I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

President Donald Trump has pledged to take a “look into” whether the government should reach a settlement with the family of Ashli Babbit and also into the continued employment of the police officer who shot her dead on January 6.

The president has repeatedly praised his supporters who attempted to overturn his 2020 election loss to former President Joe Biden, including Babbitt.

The 35-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran, who sported a Trump flag as a cape, was fatally shot while climbing through a broken door barricaded by officers as they attempted to evacuate dozens of Congress members.

Last January, Babbitt’s family filed a $30 million wrongful death suit against the U.S. government.

Trump, who in January granted clemency to 1,500 supporters charged with crimes connected to the January 6, 2021 attack, told Newsmax’s Greg Kelly on Tuesday that he will examine whether the Department of Justiceshould settle the case.

Kelly pressed the president on the issue, telling Trump that the government is “still kind of fighting that case” and that the DOJ “is opposing that lawsuit.”

“You’re telling me that for the first time. I haven’t heard that,” Trump responded.

“I’m a big fan of Ashli Babbitt, okay, and Ashli Babbitt was a really good person who was a big MAGA fan, Trump fan, and she was innocently standing there – they even say, trying to sort of hold back the crowd.”……….

Some of President Trump’s most ardent MAGA fans are questioning FBI Director Kash Patel’s decision to elevate an agency veteran who played a key role in coordinating the sprawling Jan. 6 investigation to lead the Washington Field Office.

Steven J. Jensen previously served as chief of the FBI’s Domestic Terrorism Operations Section, and was recently named by Patel as assistant director in charge of the office, according to a report by the New York Times.............

But many Trump supporters, swayed by conspiracy sites with a vested interest in discrediting the mainstream media, have dismissed the appointment as “fake news.” The right-wing site Gateway Pundit initially published a story headlined, “NY Times Caught Again Spreading Fake News: TGP Confirms Jan. 6 Activist Agent Was NOT Appointed Washington Field Office Assistant Director…Questions Remain,” before confirming that Jensen was, in fact, appointed to the position.

The popular X account Catturd posted on April 5: “Yesterday over half the conservatives on X were fooled by a fake news article by the NYT that I told you was fake — and they spent all day doomsday gaslighting a fake story.”.............

The anger and depression is hitting hard today. The DOJ and FBI weaponized against us. #J6ers were murdered. Others were tormented into suicide. The rest of us were imprisoned, tortured, our families left to fend for themselves, houses raided and children scared and scarred for life. Many now struggling to survive, some homeless. We thought our stand meant something.

@FBIDirectorKash and @FBIDDBongino who we thought were going to relieve some of the pain, go after the bad guys just added to our pain and torment. Stabbed us in the back. They actually promoted one of our tormentors, #SteveJensen, into a position of great power within the #FBI. We were promised they would tear it down, start from scratch.

The traitors are being rewarded for what they did to us. No different than #MichaelByrd being rewarded for murdering #AshliBabbitt or #LilaMorris murdering #RoseanneBoyland and nothing being done. No different than @AGPamBondi allowing top #DOJ prosecutors like #MichaelGordon remain. They are failing us and it seems intentional. How much more do you want us to take?

If he didn't want to be rounded up like a gosh darned terrorist, he shouldn't have committed acts of domestic terrorism. This supposed grown arse adult can fork all the way off with the rest of the whiny snowflakes.

Donald Trump grumbled that he’s unable to “go after” the members of the House select committee that investigated the events surrounding the January 6 riots because of Joe Biden’s preemptive pardon, which the former president said he issued to prevent his successor from prosecuting them.

Besides raging about his inability to exact retribution on the lawmakers who probed the attempted insurrection and his role in inciting the rioters, Trump also patted himself on the back for pardoning most of those convicted of crimes related to the Capitol attack.…..

Trump, meanwhile, quickly pivoted to praising himself for his sweeping pardons of the Capitol rioters, which he claimed were highly popular.

“There's probably never been anything like what happened with the people from January 6th, who were largely and there’s always exceptions, but largely great patriots for this country,” he blustered. “And so many people were happy with that. You know, I did that and I let them out. I gave him their freedom. They were treated worse than murderers.”

