I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Just 15 per cent of Republicans have a strong level of confidence in scientists to act in the best interest of the public, a new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center has found.

The Pew Research Center conducted its surveyby interview 10,588 adults in the US between September 13 and 18. The survey found that while Americans still generally trust and respect scientists and medical doctors, there are significant divisions in how different groups of people view the scientific community.

One of those divisions, unsurprisingly, is along partisan lines: while just 15 per cent of Republicans and Republican-leaning individuals have a strong level of confidence in scientists, 41 per cent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning individuals reported a strong level of confidence.

Interestingly, that number has dipped among both Republican and Democratic voters since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In April of 2020, 27 per cent of Republicans and 52 per cent of Democrats reported having a strong level of confidence in scientists to act in the public’s best interest.

The last two-plus years have been marked by an unusual level of scrutiny of public health officials as the Republican politicians and the American public increasingly chafed against measures taken to attempt to limit the spread of Covid……

Another effect of the overdramatic lockdown decisions by our leaders. What is funny, is people are acting like this is a surprise. There were plenty of people (who were not kicked off social media platforms) that were telling us this back in March of 2020.

But when they are laying up in the hospital in pain or dying, they love them some science..
you won't find an atheist in a foxhole either.

Same premise. I have a feeling the libs don't like religion or the catholic church because of those that run it and the recent track record. For example, pedophile priests, the clergy that puts their individualism and ideology in front of their obligations and especially those that put personal wealth in front of their obligations. The 'science' has just become the term for those professionals you agree with and are on the TV.

Michael Weinstein begs to differ. This is incredibly insulting to the nonbelievers that join our military and proudly serve their country.

The surprise is that there's almost no difference between states that continued distance learning vs those who sent kids and teachers back in the buildings. The only thing hurrying back to in-person classes accomplished was putting more people at risk.

That is what you got out of that? LOL. But ok, I guess someone might be soft enough to be insulted by that. Good for them, new victim points.

    at risk from what?

Victim points? All I am saying is that there are a large number of nonbelievers (you know, agnostics and atheists) in the US military. The implication that they all turn to god when things are dire is an insult to them. Then again, I don't expect any different from someone who supports a draft-dodging president that insults POWs and Gold Star families.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. I just think it is silly that anyone would get upset by a saying like that. I also have a sneaky suspension most atheists don't get offended by the saying. Those that do or feign getting insulted by a saying probably are not atheist or agnostics but are driven by a sociall ideology.

Or... maybe nobody gives a shirt what you think. You're faced with a chance to be inclusive of the nonbelieving members of the US armed forces, and your response is to claim they don't even care. Common decency is super easy to give and you seem to reject it at every turn.

I just read the other day that CA, which had a lot of remote learning, and FL, which had almost no remote learning, actually are showing the same test scores.

In other words, it didn’t seem to matter whether the schools had remote learning or stayed in session.

It’s almost like the stress and anxiety of a once-in-a-hundred-year pandemic were the reasons for the dip in scores. 🤷‍♀️

Taurus beat me to it, lol

This was a conspiracy theory according to the misinformation experts.

It still is a conspiracy theory.

I made it about half way through that mess. I didn't see anything there I would regard as being anything like evidence.

What I saw was an extended appeal to connected dots.

Here's a nice connecting dots, especially if you've got some glitter to sprinkle on the air behind the flying unicorn's rear.

SFL - genetic studies of the virus have pointed to a natural origin for the SARS virus in question. That’s far more definitive than this sort of speculation. The lab leak theory has been discredited.
