Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Not possible for me to care less.

Conservative Americans and, imo, conservatives around the world are hyper-fixated on sex.

Control or attempted control of sex via defining what is “normal” or “natural” is a useful tool to control people.

As for blasphemous? Please. Conservatives blaspheme every time they ignore the teachings of The Christ they claim to worship.
To be fair, we all have limits about sexual matters.

Would you show a 9 year old girl S&M porn? Bestiality?
Do you consider bestiality to be natural?
Do you think it is OK for a 13 year old girl to have sexual relations with a 45 year old man with or without parents' consent?
Do you feel indignation when you read a 30 year old female teacher had sex with an 11 year old student?

I am guessing your response to this is going to be, those are extreme cases and some of them even unlawful, but it shows we all have limits around sexual matters.

Surely conservatives, and Christian conservatives in special are more prudish than your average non-conservative.

It's funny to me, that Christians think the world revolves around them and don't realize that certain things and symbols have different meanings to different people.

That's not the image of a calf, that's the image of a bull, more specifically the type of bull used in bullfights, and bulls have certain meanings in France (see Hall of Bulls in Lascaux, Camargue, bull fighting).

The "Last Supper", that is, shall we call it a choice interpretation. Believe it or not, people have gathered around tables to eat and drink in every culture that made tables since times unknown.
I dont think the world revolves around Christians, but why in the world would they think that would be a good thing? The Olympics are supposed to be something the world could come together and watch. Why be so divisive?

Also, the drag queens and sexual dancing by some was highly inappropriate and parents who had their kids watching with them were probably horrified.

It was definitely mocking the last supper.

...we all have limits about sexual matters.
Sexual limits are not the issue. False accusations and oppressing the rights of people just for having differing sexual identities and preferences is the problem.

Would you show a 9 year old girl S&M porn? Bestiality?
The statements above draw a false equivalency. The problem is not having sexual limits. The problem is falsely accusing those who have differing sexual values of "grooming" children into "sin," or "perversion" just by being publicly open about their sexual value. Men who prefer to wear what society at large has arbitrarily defined as women's clothes are not "grooming" children just by dressing how they prefer to dress.

If an adult takes their dog with them and let's children play with the dog, they are doing it because they like their dog and they like to let children play with their dog. They are not doing it to "groom" children into bestiality. If a library has an “animal petting reading hour” and let's children play with the pets, that's not "grooming" the children into bestiality.

When we play the "got your nose" or "pulling my thumb apart" tricks with young children, we are not "grooming" them into S&M. When magicians fake a needle in the arm or other fake body injuries while doing magic at a "magic reading hour," they are not "grooming" children into S&M.

Do you think it is OK for a 13 year old girl to have sexual relations with a 45 year old man with or without parents' consent?
This is another false equivalency. The statement associates any public display of being a person who is LGTBQIA+ is equivalent to an adult having sex with a minor.

And why are all examples focused solely on girls? Surely, we care about a 45 year old woman or man having sex with a 13 year old boy and we care about 9 year old boys being show S&M and bestiality porn. So why not just say child?

Do you feel indignation when you read a 30 year old female teacher had sex with an 11 year old student?
This is just more false equivalency. If any adult person who is LGBTQIA+ has sex with any 11 year old, that is both illegal and unacceptable. The fact that the adult person is LGBTQIA+ has nothing to do with what's wrong with them having sex with any minor of any age. Having sex with a minor is equally illegal and unacceptable whether it is an adult who is cis heterosexual or an adult who is LGBTQIA+.

...it shows we all have limits around sexual matters.
Again, sexual limits are not the issue. False accusations and oppressing the rights of people just for having differing sexual identities and preferences is the problem.

Surely conservatives, and Christian conservatives in special are more prudish than your average non-conservative.
It's not a matter of being prudish. People can be prudish all they want, but they don’t have the right to make false accusations and oppress the rights of people just because those people have differing sexual identities and preferences than they do.

I dont think the world revolves around Christians,
Apparently you do, when you think displays that have nothing to do with religion are attacks towards Christianity.
but why in the world would they think that would be a good thing? The Olympics are supposed to be something the world could come together and watch. Why be so divisive?
Are we still talking about the bull head?

Also, the drag queens and sexual dancing by some was highly inappropriate and parents who had their kids watching with them were probably horrified.
Oh, we are no longer talking about the bull head.

It was definitely mocking the last supper.

No, it was not. You probably noticed (and were outraged by) the blue guy. He was supposed to represent Dyonisius/Bacchus, the Greek/Roman god of many things including wine, insanity, and festivity ( all together better known as debauchery). These gods who were already established in Greek/Roman societies well before the alleged birth of Jesus, as well as the rituals that were practiced to worship/follow those gods, i.e., debauchery. And this debauchery included excessive eating and sex.