To the contrary, public polling at the time of Trump’s pardons found that they were deeply unpopular, with roughly three-quarters of Americans disapproving of the president giving clemency to those convicted of violent crimes and more than half of the public objecting to Trump pardoning the nonviolent offenders.

Turning his attention to the congressional committee that probed the riot and Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the president groused that “they went after these people so violently” before peddling his previous false claim that the committee deleted “all the evidence” from its investigation.

Asked about the “pipe bomber” that has yet to be identified and whether he’ll “get to the bottom of it,” Trump declared the suspect was “a person of the left” while additionally asserting that other participants in the riot were agents provocateur who were looking to frame MAGA supporters.

At the same time, he complained that he couldn’t take legal action against former Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, the two Republican lawmakers who sat on the January 6 committee.

“Look at the unselect Committee of political thugs – these horrible people – Democrats and two of the worst Republicans in history, crying Adam and Liz Cheney, two of the worst. They are just sick people,” he exclaimed.

“This was the committee. And it went for a year and a half. At the end of a year and a half, what did they do? They destroyed every piece of evidence they had because it came out totally on our side.”

“They burned everything. And then Biden gave them all a pardon,” he continued. “These are congresspeople. These are people that are in Congress, not respected members, but they're in Congress.”

Saying that “Biden gave them all their freedom because they were dead,” Trump insisted that the committee’s actions were “so egregious” that they demanded criminal sanctions.

“But could you imagine if I deleted and destroyed all documents? And this is a hearing, a big deal that was set up that shouldn't have been allowed to go forward. And, that's it. So we can't even go after them because they were pardoned,” he concluded.……..

    Par for the course...
If the DoJ told him that, then they are wrong...AGAIN.

    13. Effect of a pardon
While a presidential pardon will restore various rights lost as a result of the pardoned offense and should lessen, to some extent, the stigma arising from a conviction, it will not erase or expunge the record of your conviction. If your petition is granted, both your conviction and pardon will show on your record. Therefore, even if you are granted a pardon, you must still disclose your conviction on any form where such information is required, although you may also disclose the fact that you received a pardon. In addition, most civil disabilities attendant upon a federal felony conviction, such as loss of the right to vote and hold state public office, are imposed by state rather than federal law, and also may be removed by state action. Because the federal pardon process is exacting and may be more time-consuming than analogous state procedures, you may wish to consult with the appropriate authorities in the state of your residence regarding the procedures for restoring your state civil rights.

BLUF: As much as his highness would like everyone to believe, pardons don't erase the criminal record nor does it erase the victims. The convictions are still on the record.

Four Seattle police officers who attended President Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally on Jan. 6, 2021, which preceded the attack on the United States Capitol that day, have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to keep their names out of public records related to the insurrection.

The group, which consists of current and former officers at the Seattle Police Department, initially sued the city of Seattle to prohibit Jan. 6 investigative records from being released without their names redacted. But the Washington Supreme Court ruled against them in a decisionearlier this year, in which the justices unanimously found the officers failed to show that disclosing their names in public filings would violate their right to privacy, as the lawsuit claimed.

"At its core, this appeal involves whether a government agency can ignore the chilling effect resulting from an employer requiring an employee to disclose their off-duty political activities and attendant impressions or motivations associated therewith, followed by widespread dissemination to those who deliberately seek this information to subject these public servants to vilification without the commission of any misconduct whatsoever," reads the latest petition to the nation's highest court.…….

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) — Those who rioted, assaulted police officers or broke into congressional offices during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 are now being received as honored guest speakers at local Republican events around the country.

Since President Donald Trump pardoned about 1,500 rioters on his first day in office, some of those involved in the attack are getting a platform to tell their version of events and are drawing praise in some conservative circles as heroes and martyrs.

Some are considering runs for office, recognizing that at least among a certain segment of the pro-Trump base, they are seen not as criminals, but as patriots.

Ryan Kelley thought he had a good shot at becoming Michigan’s governor in 2022. That is, until he was charged with misdemeanors for participating in the riot. His campaign sputtered and he finished fourth out of five candidates in the Republican primary.

