Several prominent Democratic figures are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, two sources familiar with the plans told NBC News.

President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been confirmed as speakers at the convention. Obama and the Clintons delivered speeches during the 2020 DNC, which was largely held virtually to prevent the spread of Covid-19 amid the pandemic.

A source familiar said that former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson Jason Carter is also confirmed to be speaking as a representative for his grandfather…….

He wasn't crazy about Harris when he was on The View a month ago, but said he would keep an open mind depending on the VP pick. We'll see.

Pence would be the biggest name, or one of the most impactful. To trot out Trump's previous VP, and have him talk about how Trump tried to kidnap/assassinate so Trump could get his coup. Ooo baby, that would make good tv.

I don't think there is anyway on god's green earth that Pence would agree to speak at a Democratic anything.....Despite Trump putting his and his family's life in danger that Christian Nationalist idiot will still vote for him IMO, regardless of what he might say....

I was just thinking about some of the uncanny similarities between 1968 and 2024 DNC's

Chicago, with a sitting President who decided not to run prior to the convention due to unpopularity, massive anti-war protests going on outside in the streets. The incumbent Vice President is named as the nominee at the convention (Harris will be) no less.

There are some differences however -

2024 RFK killed bears in NY, not murdered in LA.

2024 Anti-war protests are small in size compared to the 200k that showed up to protest for Civil Rights and against Vietnam and the draft.

Moreover, the City of Chicago granted the permits in 2024. Abbey Hoffman, Bobby Seale and the others weren't so lucky. They were denied the permit one day before the event; making everyone there guilty of trespassing and they were treated accordingly (read harshly)

But most importantly- in 2024 there is no contested convention. We aren't ending up with Hubert Humphrey after like 7 votes. And then starting from scratch as the nominee the party didn't want.

No the Dems are going in with momentum, the candidate of the moment (1968's had been murdered in LA sadly), and a unified constituency.

In other words, I don't see the criminal winning this time.