So, absolutely nothing to do with the Last Supper.

It's amazing how similar it looks to the last supper despite having nothing to do with it as you claim.

Sexual limits are not the issue.

For the record, that's the issue I was talking about in my reply to bird. The questions I posed where simply examples of limits that I think most people will draw, and were not meant to be equivalencies of any kind.

So any any lineup of people behind an object is a reference to the last supper?

First, it is worth nothing that the picture shown above is cropped. There were many more people. Yet, the picture presented above:
    Was taken on a bridge.
    At night.
17 people seen in the frame (again, there were more)
There are men, women, and even a child in that picture.
Of at least 4 different ethnicities I can see.
    They all are standing.
    Behind a passerelle (cat walk).
That has a runner (red carpet).
With a DJ turntable up front.

We are going to need an expert to ascertain which one is the forgery.

Omg! This is just the best.

The absolute ignorance of history was laughable, but the fact that they don't know the painting - which was over a thousand years after the alleged supper- was based on the Greek festival of Dionysus is precious.

And the full throated expression of their total lack of knowledge about the history of the thing they were so worked up about is the chef's kiss.

It is so easy to see why The Orange Chicken loves the poorly educated

I have no strong opinions about the opening ceremony, other than it seemed too drawn out and I lost interest at times (and that’s okay), but this is a perspective I read on Facebook. I’ll copy/paste and attribute because I don’t think a link will work for people who, understandably, aren’t on that platform.

    Dearest Gentle Reader,

I’m about to step on some toes in regard to the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

The headless woman was Marie Antoinette. She ruled over France and was found guilty of treason, conspiracy, and stealing from the country.

    Sound familiar?

Also, it was not the Last Supper. It was a depiction of an ancient Greek Bacchanal… because, you know, the Olympics are ancient and Greek. Surprise!

And if you didn’t know, a Bacchanalia is an uncontrollably promiscuous, extravagant, and loud party. The parties often spanned several days which honored the god of wine, Bacchus (the blue guy covered in grape vine). He is also known as Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, later known as the god of wine and pleasure.

And finally, it was not Death on a pale horse. It was Sequana, Goddess of the Seine, the River in which the boat precession took place. She was meant to be the representation of the Olympic spirit and of Sequana.

If some of you weren’t so busy trying to end the Dept. of Education, you might know this.

Loosen the clutch on your pearls.

    Yours truly,
Lady Francis (Shared by Marcus Watson)

I just knew they'd be throwing a fit over the Opening Ceremony, lol. I don't think Paris cares much.

I did enjoy it, but watched it on dvr and fast forwarded through most of the parade of nations. The heavy metal part with Marie Antoinette was awesome.

I remember when we were told this would never happen and to stop exaggerating. This is a frightening trend in Democrat controlled states.

No, it isn’t. You are a liar. How many kids transitioned last year? How many kids under 18 are in the U.S.?

This week, the world’s richest person launched an unseemly public attack on his estranged transgender daughter.

In an interview released on Monday, Elon Musk – electric car entrepreneur, US government rocket contractor, and outright owner of the social media service X (formerly Twitter) – claimed that his daughter Vivian Wilson’s transition was the trigger for his recent right-wing turn.

"Essentially... my son is dead," said Musk. "Killed by the woke mind virus. So I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that. And we’re making some progress."

Wilson soon fired back on the rival social network Threads and in an interview with NBC News, saying that Musk was "lying blatantly" about her childhood and of bullying her for expressing femininity. (The Independent has contacted Musk for comment, via his companies.)

For many trans people, these events were sad but not surprising. That is because all too many have witnessed their family members’ politics becoming more extreme and more anti-trans since they came out.

Here are the stories of three trans and non-binary people who spoke to The Independentabout their experiences. Their identities and certain other details have been blurred, and their answers have been edited for length and clarity.

In most cases, their family members’ political shift didn’t come from nowhere; some had a prior interest in anti-trans politics. But all our interviewees said that things had got worse since their transition began.

I started transitioning around a year and a half to two years ago, and came out to my parents eight months ago. I think multiple members of my family are undergoing anti-trans radicalization.

After I came out, my mum took time off work due to stress and claims to have had panic attacks. My sister sent me a very unpleasant message blaming me for our mum’s mental state. Our relationship hasn’t been the same since.

My dad started obsessively reading anti-trans literature to the point where one of their church leaders (who is by no means accepting of trans people) told him he needed to slow down. The only members of my family who have responded in a way I would describe as ‘normal’ are my brother and his wife.………

They knew exactly what they were doing. There was one performer who's balls were hanging out the whole performance. A man will know immediately if that happens so any claims that he didn't realize they were out aren't believable.
