I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

    Nope.
Hey, it's at least being lied about in the little box with Kay-Lee's presser.

CNN is playing the tape, FYI. It was Feb 2, IIRC.

    has excerpts.

Why do I keep hearing the Mortal Kombat "Finish Him" thing in my head?

We've seen enough of these moments to know that at least 40% of the country is fine just turning the game off and switching to a new game on a different console before the right button combo can be pressed. While we'll get at least one defender here who will sit down at the computer, pound some energy drinks, and praise the infallibility of MAGA for pages and pages on end, the rest will just ignore it and switch to the next topic as the reason why this doesn't matter.

I'd love for once to hear the opinions of our resident conservatives before the talking points have been sent out. @Farb @SaintForLife @JimEverett @BobE - got any thoughts of your own on this?
Do you really need to make the snarky quip about talking points?

I will repeat what I have said in this thread: the President's response to this was and has been confusing. It still is to a large extent.
More on the topic at hand - I will repeat my thought that even if Trump believed that the virus was not going to have much impact he still should have been preparing for the worse even while downplaying it publically. The fact that he knew it had the potential to be as deadly as it has been makes it even more of a failure of leadership.

Rising to the level of impeachment and/or treason?

A sufficient reason to vote him out, at least?

Remember at the beginning of this I was like "how did a bunch of people on an internet forum see a problem coming but not the administration?"

It was obvious the leadership was bad, but this stuff just takes it to another level.
