Just to note, Gass has also apologised for it. "“The line I improvised Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence in any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened [the shooting] was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement." https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/jul/16/jack-black-tenacious-d-kyle-gass-trumpI am sure it's been cleared up in the last 20 pages...but in case anyone was wondering, Jack Black didnt say that. His bandmate, Kyle Gass, said it. Jack Black has cancelled the rest of the Tenacious D tour in response.
I mean sure, nobody here is drawing parallels between Trump and Hitler (at least I don’t think they are being serious in drawing those parallels), but I’m not sure who I can take seriously given comments I keep seeing centered around Trump and Hitler. The only similarities I see them sharing are funny haircuts and having 2 eyes, feet, ears, and such. That’s where the similarities or parallels end for me (and that from someone who loathes them both).
Tell me Dave, do you draw parallels between Trump and Hitler?
Per the report, the MAGA leader's 2016 campaign database "lists the assailant’s parents Matthew, and his wife Mary, 53," alongside "6.7 million people in the swing state of Pennsylvania profiled for their likely ownership of firearms. Both scored highly, with Crook’s father Matthew given particularly high scores."
Fixed“He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead,” (to exploit my husband’s death for his own political gain) Helen Comperatore wrote, adding that she had told the former president that her husband, Corey Comperatore, “left this world a hero, and God welcomed him in.”
Couldn't agree more. All of this.If you haven't, you should go to the Dachau concentration camp and view the rise of Hitler exhibit there. They have many speeches, propaganda posters, interviews....etc from the early days of Hitlers rise. The messaging of Trump's first campaign is so spot on it's scary. In many cases it is nearly quotes from Hitler propaganda posters. Just replace the word "Jew" with "illegal immigrants" or "Mexicans." My friend got so upset he had to leave before even going to the main part of Dachau(this was during Trump's first campaign). I am not sure if this was a permanent exhibit, but if it's still there I encourage everyone to see it.
If you can see all that and still not see ANY similarities between the 2 then I don't know what to say. No one is saying or implying that Trump will murder millions of people. It's just a warning. This happened before and people were kind of lulled into it. Hitler never said "vote for me and I will murder millions of Jews." He had much easier to digest messaging that resonated with people. More like your problems aren't your fault....it's the immigrants and Jews! They are born criminals!
Those of us who see the similarities just want to make sure history will not repeat itself. I don't see how shying away from talking about it helps anything.
I have a feeling there are a lot of democrats who wouldn’t take a call from Trump.
I've become aware of that. Most of the democrats I know would keep a civil tongue in their cheeks and try to make something of that opportunity to speak with him to, try, try, try. Most democrats i know would love to get a call from Trump so they could tell him what a piece of garbage he is to his face or at least over the phone.
Couldn't agree more. All of this.
The thing to really take away from this post is nobody (no normal, critical thinking individual) is comparing Trump to Hitler in the "evil" department. I think that's why Trump supporters get so inflamed by the comparison. They are not even close to being the same "evil". What is comparable is how Hitler came into power in Germany and how his followers started to bend rules and change laws to help Hitler gain power and influence. The same propaganda playbook. Do a deep dive on Hitler's rise to power in early 1930's Germany. The comparisons are legit.
Fixed
It’s not the call it’s the “continue to call”He can’t do anything right. Don’t call and he’s uncaring. Call and he’s doing it for political gain. You people are so ridiculous.

I know it would be useless to try. But I would try.
I'm going to try to acquaint you with another outlook regarding this election, and all the women who are quite likely to vote.
Listen to this song. It's about feelings and trying, and trying, and trying.
I don't think they're going to try voting for that old Criminal because Biden is too old.
I know.I wouldn't respect anyone who had a phone call with Trump and didn't tell him that he is human garbage.
I'd take a call from most Republicans, but there are a few die hard MAGA Trumpers I wouldn't ever want to have a conversation with, certainly.
I saw a picture of a teleprompter with a corner shattered, and there were shrapnel wounds to the Secret Service agents as well.I
I'll just point out, without taking a side on what happened, that the Snopes article lists Trump's statement that he was hit by a bullet as evidence. Because, of course, he would not lie. They also claim that we have a photo of a bullet striking Trump, but we don't.
I only care that Trump is claiming he was hit by a bullet when he was not. It’s just another lie he’s pushing because it makes him seem more badass, and his supporters are mythologizing him over surviving a bullet. I care because we should operate in truth, not Trump’s lies. This is such a weird hill to die on.
Even if it’s glass, he still came within inches of his life.
Who cares if the bullet grazed him or if glass grazed him?
I disagree. That photo will go down as one of the most iconic political photos of all time. That's why the media is trying to find ways not to use it and it was why the NYT cropped out the flag for its front page story the day after the shooting.I think that picture’s impact may be overstated.
His views haven’t changed. No change of heart.
