Assassination attempt on Trump (4 Viewers)

Are you in denial about the years of violent rhetoric coming from Trump, MAGA, and right wing pundits? It’s central to Trump’s appeal. I’m not doing an accounting of that for you. If you’ve ignored it or simply want to deny it, then ignorance is a choice you can live with.

Trump is a threat to our democracy and the policy initiatives he’s associated with are a danger to millions of people. Identifying that isn’t a call to violence.
It sounds like you are implying that Trump’s own violent rhetoric played a part in his assassination attempt. Is that accurate?

When free speech isn't free. Or does that only apply to one side?
Did you realize how dumb that sounded before you posted it?

A network pulling their own hosts off the air because they don't trust them not to say something controversial or blame Trump for his own assassination attempt isn't a free speech issue. I'm hoping you realize that and just said that as a partisan talking point.

I’m saying I’m not going to play this game of both-sidesing when Trump repeatedly encourages, stokes, and invokes violent rhetoric.

We don’t know what motivated the shooter to make the failed attempt.

I haven't been here in a while because this place was a highly partisan - no middle ground from any side - place of banishment from the EE for people with no political filter - shirt show the last time I was here....

I just thought something like this might possibility give folks here a mind to step back and dial down the crazy over the top divisive idiocy... I guess not.

I was thinking that at least this thread would be about the actual events that took place Saturday and we could discuss them with tact and logic.... also... guess not.

I came here to post some interesting vids taken by people on the ground via reddit... but I think I'll just drop this one and head out... take it easy guys... geez....

Both-sidesing? Does Biden and the left engage in violent rhetoric or only Trump and the right?

It sounds like you are implying that it was strictly the rights rhetoric that set the stage for Trump's assassination attempt. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    I agree

After seeing rhat video, how in hell did they not get Trump off the stage if the crowd sees the shooter. Did they not have any drones flying above?

    I agree

Why are your acting on the assumption that the shooter was motivated by any rhetoric? We don’t know what led to the failed attempt.

We don't know. We are speculating on a message board. It seems like you don't want to answer that question although you were completely comfortable calling out Trump's rhetoric.

His point is that you think one side needs to "tone down the rhetoric," starting with Morning Joe, apparently, but you seem to have nothing to say about highly incendiary comments made over the weekend by the likes of Donnie Jr., and elected officials such as JD Vance, MTG, Tim Scott, Mike Collins, etc.

I know the GOP would love for the Democrats to "tone it down," but I for one and I hope everyone else say, "Nope." We were talking about Trump before this based on what we believe to be true, and the fact someone tried to shoot Trump for reasons unclear doesn't change that one bit.

I have the same question, expressed in an earlier post.

This is looking like another demonstration of incompetence and dereliction in an active shooter situation.

Par for the course with Don Jr.

But why leave it at the simplest, most likely explanation, when a conspiracy is so much more entertaining?

I’m acknowledging how blatant and persistent Trump has been with that rhetoric in response to the sudden clutching of pearls by right wingers because his opposition is rightfully calling out the dangers he poses.

Anybody expressing outrage about Biden using a common term like bullseye, while ignoring years of the rhetoric coming from Trump and the rightwing, shouldn’t be taken seriously.

I'm not sure how connected local police are to the secret service. They also have to be careful about potential distractions to other threats.

Hindsight is 20/20. But in real life, information doesn't travel fast enough between parties.

All of this will be investigated, however.

And when has Fox ever done that?

    Yeah, that's what I thought.

Being former Military and having trained with and having been on security details... I have no idea how 2 counter teams with spotters less than 200 yards away didn't glass this guy and take him out prior to him getting off shots... especially when people on the ground and LEOs clearly spotted him prior to shots fired. It's gross negligence / failure of protocol at best... and I don't want to even entertain what it is at worst.

It’s terrifying that this guy was able to get into position and was noticed by people before security was onto him (at least that is what appears to have occurred).

When you think about it, it may be just as simple as an incompetency issue. Remember how far folks were able to breach into the WH on January 6th?

It doesn’t surprise me that our military can pop an orange off a goats arse from space in some poor country in the ME but almost fudged up letting a president get asassinated.
