(CNN)Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality, is running for the US Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican, according to an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative Washington Examiner.

"During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That's why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal," Oz wrote……

i know...send him to one of the new jungle survival tv shows. tuff that one out 'doc'.
yah send him to do "Alone".

no he sure doesnt want them referring to him by his real turkish name: mehmet cengiz oz.
we dont want to remind the RW voters about his heritage or how he got here.
    you know...migrating.

his parents 'emigrated' here. he was raised "in a mixed muslim environment" which would certainly please his repub voters wouldnt it?....he went back to live there, he also did two years in
the turkish military...to maintain his "dual citizenship". (wiki mehmet oz.)

    well then.

I think that may be part of it

But I think it’s probably more about celebrity

Someone says “Dr Oz is running for Senate” you know exactly who they’re talking about

When someone says “Mehmet Oz is running for Senate” you may say “who’s mehmet Oz?

i think theres only one "Oz" in our current depiction of orbit. i doubt theres many who
dont see him when hearing the word since he was using it on teevee for the last
    decade or more.
he srsly doesnt want 'muslim' attached to his name or his full name.

its like he's running a con....whered he learn how to do that. hmmmmm....
why its the repub way. con this con that. conitall.

I always thought Dr.Oz was a clown, especially after that whole green bean extract scam he was promoting on his show like 10 or so years ago.

I expect he’ll be hammered on that

Wonder if he’ll try to avoid debates too

Looks like the Juneteenth thread deleted, so I'll put this here
    ==============================

Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz, endorsed last month in Pennsylvania by ex-President Donald Trump, deleted the word "equality" from a post he wrote on Truth Social in celebration of Juneteenth, according to Ron Filipkowski, a lawyer who closely tracks the right.

The original post—reading "Our country is better because of our freedoms, our unity, and our equality. #Juneteenth."—was replaced by a nearly identical one without "equality."

Juneteenth, celebrated every year on June 19, commemorates a crucial moment in African-American history when Union soldiers marched into Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to control the state and inform the remaining slaves that they were free. There were 250,000 enslaved people in Texas at the time, according to a report by the nonprofit Pew Charitable Trusts.

The edit to Oz's post sparked outrage among some Twitter users.

"So tell us why you dropped 'equality' from your Juneteenth post on Truth Social??? You're against equality? What do you think is a black person's 'place' then?" wrote @broadwayterry.

@jaguar_quetzal added: "Did you run this Tweet past your GOP masters to make sure they weren't offended by anything like the word, 'equality,' in your Juneteenth tweet, or were you a bwave widdle boy and just went ahead without checking in?"

"Dr. Oz takes out 'equality' from Juneteenth as a shout out to his white supremacists," added @BlueDash12.............

The website for Mehmet Oz’s campaign to become U.S. Senator representing Pennsylvania is currently devoid of any imagery of former President Donald Trump.

Normally that’s not a terribly newsworthy observation, but as the eagle-eyed folks at Axios have noted, past Trump branding and imagery of Oz and the former president together have been scrubbed from the site in what is a clear shift in campaign strategy.

Is this a proper distancing by the television host from Trump, whose endorsement appeared to play a key role in his tightly fought primary victory? Or is it standard political repositioning in advance of a general election?

Either way, it’s noteworthy, particularly as Trump faces new criticism from former political allies for a myriad of reasons.

Writing for Axios, Andrew Solender reports (in signature bullet point style):

    • After the endorsement, Trump was a near-ubiquitous fixture in Oz’s spots — even a series of six-second issue ads on guns, abortion and energy began with “endorsed by President Trump.”
    • Oz’s Twitter account mentioned Trump more than 70 times between the endorsement on April 9 and primary day, May 17.
    • On Google and Facebook, Oz’s campaign bought a barrage of Trump-focused ads during the primary.=
    • Both his Facebook and Twitter accounts were emblazoned during the primary with a cover photo of Trump and Oz with the words “endorsed by Trump,” and his website had a pop-up to let visitors know he was “Trump-endorsed.”

Cynical, just do anything to get elected move.

Ahead of the Pennsylvania's Senate election on November 8, newly released polls currently show Democratic candidate John Fetterman holding a slight advantage over his Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Earlier this year, Fetterman, who currently serves as Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, won the state's Democratic Senate primary, defeating fellow Democratic candidate Conor Lamb. Similarly, Oz defeated David McCormick, a former hedge fund CEO in the state's Republican Senate primary, following a recount of votes. The winner of the race between the two candidates will fill a vacancy left by current Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey, who announced that he is retiring after his current term.

A recent survey conducted by Blueprint Polling, found Fetterman holding a 9.3 percent lead over Oz as 48.9 percent of respondents said they support the Democratic candidate while 39.6 percent sided with the Republican...........

Fetterman winning is horrible for republicans, especially with Warnock leading the polls in Georgia. There are only 14 democrat senate seats up for election in November, and 9 of them are pretty solid locks for democrats. If Fetterman and Warnock win, that means that republicans would have to win 2 of the remaining 4 seats (Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and New Hampshire). Colorado leans a bit democrat, so that means that republicans are looking at having to win 2 out of 3 to get a majority, and are facing the real possibility of losing ground in the senate.

…..The Intelligencer Slack room lit up. Jokes were made. Quick and healthy recipes were shared. People reminisced about their favorite political food controversies. And many questions were asked.

Some of these questions were personal, like “Why were we served so many disgusting steamed veggies as children?”

But most focused on the political malpractice of Oz’s video, in which he attempts to score points against his Democratic rival John Fetterman by highlighting inflation but instead draws attention to his not exactly relatable lifestyle.

    Who thought this was relatable?

“Are crudités a big deal in PA or something?” one co-worker asked. It seems the answer is no — it is not a secret Keystone State delicacy.

Someone on Dr. Oz’s team just decided that repeating the word was the best way to combat the narrative that he’s a celebrity carpetbagger who actually lives in New Jersey.

Do none of the political consultants working on Oz’s campaign remember the time Republicans mercilessly bullied Mitt Romney for merely knowing basic French?

Why are we talking about this now?

Dr. Oz originally posted his inflation lament to Twitter on April 6, but it rocketed around social media on Monday. “Wegners,” where Oz claimed to be shopping, was trending in the U.S. on Monday morning, and “crudite” was a breakout search term on Google.

Fetterman, who recently returned to the campaign trail after suffering a stroke in May, tried to capitalize on the tweet’s revival.

Do people even know what “crudités” are?

Fetterman raised a key point. As a person whose go-to daytime programming was once The Martha Stewart Show, I certainly know the fancy term for “veggies and dip.”

But a quick poll of my co-workers at New York suggests it may not be common knowledge. “This is the first time I’ve ever heard the word,” revealed one Washington, D.C.–based Intelligencer columnist. So the Oz video manages to alienate not just average Pennsylvania voters but coastal media elites as well.

    Did he mispronounce “Wegman’s”?

Yes and no. In the video, Oz clearly says he’s at “Wegners,” which does not appear to exist. Many assumed he was shopping at the popular grocery chain Wegman’s and got the name slightly wrong.

But Pennsylvanians on Twitter said he was actually at a Redner’s grocery store. You can see a bit of the Redner’s sign right above Oz’s head, and the same salsa appears on the store’s website…….
