Elon Musk struck a deal on Monday to buy Twitter for roughly $44 billion, in a victory by the world’s richest man to take over the influential social network frequented by world leaders, celebrities and cultural trendsetters.

Twitter agreed to sell itself to Mr. Musk for $54.20 a share, a 38 percent premium over the company’s share price this month before he revealed he was the firm’s single largest shareholder. It would be the largest deal to take a company private — something Mr. Musk has said he will do with Twitter — in at least two decades, according to data compiled by Dealogic.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Mr. Musk said in a statement announcing the deal. “Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

The deal, which has been unanimously approved by Twitter’s board, is expected to close this year, subject to a vote of Twitter shareholders and certain regulatory approvals.

The blockbuster agreement caps what had seemed an improbable attempt by the famously mercurial Mr. Musk, 50, to buy the social media company — and immediately raises questions about what he will do with the platform and how his actions will affect online speech globally.

If Musk does what he claims he wants to do it will be a big improvement and good for free speech.

Convenient for people that was to flood our elections with disinformation, conspiracy theories and lies.
You don't seem too concerned when the government or the media does that.
Still a non-story being overhyped with disinformation and baseless conspiracies'. Prove me wrong!

    Oh, that's right, you can't.

    What exactly does this prove?
That the NY Post remains a rag? Not worth the paper it’s printed on?

IMO, when we get discovery in the lawsuit Hunter filed against Rudy and others, we will find out that the laptop contents were actually obtained illegally. And a fair amount was just fabricated. Probably with Russian help, FWIW.

Ah, the truth about Elon’s firing of election integrity team. I should have known it was about his massive, yet fragile man-baby ego, lol:

The "genius" has destroyed the brand so much that he recently stated that he will demand all users pay a subscription fee. I'm all for it. He not only flushed $43 billion, he now has to pay for operational losses. With all the changes, the comical part is when I click on y'all's link, there isnt any advertising. Zero. Sure hide the replies, but not having space for advertising is idiotic. He is losing money just from that.

I just want a reporter to ask Elon what his immigration status was when he dropped out of Stanford.
I see you've mistaken the Musk that was accepted into Stanford's PhD program. Oh wait, there isn't one.

Somehow, faced with Elon’s wealth, no one flags the contradictions. In 2015, Stanford’s former president John Hennessy introduced Elon with “He arrived at Stanford to pursue his PhD In Physics, but left after two days”. Elon didn’t correct him. 34/

Elon’s deposition makes it clear he was not accepted to ANY department. He dodges saying which (“I spoke to…the Chairman of Science”), then talks about when he would pay tuition. But no science PhD student at Stanford pays tuition. Elon never saw an offer letter. 35/
Or one that has a Bachelor's in any physical sciences. As he claims. And it matters only that he sells himself as a "genius" based on his background. It's all quite dodgy...

I am just trying to determine what sort of non immigrant visa he had at the time.

If he never started at Stanford than it makes it even worse, since it doesn't appear that he had any legal status in the US other than an F1 visa at that time.

His immigration status is quite dodgy. It may be in that doc I linked, but his investors setup something that helped him. I can't remember precisely as I read about all this some time ago.

edit: From the doc I linked:
Catching Elon in a lie isn’t hard. In 2013: “I had to [stay in school]..otherwise I’d get kicked out of the country.” (This is correct.) Then “since I already had my undergrad, I could..get an H1-B visa” (That’s a lie). In 1995 he had no degree, so no visa. He was illegal.

To be clear: no one cares about the degree; the immigration violation is history. What matters is Elon’s Big Lie, pretending to be what he isn’t. The academic “stolen valor” subverts judgment (“but he’s a genius!”). And it opens him to influence. It makes him a security risk. 4/
That was only his Bachelor's status. The time of his "PhD" is pretty dodgy as well.

Yea, there is pretty much no chance that Elon wasn't here illegally for at least a few months if not a few years. I don't know what company he would have been an employee of to get an H1B at that time.

I also suspect that he lied about that on his green card application. Before 911 there wasn't any good system to keep track of F1s who violated their status, and Elon seems to be a typical example of someone who stayed after violating their F1 status.
