Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

Leaving aside the problems the DOJ will face in a criminal prosecution, We have been here before.

Ford pardoned Nixon and allowed the nation to move forward. it was the right call.

But the Dems of 2022 don't want to move forward. They need Trump as the eternal Goldstein.

The blather about accountability rings hollow when you consider Hillary's mishandling of thousands of classified emails and the Biden family's grift.

And spare me the, "But Trump!". Yes, what Trump did was bad. So stipulated. Now move on. Dot org.
So, we now know you’re not exactly reality based, lol. Hillary didn’t mishandle ”thousands of classified emails” did she? I’m pretty sure it was maybe a few, less than ten, which got accidentally attached to an email chain(s). And the “Biden family grift” is just a right wing fever dream. Joe Biden’s tax returns are public, and have been so for decades. He left the Senate as one of the poorest senators in the chamber. It‘s a huge lie to get partisans like you all riled up.

We have a very different situation with Trump than we had with Nixon. Trump continues to challenge the bedrock of American democracy - our free and fair elections. He continues to push outright lies about our institutions and wants to subvert our ability to govern ourselves. Nixon was forced to leave the political scene, and rightly so. Today’s Republican Party doesn’t have the moral backbone to insist Trump do the same, and Trump is 10x the criminal Nixon ever was.

Trump is forcing the DOJ’s hand here. Garland probably would rather not prosecute Trump, but he’s leaving Garland little choice. The criming is so blatant that it has to be done.

Not so cut and dried. I think it's a little more attached and wet than that.

Good luck proving what Trump "knew" and when he knew it.

And even if he did "know" the votes had been certified, it's still not illegal to ask if any more votes can be found.
So, I don’t think you have listened to the tape, have you? Raffensperger told Trump that the vote counts were accurate. Trump then suggested to Raffensperger that there’s nothing wrong with just saying you recalculated. Lol. Trump also implied to Raffensperger that he and his lawyer might get into trouble with the DOJ if they didn’t go along with the “recalculation”.

Trump sounded like a cartoonish third rate mob boss.

I don't think you're getting it. Nixon was finished. Trump is still very much involved in permanently destroying this republic.

This is such a typical and expected narrative from the right. Downplay treason and insurrection by Trump and follow that up with Hillary Clinton's emails while ignoring the fact that Trump was found to have stolen classified documents and taken them to Florida. 0 credibility when that happens.

Since late June, Attorney General Merrick Garland has certainly picked up the pace of his criminal investigation of the 2021 coup. Multiple key witnesses have appeared in front of a federal grand jury, and more will do so soon.

Garland has publicly confirmed he will follow the facts wherever they lead, including all the way to former president Donald Trump’s inner circle and to Trump himself.

If the law and facts warrant, we should expect Garland to treat Trump no differently than any common criminal. The key question will be: Will the department be able to prove each element of a crime (or crimes) beyond a reasonable doubt?

Garland’s steady stream of testimony from high-level officials reaffirms this commitment. Marc Short, former vice president Mike Pence’s chief of staff, and Greg Jacob, his chief counsel, have already testified before the grand jury. Pat Cipollone, former White House counsel, and his deputy Patrick Philbin have been summoned.

These attorneys had a front-row seat to the false-electors scheme. In calling them in to testify, Garland eliminates doubt as to whether the department is exploring evidence of Trump’s connection to the nonviolent elements of the coup as well as to the violence on Jan. 6.

    (Spoiler: He is examining both.)

Garland might forgo subpoenaing witnesses who are possible targets, such as Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, but given new allegations of wrongdoing (e.g. wiping Secret Service phones) and newly uncovered evidence (e.g. Alex Jones’s phone), the Justice Department will have plenty to keep investigators, prosecutors and grand jury members busy for some time.

Expect the grand jury testimony to move swiftly and in secret — and with tools Congress lacks. Unlike with the Jan. 6 hearings, prosecutors operating with a grand jury will not tolerate bogus executive privilege claims.

Moreover, while grand jury leaks do occur, the Justice Department cannot release testimony. Neither Trump nor other witnesses therefore will know the contours of the testimony, nor even the identities of all the witnesses.

