reserved only to vacant Senate seats. The only option is a special election. Plus, that district is not "heavily blue." It's one of the newly redrawn districts that is more purple due to the Republican precincts added despite it being considered a Biden district. But as mentioned, the fear is the possibility of the Dems winning the seat back.

Jon Stewart says that when it comes to new Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), the public shouldn’t “mistake absurdity for lack of danger.”

“That’s the beauty of his lies, is you wouldn’t even think to check because it’s just so stupid,” the former “Daily Show” host said of Santos on his Apple podcast “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” released Wednesday.

Several lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called on Santos to resign after he admitted multiple fabrications about his work history and education. Critics have raised questions about everything from Santos’s campaign finances, to his family history, to accusations that he took money raised for a veteran’s dying dog as part of a fundraising campaign.

Stewart’s remarks came a day after the House GOP Steering Committee recommended that the controversial congressman sit on two House panels: the Small Business Committee and Science, Space and Technology Committee.

“I really think that the reason why his scandal — people shout about it and things, but nobody really cares — is because of how he looks,” Stewart said.

“Everything about [Santos] screams of just mediocrity,” the Apple TV+ host said.

“He’s not obese. He’s not skinny. He’s everything in the middle,” Stewart continued.

But, the comedian warned, “The thing we have to be careful of — and I always caution myself on this and I ran into this trouble with [former President] Trump — is we cannot mistake absurdity for lack of danger.”

“It takes people with no shame to do shameful things,” Stewart said.

“Absurdity is where the real danger always is,” he added................

A new report has found that while RepublicanCongressman George Santos was reportedly still married to a woman, he invited friends over to celebrate his engagement to a man.

In a 2014 Facebook "engagement dinner" invitation, Mr Santos — or Anthony Devolder, depending on the day — invited his friends to celebrate his engagement to someone who wasn’t his wife, The Daily Beast reports.

"Good evening everyone! As you all may already know Pedro and I have decided to join our toothbrushes! Lol and a very few friends have been selected to share this special moment with us," Mr Santos wrote in the invitation.

Mr Santos and his wife would not divorce until five years later.

The Daily Beast learned of the invitation from Mr Santos’ old roommate, Greg Morey-Parker. Pedro Vilarva, the man mentioned in the invitation, also confirmed that Mr Santos planned the celebration……