Three years later, Kelley says people ask him all the time to run for governor again. In today’s America, his two-month prison sentence for the Capitol riots isn’t the obstacle to public life it may once have been.

At a recent county Republican committee event in Jackson, Michigan, the 43-year-old commercial real estate developer was met with hugs and handshakes. Dozens of attendees hollered and clapped when he introduced himself as “your favorite J6er.”

They gasped and shook their heads as Kelley recalled how his young son thought he was dead while he was in federal prison. They urged him to run for governor in 2026, something he said he is debating.

“I’ve done much worse and did no jail time,” said 58-year-old Todd Gillman, a woodworker and Republican chairman for the local congressional district. “Thank God people like Ryan Kelley are not intimidated by the lawfare that was used against them.”

Kelley, who did not commit violence or enter the Capitol on Jan. 6, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanortrespassing charge. He maintains the judge who sentenced him made the decision based on the claims Kelley made about Jan. 6 and the 2020 election during his 2022 gubernatorial campaign — and not his actions at the Capitol.

By The Associated Press’ count, at least two dozen local Republican groups nationwide in recent months have invited Jan. 6 rioters to speak at regular meetings or special fundraisers.

They include people who only trespassed, but also rioters who were convicted and pardoned for more serious crimes, such as carrying a firearm on Capitol grounds or violently attacking law enforcement.

The Western Wake Republican Club in North Carolina in March featured remarks from James Grant, a pardoned rioter who was among the first to assault police officers and breach a security perimeter during the attack.

A Republican women’s club in Lawrence County, Tennessee, earlier this month hosted an event for Ronald Colton McAbee. He was employed as a sheriff’s deputy in Tennessee when he went to the Capitol, dragging an officer away from a police line and punching another who tried to stop him.…….

Calling these idiots public servants is absurd.

The Trump administration has reached a settlement with the family of Ashli Babbitt, the Trump supporter who was shot and killed while in the mob breaching the House Speaker's Lobby on Jan. 6, 2021.

Multiple sources told CBS News the settlement has been reached in principle but is not yet signed. In a court proceeding Friday, a plaintiff's attorney confirmed the settlement in principle was reached. It would avert a trial and further proceedings in a $30 million civil suit filed by the conservative activist group Judicial Watch on behalf of Babbitt's estate, including her late husband.

Babbitt's death was a rallying point for Trump loyalists and Capitol rioters who alleged police used unnecessary force in stopping the mob on Jan. 6. In the civil lawsuit, Babbitt's estate alleged U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd was negligent in the issue of force and his firearm. The suit also argued Byrd was not in uniform and was wearing a COVID mask when he opened fire against Babbitt. The suit accused Byrd of failing to "de-escalate."

"Ashli was unarmed," the lawsuit said. "Her hands were up in the air, empty, and in plain view of Lt. Byrd and other officers in the lobby. Ashli posed no threat to the safety of anyone."

The case, which was initially filed in California, was transferred to the Washington, D.C., federal court in 2024 and was defended by the Justice Department under the Biden administration.

In a 2024 court filing, the department argued, "Ms. Babbitt unlawfully entered the Capitol. She made her way to the east doors of the Speaker's Lobby situated immediately behind the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives, the site of Joint Sessions of Congress. Although officers had barricaded the Speaker's Lobby doors with heavy furniture, demonstrators broke through the glass panels of the lobby doors and matching windows (called "sidelights") on either side of the doors."

It went on to say, "Michael Byrd, a U.S. Capitol Police lieutenant, was positioned on the other side of the lobby doors. When Ms. Babbitt, wearing a backpack, tried to climb through a sidelight into the Speaker's Lobby, Lt. Byrd fatally shot her."

In an August 2021 internal review, the U.S. Capitol Police said Byrd saved lives and did not engage in misconduct.

"This officer and the officer's family have been the subject of numerous credible and specific threats for actions that were taken as part of the job of all our officers: defending the Congress, Members, staff and the democratic process," the review said. "The actions of the officer in this case potentially saved Members and staff from serious injury and possible death from a large crowd of rioters who forced their way into the U.S. Capitol and to the House Chamber where Members and staff were steps away."………