And finally, prosecutors can grant immunity strategically to critical witness — again, whose identities may not be known to Trump and his cronies.

As he should, Garland has refused to put a deadline on the investigation. However, it is not inconceivable we could see indictments of one or more top figures by early 2023.

And given the apparent attempts to intimidate witnesses and destroy evidence (not to mention the possible loss of the Democrats’ House majority, thereby triggering efforts to defund the investigation or even attempts to impeach Garland), he should not let up……

Former President Donald Trump “probably” will be indicted on criminal charges along with officials in his White House as part of a Justice Department investigation of efforts to reverse the 2020 election results nationally, ex-Attorney General Eric Holder said in an interview Thursday.

But Holder suggested that before that happens, Trump is more likely to first face possible criminal charges from the Georgia state prosecutor who is investigating attempts by Trump and his allies to undo President Joe Biden’s win there in 2020.

Holder, who led the Justice Department during the Obama administration, made those predictions during an interview with the SiriusXM Urban View satellite radio show Joe Madison The Black Eagle...........

Hillary did commit a crime. Yet she will never go to trial. Because no one ever does. Neither will Joe Biden. Hunter may go to trial, but even that is uncertain if Merrick Garland has any say. He'll just decline to prosecute and that will be that.

Same with Lois Lerner. The folks who created the subprime crisis. Or a thousand other people.

Trump alone needs to be frog-marched into court. It might happen. The left needs this because they literally have nothing else to offer. Or maybe not. Garland has an uphill road
The left has a position on abortion to offer, and based upon last Tuesday in Kansas, that one is a game changer.

Now why did you bring up Lois Lerner, she treated some Liberal organizations to scrutiny same as she treated the Tea Party. And insofar as effect, nothing she did prevented those organizations from going about their business. There was no injury to litigate over.

Folks act like she hindered the Tea Party, and insofar as I can determine nothing bad happened to the Tea Party. The got audited, so what, so did some liberal organizations. The whole theory surrounding audits is that some innocent people do have to go through audits. That is how they are done.

Darrel Issa is the creepy crawler who deserves to be in Jail over that flap not Lois Learner.

When I'm defending her it's not like I'm defending a died in the wool Democrat. She's the kind of Democrat who votes for "a few Republicans." She's half a Republican for crying out loud.

    Read this article about her:

On Tuesday CNN reported that key January 6 texts have been erased by officials of Donald Trump’s defense department in addition to homeland security and the Secret Service. Not even a clueless Hamlet could avoid smelling “something rotten in the state of Denmark”.

With the growing list of deletions, there is a whole new criminal conspiracy to investigate: one to destroy evidence of the grave federal crimes already under investigation.

Nothing so focuses the prosecutorial mind or underscores the need to accelerate a criminal investigation as evidence that the investigation’s target may have plotted to erase the proof of his wrongdoing that is needed to hold him accountable.

The attorney general, Merrick Garland, knows that the fish always rots from the head. On 26 July, the Washington Post broke news that the justice department’s investigation is focused on Donald Trump himself. Time is of the essence in bringing his case to indictment………

Hence, the goal must be to secure a conviction before November 2024, and in any event, no later than 20 January 2025, when the next presidential term begins. It is already too late for all appeals from any such conviction to be exhausted by that date, but the key to holding the chief conspirator accountable is a jury verdict of guilt.

Consider this: the trial of insurrectionist Guy Reffitt occurred 13 months after his original indictment. That trial, and its delaying pre-trial motions, were incalculably less complex than Trump’s would be. One can easily anticipate motions that, if denied, might go far up the appellate chain……..

    So this happened today...

Wouldn’t it be wild if Trump won re-election and the put a “For Sale” sign on the FBI’s HQ?

I mean surly hes removed anything incriminating by now. Right?
They can always check the plumbing...

    From the WaPo

“My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said in a statement released through his political action committee, Save America.

The FBI declined to comment on whether it had conducted a search of the former president’s property.
A person familiar with the investigation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss its details, said agents were conducting a court-authorized search as they probe the potential mishandling of classified documents that were shipped to Mar-a-Lago.
