Assassination attempt on Trump (3 Viewers)

I haven't been here in a while because this place was a highly partisan - no middle ground from any side - place of banishment from the EE for people with no political filter - shirt show the last time I was here....

I just thought something like this might possibility give folks here a mind to step back and dial down the crazy over the top divisive idiocy... I guess not.

I was thinking that at least this thread would be about the actual events that took place Saturday and we could discuss them with tact and logic.... also... guess not.

I came here to post some interesting vids taken by people on the ground via reddit... but I think I'll just drop this one and head out... take it easy guys... geez....

SFL has already got that covered. Redundant post is, well, redundant.

Also (not that it matters) but that looks like an AK - not an AR as has been reported.

We need to accept that MAGA is going to have total control for at least two years.
We don't need to accept that, you are welcome to do that if you want. Please respect our right not to accept it. Please use the pronouns "I" and "me," and stop using the pronouns "we" and "us," because not many of us agree with what you believe or your choices.

His point is that you think one side needs to "tone down the rhetoric," starting with Morning Joe, apparently, but you seem to have nothing to say about highly incendiary comments made over the weekend by the likes of Donnie Jr., and elected officials such as JD Vance, MTG, Tim Scott, Mike Collins, etc.
Well it was their candidate that almost got assassinated so I would expect some heated rhetoric after a historic event like that eventhough I don't agree with them.

Did you assume their side wouldn't be angry especially because Trump would be dead right now if he hadn't turned his head?

Either way it's not a free speech issue.
I know the GOP would love for the Democrats to "tone it down," but I for one and I hope everyone else say, "Nope." We were talking about Trump before this based on what we believe to be true, and the fact someone tried to shoot Trump for reasons unclear doesn't change that one bit.
You guys have been propagandized by the corporate media to think that Trump is the next Hitler, that Trump will end democracy, that Trump will jail journalists, that Trump will kill someone on the White House front lawn now that he is a King, that Trump is an existential threat, that he will jail his political opponents(cough, cough like Biden and Democrats have been trying) that Trump will put people in concentration camps, etc.

    It's insane fear mongering rhetoric.

Ezra Klein admits that in private Top Democrats don't believe Trump is an existential threat to democracy. It's just something they say for political reasons.

Right or wrong, The United States has typically allowed / supported whatever Israel does in the name of security. This isn't specific to Biden or Bush or anyone else.
Does it typically include genocide? Do you deny that Israel has been committing genocide?

Being former Military and having trained with and being on security details... I have no idea how 2 counter teams with spotters less than 200 yards away didn't glass this guy and take him out prior to him getting off shots... especially when people on the ground and LEOs clearly spotted him prior to shots fired. It's gross negligence / failure of protocol at best... and I don't want to even entertain what it is at worst.

I’m not sure how visible he was from their vantage point, before he was positioned to start firing. It appears he crawled up a low pitched roof, and I don’t know what was behind him they might have had to account for if shooting blind.

There were clearly failures in securing the scene. Local police have been implicated because it was apparently their responsibility to maintain security outside the Secret Service perimeter but an investigation will need to take everything into account.

If would have only taken one officer to alert Secret Service to a potential threat and Trump would have been safe. The likelihood of others being harmed would have remained since the shooter would have already accepted he wasn’t getting out of their alive.

I’m acknowledging how blatant and persistent Trump has been with that rhetoric in response to the sudden clutching of pearls by right wingers because his opposition is rightfully calling out the dangers he poses.

Anybody expressing outrage about Biden using a common term like bullseye, while ignoring years of the rhetoric coming from Trump and the rightwing, shouldn’t be taken seriously.
I didn't say anything about the bullseye or say Biden has blood on his hands because of the bullseye comment like the left did with Palin. Anyone on the right who does is an idiot.

Nobody is ignoring Trump's rhetoric, but the media and the Democrats rhetoric has been much more hyperbolic about Trump.

MSNBC realized that and pulled Joe and Mika off the air today. Good for them.

We weren't there and aren't privy to the communications in real time. But that confirmation has to go through official channels and LEOs are responsible for securing the area where the shooter was at. The shooter was in a prone position and likely not easily visible to the snipers from his position. It's likely they didn't actually spot him until he opened fire.

That said, this was definitely a failure on the part of the USSS because their job is to ensure the safety and protection of the target. The officer who came across the shooter may have sent a delayed message/warning to the SS, but we don't know that.

And no question there will be a thorough investigation and likely the SS will make changes to how they coordinate security with local police.

I do wonder about drone coverage though. Maybe that's only for specific events, but I have no idea what the situation is with those.

I'm not sure how connected local police are to the secret service. They also have to be careful about potential distractions to other threats.

Hindsight is 20/20. But in real life, information doesn't travel fast enough between parties.

All of this will be investigated, however.

In my limited experience... In these details there is always an emergency coms channel for all details to com on... if there was not... uh... why? Any open EMCOM of "shooter on the roof" - and this type of situation is averted... We aren't talking about a highly-trained stalk here... people on the ground with iPhones saw him and were telling anyone that would listen. Crazy...

Agreed... has to be investigated... and someone needs to be fired.

One of the first things Trump considered was how the assassination attempt would affect his RNC speech. He looked back at his entire time in presidential politics. 'I've been fighting a group of people that I considered very bad people for a long time, and they've been fighting me, and we've put up a very good fight,' he told me. 'We had a very tough speech, and I threw it out last night, I said I can't say these things after what I've been through.'

I didn’t. I had initially responded to your comment about people using the shooter’s party affiliation as a way to blame Trump. I can’t control how you choose to fill in the pieces.

Then I was talking in general about the sudden concern right wingers have about rhetoric. It’s nonsense and they aren’t sincere.

This is were I'm at. As long as Trump and his fellow fascists are spewing violent rhetoric, then I've got no problem with it being spewed right back at them. If they want it to stop for good, then they have to go first, because they started it first.

Republican leaders who are calling on the Dems to tone down their rhetoric since Trump was shot at, have turned right a round to spew more violent rhetoric.

This is a go to tactic of fascists. They are not honorable or decent people. They know they can only spread their lies and hate if people let them. They know that if people call them out and challenge them for their lies and hate, they can't get the power they want.

So they hypocritically demand others being civil, so that they can get away with spreading their lies and hate freely and unchecked. They know that's the only way they can win. They know that decent, honorable and honest people will make the mistake of thinking they are being sincere, when they are actually being devious and hypocritical.

So let me say it as clearly as I can to the Trump fascists who may be reading this, don't waste your effing time on me with that forked tongued "can't we all just get along." You want honesty and civility, then you sincerely and constantly show it yourself first. Don't fool yourself into thinking you can trick me into tying my own hands behind my back while you're attacking me. Homey ain't never gonna play that.
